Cole has a friend spending the night tonight which means that I have a (more or less) free evening. No kiddies to watch. I can put an any type of movie (HORROR!) that I want to and not worry that it'll give the kids nightmares. I can stay up late late late ... wait, I do that one anyway. Oh, Hailey's not here either. Nice.

Speaking of watching things ... I finally sat down and watched the Doctor Who specials that aired this season. Holy smokes! I loved them! I was resisting watching simply because I didn't want to see David Tennant take his final bow as the Doctor, but they were all so good and well worth it. They gave him a great farewell storyline. It still makes me sad to think that he's done as the Doctor, but I guess I'll get over it.

Ten is my favorite! All the way, babies!

Okay. All the other things I had to talk about have fled in the wake of David Tennant.
Later.

I'm having a weird morning already. I'm completely unmotivated to get things done ... well, that's not entirely true. I'm unmotivated to get the stuff done that needs to get done around the house. The other stuff, the stuff that's fun-ish and wastes my time ... that's already done for the day. Go figure. I did manage to get a load of laundry in the wash, but everything else is just falling by the wayside. Clean the bathroom/vacuum/etc ... no, thanks.

Whatever. I'm sure my life or the house or anything else won't fall apart if I don't jump on all that stuff right this minute.

I think my sisters and I are going to go Christmas shopping tomorrow. Speaking of shopping, Amazon has all the seasons of Doctor Who on sale for half off today only. That knocks the price down to a little over $30. Umm ... I'm so tempted. I know I shouldn't spend the money, but $30 vs. $60 ... that's a big difference. I'm only missing season 3 and 4. That's a buy one get one free deal. Do you see my dilemma? Arrgh!

I'm cold. It's possibly time for me to shut my window for the cold season. Is it ridiculous to wrap yourself in blankets while the window's open? Part of me likes the crispness and part of me doesn't like how chilled my fingers get. I'm a mass of contradictions right now. A mass.

Randomly, Supernatural was preempted last night because of the 49ers game. They pushed Vampire Diaries to 9 and SPN to Saturday at 8. Weird. Thank goodness for downloads.

You know, I have nothing else to say. That doesn't happen too often. Also, my typing blows this morning. You'd think the keyboard spontaneously rearranged itself last night. But no. It's just me.
Later.

I've got some meme-age.
Tagged by [livejournal.com profile] neversince. Kinda. I mean, I asked her to. And she did it. What?

meme meme meme )

Cole's spending the night with his dad and yet I still have a kid hanging out in my room. Hailey decided that she wants to sleep with me tonight. Umm. Okay. Old episodes of Scooby Doo (have I mentioned that I've seen these about a million times because I have them on DVD?) are playing behind me and she's conked out on my bed. Good times, people. Good times.

As of today I have a total of 21 reviews up at [livejournal.com profile] blabapalooza this month. That's a ridiculous amount. I'm going to aim for 30 in 30 days next month. Do you think I can do it? I do. I just have to make an effort to watch a reviewable movie a day. This is on top of getting my new freelance writing career going strong. Totally do-able.

I'm off to watch something that's (possibly) not animated. Maybe not, though.
Later!

Here are the icons that [livejournal.com profile] townbros chose for me when I was breaking out of my shell and commenting on his icon post. :) I'd go the whole nine yards and tell you to comment and I'll choose 6 of your icons to tell me about, but I know that I'll never follow through with that and everyone will be waiting for their icons and then we'll all be sad. So. Here are my icons.

1.
My default icon. I found it while browsing through icons made by [livejournal.com profile] windsong_icons and fell in love with that little smudge of red in the center. Somehow this icon works with any layout I pick.

2.
Ha! Ten saying "barbeque". Does this really need an explanation? Yes? Well, I use it whenever there's something so random that only the word "barbeque" can help explain it. Ten's my secret TV boyfriend and he's incredibly random himself so this somehow makes perfect sense. Made by [livejournal.com profile] itwontbecalm.

3.
Another one by [livejournal.com profile] windsong_icons, this one features Gwen from Torchwood. All I can say is that some days are so bad that you just have to whimper your way through them. You know what I mean. Gwen reminds me of Zooey Deschanel with her coloring and haircut. That doesn't have much to do with why I chose this icon, but it's information you can file away for later.

