As is my tradition on New Year's Eve, I watched a few movies. Hailey and I started off the evening with Resident Evil: Afterlife which was pretty much just like I remembered it from the theater except without the 3D. The opening scene in the rain in Tokyo is still gorgeous. The fight scenes are fun and brutal. There wasn't enough one on one zombie action. Of the fighting variety. In my opinion. After REA, we popped in the first Resident Evil. Hailey has now abandoned me and I'm watching Resident Evil: Apocalypse (which, crap, is also REA) by myself. I cleaned the bathroom through the end of RE, though so it's not like I've been mindlessly watching moves all day.

Speaking of Resident Evil, I made a webpage for the movies. It's pretty much all the same stuff that used to be on my Zombie movies page, but that page was getting HUGE and I decided to break it up into smaller, more manageable sections. If anyone has an account (or whatever you'd call it) with Squidoo, I'd love you forever if you could pop over and rate it for me. Rating is easy now, you just click on the thumbs up in the upper left hand corner and you're done. So, please?
The Resident Evil Movies

I also made a page for Southern Arcana by Moira Rogers the other day. That's a paranormal romance series about werewolves, warlocks, shapeshifters and psychics that's absolutely amazing. Same goes with that page- for anyone who can, a rating would be fabulous.

I have a bunch of year end books things to post but first I want to throw out a few numbers.

In 2010 I read 311 books according to Goodreads. By my count, which doesn't include most of the stand alone short stories that I included at GR, my total sits at 289. The goal I set for myself at the beginning of the year was to read 100 books. I think I did pretty darn well.

I wrote 165,295 words, which consisted of one full length novel, 2/3 of a second novel and snippet of a story that fizzled out. I'm working on finishing novel #2 before I dig into some serious editing for novel #1. The goal I set for myself with writing was to write more. I can say with confidence that I accomplished that.

I wrote a fucking book, guys.

Anyway. The book stuff.
Book #289 - Impetuous by Lori Foster - Enjoyable but nothing earth shattering. Although the price was very nice.
Follow Friday - Some of my book blogging resolutions for 2011.
Kelly's Favorite Books of 2010 - Pretty much exactly what it sounds like. Some new-to-me books that I found fantastic.
Year in Review - Pretty much all the stats I gave you above about the books I read, but a little more in depth.

Tomorrow: My 2011 resolutions!

Have a safe and Happy New Year!

OMG! Guys, Cole had a friend spend the night last night and the amount of food this kid eats freaking boggles me. Let me draw you a picture: I made muffins for breakfast. Cole had two. Hailey had one. My mom had one. Cole's friend had FIVE. FIVE! As in the number after FOUR! Now, these weren't huge, bakery sized muffins or anything but FIVE? And when I took them for lunch he asked for a double burger with fries. O_o I just... Cole doesn't eat like that. I wasn't expecting to come downstairs in the afternoon and find that the dozen muffins I'd baked this morning had been whittled down to 3. Cole and Hailey are more in the grazers camp. They eat a little here and a little there. For all I know, they eat the same amount as his friend but it isn't all in one gluttonous swoop. I'm still going like this --> O_o

So, yeah. I had a little talk about portions with Cole after his friend left and even Cole was kinda weirded out by the sheer amount of food he consumed. I'm just glad I don't have to feed him on a regular basis. I'd be prostituting myself for grocery money.

Anyway. Books stuff:
Book #288 - My Soul To Take (Soul Screamers #1) by Rachel Vincent - A really cool take on the Celtic banshee myth.
Short story review - Reaper (Soul Screamers) by Rachel Vincent - A quick peek into the life of one of the characters in My Soul To Take and the events that drove him to become a Reaper.
Short story review - My Soul To Lose (Soul Screamers) by Rachel Vincent - Diving into the events that led Kaylee into being hospitalized before My Soul To Take and her short stay in the mental ward.

I prepared a huge post on my favorite books for 2010 that I'll probably post later tonight. I got to take a look at the new books in established series I loved and new-to-me authors I discovered when I went crazy with my Kindle.

I also have this driving yearning to do a book-centric wrap-up post so I can smile vapidly at how many books I read this year. If I manage to get my shit together, I'll write that one up tonight as well. Or maybe I'll write it up tomorrow and read tonight. I don't know.

FYI, I did end up doing a bit of writing on my NaNo story last night. Yeah, all 235 words worth. Fear me.

Okay. I'm done.
Later.

It's been raining just enough that the ground can't dry out. I take the dogs for a walk and squelch across the grass. Which would be cool if I remembered to take off my slippers before leaving the house. As it is, I just end up with damp feet.

I got sick of Hailey and Cole fighting today and I stomped into my room (well, I didn't "stomp" exactly but I did walk with purpose) and cleaned. I straightened up my entire bookcase (the big one) dusted, filed and pulled out my NaNo story for a re-read so I could remind myself where I left off. God, I love that story. Every time I go back to reacquaint myself with it I get amazed all over again that it came out of my head. That may sound conceited but it has flow and sparkle (without the vampires) and I adore my two main characters. Hell, I adore my secondary and thirdary characters. Haha. But really, I read it and I don't remember writing half of it and I'm starting to wonder if the good parts of the writing were done by someone else. Someone much smarter and more organized than I.

Did I ever mention that I used the phrase "animalistic fucking" in it? True story. Probably one of the reasons I love it so much. Of course, as much as I do love it I'm still terrified to let anyone read it. Because, you know, what if it's only good in my head and everyone else cringes and tries to skulk away whenever I force it on them? That would not be enjoyable. For me. Probably for the person I was trying to make read it too, come to think of it.

Just let it be known that the biggest step in writing is not opening Word. Nope. That might be the first step, but it turns out you still have to do some writing to, you know, write. Weird. I'm still considering jotting down a paragraph or two tonight on that story just so I can tell myself that I wrote today.

Okay. Book stuff:
Book #287 - The Making of a Duchess (The Sons of the Revolution #1) by Shana Galen - Comical spying by a governess who has no clue what she's doing. It's a historical, guys, and I really liked it.

Okay. That is all.

Cole asked if we could watch Return of the King tonight and then he immediately fell asleep as soon as it started. I think we might have made it past the opening scenes with Smeagol/Gollum but I'm not sure.

It's raining again. I can hear it.

Book stuff:
Book #285 - Dreamfever (Fever #4) by Karen Marie Moning - This series is so unbelievably good. I'm honestly blown away by it. The only thing I can't believe is that now I have to wait until January 18th for the final installment. Boo.
Book #286 - Demon's Triad by Anna J. Evans and December Quinn - Naughtiness. With demons! Also, I won this one from Stacia Kane on Twitter by being the first person to correctly answer a trivia question about Stephen King's The Stand. I love Twitter!
Teaser Tuesday - Dreamfever, witches and growling beasties!
The Morbid Romantica Challenge - My official tracking page for this challenge. Because I need to keep track of things like this.

Since I'm participating in a bunch of reading challenges this year, I'm trying to keep books in the particular genres I'll be reading off my radar until Jan 1st. Do you know how hard this is? I want to read some of them now. But I'm not. I'm being good. Very, very good.

I also spent the day sorting my different unread books into challenge shelves on Goodreads. Holy Toledo! I read a lot of books in 2010! It kinda boggles me.

Randomly, I really, really need to clean up my bookcase. It's horrid right now. Books everywhere. All the stuff Cole and I got in our stockings spread about. Yuck. Time to straighten up.

And that is all.
Later.

Guys, I love my family (most of the time) but all this togetherness over the holidays is putting me into family overload. My Aunt and Uncle from Washington state are visiting for a few days and tonight we had dinner with them over at my sister's house. I like seeing my Aunt and Uncle, Ilove playing with my nephew while I'm at Amb's house, but I'm also ready for things to fall back into their normal routine.

One thing I keep telling myself I'm going to do is finish up my NaNo novel. I haven't written a single word on it since I hit 50K back in the middle of November and I'm feeling a lot of guilt about this. I love this story. I love my characters. I need to sit down and just finish it so I can get back to editing and tweaking and re-editing.

And in book news:
Book #284 - Faefever (Fever #3) by Karen Marie Moning - There was a lot of flailing and ALL CAPS as I wrote this review. In an entirely good way. Because this series is AMAZING!
2011 Reading Challenges (pt 3) - Vampires, Shifters, TBR and a themed monthly challenge. I'm going to be doing a lot of reading in 2011.
Roof Beam Reader's 2011 TBR Challenge - The official list of books I'll be reading for this challenge.