4.
Ooh! An icon by [livejournal.com profile] neversince! Sarah from The Sarah Connor Chronicles is tough, dedicated and beautiful. She holds the future of the human race in her hands. How can you not respect that? I love the coloring in this one.

5.
Another one by [livejournal.com profile] neversince! This one features the Metallicar and it totally captures the fandom obsession that can grab hold of me when I get involved with those Winchester boys. Supernatural! Woot!

6.
This icon was made by [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis and it is just so fun! Feet! In the grass!

Word! Cole and I are watching National Treasure. Fun.
[livejournal.com profile] jenahville stopped by for a few hours today. We sat and talked and walked around the complex. I got to show off my pretty, pretty house which I still haven't taken pictures of.

You know what? I'm getting tired. How sad is that. It's not even 8 yet.

Oh, thank all major and minor deities! Today was so looonnng. Painfully so. I don't know why the past week has dragged so, but it has. *sigh* At least I have tomorrow off.

I have some random things to talk about ...
a. Cole and Hailey are driving me crazy lately with the constant fighting. Yikes! Enough already. On top of the fighting, Hailey decided that she wanted her mom to drive her to daycare about 15 minutes after H had left for work. Umm ... that's not happening. So I had to listen to a morning of whining from the little darling.

b. Wonderfalls is a very cute and sweet show. I always kinda had this belief that I'd really, really like it and that's why I kept putting off watching it. I didn't need a new show to watch. Yet ... here I am. With one episode left.

c. I've been reading Doctor Who porn lately. What? There's nothing wrong with that. It's Ten/Rose. Nothing.Wrong.With.That. I'm even feeling a little fanfic brewing upstairs. *steeples fingers* Excellent.

d. Book #78 - Dragonsinger by Anne McCaffrey - 2nd in the Harper Hall trilogy. Anne McCaffrey writes so beautifully. All her characters are so real. So alive. I haven't been sucked into a series of books this deeply for a while. At least since last year. Maybe earlier this year. Whatever.

e. I think I'm going to buy a new computer desk tomorrow. And maybe a new computer chair or three. Don't ask.

I'm done now.
soulswallo: (Calvin-Crap! I'm caught in a spider web!)
Tuesday, July 15th, 2008 08:37 pm
Get this, I came home from work today and Cole was holed up in the bedroom with one of his friends playing on the X-Box. Cool. Then I notice that there are a TON of candy wrappers littering the room. Not to mention the sticky lollipop sticks that WERE STUCK TO THE FLOOR! OMG! I went a little crazy, made the kids pick up all the garbage and kicked them all outside and away from me.

I then settled in to watch another episode of season 3 Doctor Who. Good times, people. Good times.

That said, I'm a little worried by the way Cole's been eating lately. He's been pigging out. He doesn't look like he's growing (although that can be hard to tell) but he's eating, eating, eating. I think I'm going to have to stop buying snacks and stick to fruit, veggies and other healthy foods. *sigh* I probably should have done that ages ago, but ... live and learn.

I have a meeting tomorrow at 8:30. All I can say is that at least it's not a wickedly early 7:30 meeting like my old district liked to pull on us. 8:30 is much more do-able.

I think I'm done now.

Later.

Holy smokes! I am sooooo tired. This is what happens when I don't get my daily nap in. I miss my vacation.

Randomly, I'm up to mid-season 3 of Doctor Who. That Martha Jones. She's a hoot.

I'm done now.

Oh, look. I read some books...

Book #68 - Grand Passion by Jayne Ann Krentz - This book is total summer reading. It's light. It's a re-read. I remembered how the mystery played out but it's well-written enough that I read it through anyway. So, there you go.

-and-

Book #69 - Hidden Talent by Jayne Ann Krentz - This is another summer read. As it turned out, I didn't remember the specifics of this mystery. In fact, I didn't remember much at all outside of the main characters. Still, it was enjoyable.

FYI, I finished the first one last night. It's not like I sat around all day and did nothing but read. I did some other stuff. I think. I'm pretty sure I took a nap. I totally watched some Doctor Who. In fact, I'm still watching it. Word!

What? I'm completely committed to enjoying my last day of vacation. I'm putting my all into it.

I very possibly will be back later.
Out!

OMG! Nobody have a heart attack! I opened up Photoshop and made wallpapers. I know! I can't believe it either.

Due to my recent obsession with Doctor Who (and Torchwood, but that's another story) these are of my beloved Ten. Yep. Ten! Yay!

*deep breath*

Here goes!

spoilers for Doctor Who season 4 season finale )
soulswallo: (Birthday cupcakes)
Sunday, July 6th, 2008 09:12 pm
It's my baby's birthday today! Happy Birthday, Cole! He's officially 9 now! Yikes!

He had a good birthday. My mom and I went out and got some balloons blown up and then we trekked over to Chuck E. Cheese's where the kids played games and the adults ate pizza. It was very unstressful. There was a pinata afterwards at his dad's house (we have a pinata every year. Thank the maker that there were no tears this year!) and opened presents. FUN!

One of the boys came back to our house after and Cole and he played for a couple of hours. This gave me a chance to finish my book. :)

Book #61 - The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie - I must admit that the reveal at the end got me. I'd had an inkling at one point, but I dismissed it as being wrong, wrong, wrong. Yet, Agatha Christie pulled it off. She's awesome.

By the by, Cole and I watched the season finale of Doctor Who last night and spoilers for Journey's End )

I also finally watched the season finale for the 3rd season of DW. I can't remember why I didn't watch it last year. But I didn't. It was good. Not was good as this season, but acceptable.

Alright. I'm done.

This post is totally dedicated to my darling [livejournal.com profile] oddmonster because not only will she be able to completely relate to what I'm about to write, she'll also do a reflexive fist pump upon reading it. *nods*

I bought new books at the book sale at my grandma's library today. $13 worth of books. The killer find was a set of 8 Agatha Christie books for $10. Hardcover. In perfect condition.
They consist of (in no particular order):
The Mysterious Affair at Styles
Five Little Pigs
Cat Among the Pigeons
The Hollow
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd
The A.B.C. Murders
The Body in the Library
The Moving Finger

I unwittingly picked up The Mysterious Affair at Styles first and according to the synopsis it's the first Hercule Poirot novel. Is that correct? Is there any particular order I should read them in or are they fairly self-contained? No, I've never read Christie before, but I'm finding this first book to be very engaging.

So, Odd, it's your solemn duty to inform me of how I should proceed. Do it!

In other news, after reading through some of my old fic (handily housed at [livejournal.com profile] bay12_fic now), I have a hankering to write. I want to write Torchwood and Doctor Who and SGA and anything I can wrap my brain around. Too bad I just got sucked into these Agatha Christie books. Now I doubt I'll find the time to do anything but read and catch up on all the shows I've missed lately. Woe.

I think I also forgot to mention that my mom drove past the house the other day and she's reported that the scaffolding is off everywhere but the backside (HA! Backside!) and the house has been painted a lovely shade of mocha. I want to move so badly it hurts. 2 months!

And finally, I've watched through episode 10 of season 1 of Torchwood.
Things I've learned thus far:
TORCHWOOD is an anagram of DOCTOR WHO.
Apparently everyone in Cardiff is bisexual. Also, being of an alien species does not mean that you won't be having sex with one of the regulars.

Important stuff. Important stuff.

I have a wedding to go to tomorrow and a very pretty dress to wear to it. Yay!

I'm done.

When she was visiting last month, my sister mentioned that I should watch Torchwood. I finished dl-ing the eps yesterday and I've watched the first 3 of season 1. Wow. I like it. It's not quite as captivating as Doctor Who but I have a serious crush on David Tennant so that explains that. Anyway. I'm way having fun watching Torchwood and I'm looking forward to a vacation marathon! Word.

Did I mention that I have one more day of work before vacation? True story.

I'm done.

Book #59 - Crystal Singer by Anne McCaffrey - Wow! I'd forgotten how easily I can get lost in her books. Something about them drags me in and holds me under. In a good way. Obviously this is a re-read. It's all about crystal and the brave peeps who learn to harvest it from a dangerous planet. Honestly, I think it's the way Anne McCaffrey weaves all these little elements of her stories together that makes reading them so fascinating. Word.