I also put up a new Squidoo page dedicated to the Southern Arcana series by Moira Rogers. I honestly think everybody who likes werewolves and doesn't mind steamy sex should read this series. Honestly.

And that is all.

I keep losing track of time today. I swear it was just 8:30. And now it's much, much later. But how, guys? How did this happen?

Anyway. I got up around 7 this morning to take the dogs out and when I went downstairs I was slightly shocked to find all the decorations boxed up and put away and my mom glaring balefully at the tree as she wrangled ornaments off. At 7 in the morning. She'd been up for a couple of hours putting things away. Why? I'm not so much questioning that the Christmas stuff was being put away the day after Christmas (hey, the holiday is over, it's time to go!) but rather that she got so much done so damn early in the morning. I was in awe. Still am, in fact.

After cursing and pummeling the tree out the door, the fam and I went up to Target to see if they had any good after-Christmas sales. Apparently they really didn't becasue I only bought food. Well, I also bought candy canes, but those are food-ish. Aren't they? And 2 dozen candy canes will last me 2 or 3 weeks. I hope.

Book stuff:
Book #282 - Unlacing the Innocent Miss by Margaret McPhee - Uggh. This book made me weepy. And it's a Harlequin Historical romance. How did that happen?
Book #283 - Switched (Trylle Trilogy #1) by Amanda Hocking - Trolls and changelings! Neat!
Short story review - The Brave Tale of Maddie Carver (Downside Ghosts) by Stacia Kane - A free short story that Stacia Kane offered as a Christmas present to her fans.
In My Mailbox - OMG! Epic doesn't begin to cover it. With pictures!

Well, since it's late I should probably grab the kid and force him off to bed.

Oh, [livejournal.com profile] bangaboomerang, I wanted to wish you a happy belated birthday! I'm sorry I'm late. Forgive me?

It's Christmas Eve and Cole's playing his video games while I wander aimlessly around the web looking for something to keep me awake. What? I didn't get my nap today. It was tragic.

The fam went to Amber and Phil's for dinner. We honestly didn't do much. I had a drink. We played with the baby. We ate. We came home. That's the most unexciting thing to write ever. Boring.

Anyway. One last thing before I drag Cole in here to watch a movie with me.
Book #281 - Bloodfever (Fever #2) by Karen Marie Moning - Holy Hannah! This is a good series.

And now I'm done.
Sleep well. Keep an eye out for that red-clad guy who likes to sneak into houses!

I finished wrapping gifts! I feel like I can conquer the world at the moment. It's amazing! Phenomenal! Outstanding! Take that, world! I have conquered!

I'm sure this is the lament of all adult-type people who are stuck at home while the kids are on their holiday break: The kids are driving me bonkers! For the love of angel food cake! How in the hell can they be so freaking annoying after only a few days? How? *crawls into a corner and weeps* I'm okay with them the first half of the day and then the afternoon rolls around. Things are all downhill from there. All downhill.

Anyway. I know they're just excited for Christmas and stuff. I know that once the thrill of the upcoming festivities have passed they'll settle down. The question is, will I mentally be in one piece after? Unknown.

Yeah. Book stuff:
Book #280 - Like Clockwork by Bonnie Dee - Steampunk and murder most foul.
2011 Reading Challenges (pt 2) - Some e-book fun.
Giveaway - Celebrating the Southern Arcana series by Moira Rogers - One of my favorite authors has a new book coming out at the beginning of January. I'm giving away one e-book of each of the three books in the series - Including the new one. Go. Enter. Enjoy.

So, there you have it.
Did I mention that I finished my wrapping? :)

I did not realize how late it was getting. Huh. I apparently have lost all sense of time and space. Interesting.

I did some Christmas wrapping today. Not all of it. I lost steam about halfway through. Hopefully that means that I can get it done tomorrow. Awesome.

Book stuff:
Book #278 - A Peyton Family Christmas (Southern Arcana #2.5) by Moira Rogers - A short story that bridges the gap between Crossroads and Deadlock and lets us take a peek at the first Christmas that Nick and Derek spend together.
Book #279 - Hero (Cat Star Chronicles #6) by Cheryl Brooks - Concluding the story arc and tying things up while setting up a new arc. Nice.
Waiting on Wednesday - The Mysterious Lady Law - Steampunk awesomeness!

And that pretty much concludes my day.

Holy Hannah! Tomorrow I'm going to wrap presents. I swear it. I'm tired of the box of goodies taking up a large portion of my closet floor. I'm sick of maneuvering around the box every time I need to find a pair of shoes. I'm just... ready to wrap now.

I am exceedingly tired. Sleepy. Must sleep soon.

So I'd better get this book stuff out of the way.
Book #275 - Double Enchantment (Relics of Merlin #2) by Kathryne Kennedy - Another dip into the fun hat can be found with Regency era shapeshifters.
Book #276 - The Naked Detective (Karmic Consultants #4) by Vivi Andrews - Nudity in Atlantic City. Isn't that normal?
Book #277 - Immortal Ops (Immortal Ops #1) by Mandy M. Roth - I had a hard time getting into this one. Which is a funny thing to say since I read it in a matter of hours.
Teaser Tuesday - Naked bits, werewolves tracking their prey and crazy Fae. Just another day in the life of this girl.

I'm going to go to bed now.

I did a big fat lot of nothing today. Seriously. I made a run out to the mall with Amber to help her with the rest of her Christmas shopping. I finished a book, read another and picked up an ARC for review. I actually finished the ARC but I don't want to review it until the cover is finalized. Hopefully that'll be soon, but if not I'll just have to read this delightfully naughty book again.

So, yeah. A whole lotta nothing. I have oodles of wrapping to do and absolutely no urge to do it. I have a few movies I want to watch. I should really, really get back to looking for a job or finding a writing job that makes me money. The second one is the one I'm leaning toward, in case you're wondering. Because holding down a real job makes my insides quiver in a nauseous debilitating way. Not cool.

So. Books.
Book #273 - Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble (Jolie Wilkins #1) by H.P. Mallory - Total shout out to [livejournal.com profile] malkovich03 half way down. Because I'm cool like that.
Book #274 - Club Shadowlands (Masters of the Shadowlands #1) by Cherise Sinclair - While I'll be the first to admit that I like books that explore the kinkier side of sex, especially the Dom/sub relationship, I thought this book was absolutely outstanding. Sexy and full of heart. Wonderful!

Okay. I have things to do. Like hunt down another candy cane.

Today was the Annual Holiday Party hosted by myself with the lovely [livejournal.com profile] jenah, [livejournal.com profile] kimbrchick and [livejournal.com profile] malkovich03 putting in an appearance. The power went out at my house this morning due to the torrential rain and wind that we were getting. I was a little afraid that we were going to be powerless all day, but everything righted itself and the power came on about 20 minutes before the ladies got there.

We went to lunch at a sports pub and I had the onion rings that make your taste buds sing. They are so freakishly good. I never order onion rings but I just can't resist those beauties. We drank mimosas and watched Inception afterward which was pretty cool but convoluted enough that I feel like I need to watch it again. Jenn, Kim and I also watched a few episodes of Vampire Diaries since Jenn was way behind on that.

So. Cool stuff. Plus I have some book stuff.
Book #272 - Arctic Shift (Denali Shifters #1) by Lissa Matthews - A book without conflict isn't terribly interesting.
In My Mailbox - Free books from Amazon, free books from All Romance, free books from Carina press, books I won, and books I bought. Pretty much an awesome week.

Okay. I'm off to nudge my boy off to bed.

Okay. Cole and I met up with Bff #1 and her husband to see Tron last night. I liked the movie. I'm going to say that first off. I liked it. However, I did think that it was a little too long. Maybe that was just because we saw a 10:15 showing and we didn't get out of the theater until 12:30. I was tired at that point. There were some slow talky-parts in the movie that really dragged it down. Once again, that might just have been the lateness of the evening talking. I loved the light cycle/light flyer scenes. Those were just fun. I thought the ending was LAME. If I was going to see my first sunrise, I hope it would look better than that piece of crap one there. Over all, I liked the movie. They could have edited out a good 20 minutes of it to keep me a little more engaged but I'm not complaining too much. I was also happy that I didn't get a headache watching the 3D stuff. Always a bonus.