I'm very sleepy. I'm not even tempted to put in an episode of Who. What does that tell you?

Sleeeeeeepy.

Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] heather13!
May you have many birthday wishes that come true!

I have some random Doctor Who speculation ... There's too much thought here! )

So there you have it.

I'm fairly certain that this is my new sofa, love seat and chair. I think we ordered a micro-fiber material, but the basic lines are the same. Yay!

Okay. I'm done. Cole and I have to finish up our re-watch of the newest ep of DW. Word!
soulswallo: (SW Lego-Going for a ride!)
Sunday, June 29th, 2008 08:46 pm
Here's the low-down ... I went to Target this morning and did a good job watching what I bought. I went to Trader Joe's after and also did a good job watching the money out-take. I did some laundry because I don't like to wear stinky clothes or sleep on stinky sheets. I hauled Cole off to a retirement bbq for one of the ladies at work where he had fun and I watched him have fun. I went with my mom to the big-ass Macy's at Valley fair and bought a couch set (sofa bed, love seat and matching chair) for the new house. I watched a season 3 episode of Doctor Who. I watched my eBay auctions end and tried mightily to get some new auctions up. Ultimately I failed at the new auctions and just ended up relisting the ones that didn't sell.

*sigh*

I'm tired now. I missed my nap with all that stuff going on. Actually, I probably could have squeezed a nap in there somewhere but Cole and I had to watch the newest Doctor Who because we're both a wee bit obsessed with the Who at the moment. And I obviously couldn't sleep through the new one because IT'S NEW! It all makes sense to someone.

4 days of work and then vacation. This week is going to feel extremely long, isn't it?
soulswallo: (DW-Rose-Bad wolf)

OMG! Somebody ask me what I've been doing this evening! I've been watching my closing eBay auctions like a freaking HAWK! I need to get a bit of a life. In my defense, I also managed to go out with my mom and g-ma and buy a new washer and dryer and find a couch that I really, really liked (although we haven't bought that yet). So, there you go. I'm not as pathetic and anti-social as I originally thought.

Now I'm off to the highlight of my evening ... watching the newest ep of Doctor Who. I must know how things turn out!

Later!

The official diagnosis from [livejournal.com profile] iron_knife is that I either have hayfever or nymphomania. Hmm. I'm leaning toward hayfever, but one never knows.

In my ongoing Doctor Who marathon Cole has decided that he wanted to watch The Christmas Invasion which was the Christmas special for season 2. This is despite the fact that we're only halfway through season 1. This leads to some confusion for the boy. Plus, he doesn't remember the whole "Bad Wolf" thing and whenever I try to explain it to him ... well, it ends up being a very funny conversation. Mostly I just keep repeating "Rose is the Bad Wolf". Ha. It's funny when you hear it.

Okay. I didn't end up doing anything fun for this post, but it's better than whining so I'm going to count this as a win.

Back to Who!

Ugh. I ended up sleeping for about an hour after work and now my head feels all muzzy.

My re-watch of Doctor Who is going quite well. I've watched all of season 2 and half of season 1. I don't think I've watched the final episodes of season 2 since they aired. I couldn't handle losing Rose. But I've worked through my issues. I'm also caught up on season 4. I'm watching the newest episode as I type. Word.

I'd like to go on record as saying that I like Donna with the Doctor. She's so wonderfully snarky.

I think I'm done now.

I am way freaking tired. I could totally go to bed right now. Totally. But I'll wait for another hour or so. I hope.

I'm still working my way through season 2 of Doctor Who. This wasn't something I planned, it just seemed to happen. Suddenly the Doctor was hanging out on my TV set and I was all, "Okay. Sign me up!" And now he won't leave. Strange. It's a good thing I like the guy or we'd have issues.

My mom and I have our appointment to sign the first of the paperwork for the house on Wednesday. I'm so excited I'm going to pee my pants. But not really. We get to choose our upgrades. Actually, I don't know if we get to choose them at this appointment or the next.

I think I'm done now.