Anyway. Book stuff.
Book #271 - Ill Wind (Weather Warden #1) by Rachel Caine - It took me a while to get into it, but I ended up enjoying it.
On My Wishlist (week 15) - Liz Maverick's Crimson City series and Gini Koch's Katherine "Kitty" Katt series.

I'm sleepy. Perhaps I will go bust out my yummy coffee so I don't conk out too early.

I'm about to drag the kiddo out to visit the BFF and go see Tron in 3D. Therefore, this is going to be a quick post.

Book #270 - Our Little Secret by Starr Ambrose - Contemporary romance with a touch of a mystery. It's fun, too!

Amb and I went out to the Gilroy Outlets to try to get some Christmas shopping done. It was raining but not really raining on us the entire time. It was, you know, misty spit. Enough were you got wet but not enough to be crazy. We had to stand in the rain to get coffee because the Starbucks down there is an outdoor kiosk and I was STARVING and had to eat immediately.

Anyway. The shopping was kinda a bust. I did get to browse at the B&N but I was good and didn't buy anything. *is proud*

Okay. I have to get ready to go.

Do any of you guys have a task that you absolutely hate doing? For me, it's cleaning the shower. I don't mind cleaning the bathroom, but the shower makes me cringe. I don't actually know the last time I cleaned it for real. Most of the time I do this half-assed job that probably doesn't actually clean it at all. The moral of this story is that I need to clean my shower. >:|

Random hair story that I forgot to tell yesterday: I dye my hair dark red. When my stylist mixes up the color it usually looks like some awesome punk neon pink COLOR! in the bowl. Well, this last time, she used a different brand or something and I swear that the mix color was Strawberry Shortcake Pink. I was having visions of my hair turning out like this:

And I don't mean just her hair. I mean the whole package. Shades of frilly pink. Can you image me with pastel pink hair? I CAN'T!

Anyway. I have book stuff to share.
Book #268 - Up On the Housetop (Kyron Pack #1) by Suzanne Rock - I love free books!
Book #269 - Angel's Master by Sandra Sookoo - I don't even know how this book went from a fun historical pirate book to a paranormal romance. I just don't get it.
Book Blogger Hop & Follow Friday - I want to write a book about demon werewolves now. Also, my mind is full of smut.

And that's it!

Oh, man. I got my hair cut and colored today and my stylist always blows it out and puts all this crap in it. It looked fine until I laid down for a nap. Now I have a huge bubble of hair clinging oddly to the top of my head. Hahaha! I'm so glad no one can see me right now.

My sisters and I are planning out our time to finish up our Christmas shopping. It looks like Amb has claimed a few hours from me on Friday and a large portion of the day on Monday. Friday night I'm meeting my BFF Megan at the movies. Cole's tagging along for that. We're seeing Tron Legacy. I saw the original in the theater although there are some people who refuse to believe me when I say that. Saturday, Heather and I are heading out to get those last few things we need to pick up together.

Hopefully I can get it done over those 3 days and not have to think about buying things any more!

Books stuff:
Book #265 - Lord of Devil Isle by Connie Mason - I get to talk about scurvy and how seamen (ha!) always have all their teeth in historical romances.
Book #266 - Sweet Disgrace by Cherrie Lynn - Blistering sex doesn't mean literal blisters. I'm just sayin'. Also, sexy demons who lust after sweet angels are kinda hot.
Book #267 - Fated (Doomsday Brethren #1.5) by Shayla Black - A short story that pulls the Doomsday arc along.

Things of note: I did not have a wardrobe fail today. In fact, I dressed completely (including ALL my underwear) and went out to do some Christmas shopping. I even wore shoes. Guys, this is like the most epic thing ever. I wore shoes and underwear AT THE SAME TIME! No, no, hell didn't freeze over. I checked.

I also managed to fire off an email to [livejournal.com profile] jenah, [livejournal.com profile] kimbrchick and [livejournal.com profile] malkovich03 about our annual holiday gathering. WHICH IS THIS SUNDAY AND I WAS SO DAMN SLOW GETTING THE EMAIL OUT THAT I FEEL LIKE A TOOL! So, uhh, guys, if you haven't checked ye olde email yet, you might want to do that. Okay? Thanks.

I have a little bit of the book stuff:
Book #264 - The Ghost Hunter by Lori Brighton - I really liked this book and yet my review is so short. I don't get it. I liked it. I promise.
I finished another book this morning but I'm not feeling the snark at the moment and the review was like reading bad fanfic. You know, stilted and wooden. So I saved it to finish tomorrow. I am all about being flexible. Or something.
Teaser Tuesday - Ghosts and Witches (a book I'm not 100% behind at this point), Magic (read 2 pages so don't yet have an opinion) and Djinn (I think I like it).

So, yeah. I've been way tired lately and I'm trying to keep myself awake just a tiny bit longer. Although I don't know why. It's not like I'm doing anything tonight that I need to stay up for. I confuse myself sometimes.

Right. So I'm off to bed.

Guys, I had a total writer-moment earlier today. No, I didn't finish my novel. That would be a little too writerly for me at the moment. No, instead I found myself out walking my dogs, ambling along one of the main-ish roads near my house when I looked down and realized that I was wearing a pair of fire engine red sweats and my trusty slippers. *face palm* I looked FABULOUS! Like, crazy-cakes fabulous! I swear that I usually get dressed in real clothes when I go outside. But today it just slipped my mind. I was doing laundry and I was wearing these outstanding sweats and I forgot about them.

So to all you commuters at 9 this morning who were driving by my house... I'm so sorry. I won't wear those sweats tomorrow. I promise.

And in other news, I really need to finish novel #2 so that I can go back to editing novel #1. Really.

Book stuff:
Book #263 - Heart of the Wolf (Heart of the Wolf #1) by Terry Spear - I feel bad about this review because I didn't like the book and the author still commented on the post thanking me for pointing something out. *grimace* I did try to be diplomatic about not liking it and I still told people that they should give it a try since my tastes weren't everyone else's... but yikes!
2011 Reading Challenges - So far I've only signed up for 3 challenges. But there might be more. *steeples fingers diabolically* There might be more.

I am so freaking tired right now. I don't feel like I'm going to face plant into my desk anymore, and trust me when I say that was a possibility earlier, but I can't imagine that I'm going to be staying up too much longer.

Cole had his final football games today. He ran in a touchdown, which was cool. I'm a little ashamed to admit that I don't mind having my Sundays free again. Not that it was all that taxing, but it's just going to be nice to have a few free weeks with all the crazy holiday stuff coming up.

Which reminds me that I need to email the ladies about our annual holiday party. I should really get on that.

Onward.

Book stuff:
Book #262 - Undertow (Building Sanctuary #2) by Moira Rogers - I love werewolves. I love couples caught in storms. I love alpha males. Yep, this book pretty much pushed all my buttons.

I've been sitting here for a few minutes trying to figure out what fun and exciting things I did today and I'm coming up with nothing. No.thing. How sad.

Now, I might not have done anything today, but I did watch The Descent 2 last night and I really, really liked it. It had the same creepy, startling moments as the first one and the bad guys are just so disturbing. Yikes! I liked how we got to find all the bodies of the girls who died in the 1st one as the rescue team wound their way through the caves. That was just cool and disgusting. I do think the 1st had a more dynamic group of characters but this one totally lived up to my expectations.

I also started watching Dead Snow afterward. I think it's a German movie about zombies. Possibly they're nazi zombies. I don't know. I didn't watch enough of it to find out. After the scene where the 4 guys were driving up the snowy mountain to find the rustic ski cabin they were going to be staying in with their lady friends and one of the guys asks other others if they think his lady friend will let him into her number 2 hole, I kinda lost the thread of the story. Yes, he really asked it that way. In German. I had to read it on the subtitles. It was ... awesomely bad.

Anyway. Books.
Book #260 - A Certain Wolfish Charm (Westfield Brothers #1) by Lydia Dare - An intriguing glimpse into the life and love of a Regency Werewolf. Seriously. Actually, it was super good and I'm kinda eyeballing the others in the series.
Book #261 - Enchanting the Lady (Relics of Merlin #1) by Kathryne Kennedy - Continuing my theme of historical novels with a shapeshifting bent. This one was even better than the last!

On My Wishlist (week 14) - The Fever series, the Demonica series and the Alien Huntress series. Good times, guys. Good times.

I think I want some coffee. Because it's never too late for coffee.
Later.
