I don't even want to talk about how many free Kindle books I downloaded today. Of course Amazon is glutting the free Kindle book market the month I'm trying to tame that TBR pile. And of course I can't pass up some of them. On the plus side, I only picked up 11 books out of 200 or so.

For those that are interested:
Books 1-50
Books 51-100
Books 101-150
Books 151-200

That's a crazy lot of books. Good thing not all of them appealed to me.

Anyway onto the books that I've actually read.
Book #185 - Angel Burn (Angel Trilogy #1) by LA Weatherly - An interesting take on angels. They're not all fluffy and sweet but rather predatory and wicked. I liked it.
Book #186 - Magyk (Septimus Heap #1) by Angie Sage - Once I got past the first quarter of the book I really liked it.

Okay. I have a Zombie Apocalypse to start. Later.

I have a story to tell ... Yes, it is about books, but more to the point it's about the weird customer service I've been getting from Amazon lately.

Let's start with this: I actually think Amazon does a great job of getting their shipments out in a timely manner. I have Amazon Prime so I get free 2-day shipping in pretty much everything. I love 2-day shipping. I order it today and it shows up on Wednesday. That's fast enough for me that I don't have the urge to go to an actual bookstore and indulge in some instant gratification.

So, when I say that the delivery service that Amazon uses in my neck of the woods has been sucking since they switched over from Fed-Ex or UPS or whatever it was before, you gotta feel me here. OnTrac. OnTrac sucks ass. I kid you not, last week, they called us at 8 at night to get directions to our house and then informed me that they wouldn't be able to deliver it that day. Umm... then why the fuck did you call? To add a little more insult to that, the box didn't actually arrive until almost 7 the next evening.

Did you guys read the part about how I pay for Amazon Prime specifically so I can get my orders within 2 days? Yeah. Waiting an extra day for my order is not making me happy.

I do go on a bit here )

Okay. I've worked through my anger issues. I'm cool. I got 2 free books out of it.

I also read a book or two today to blow off steam:
Book #27 - Night Betrayed (Envy Chronicles #4) by Joss Ware - I think I would have enjoyed this more if I had read the first 3 books in the series.
Book #28 - Dead, Undead, or Somewhere in Between (Rhiannon's Law #1) by J.A. Saare - Fucking hell, this book was good. Like, insanely good. Like, WHY AREN'T YOU GUYS READING THIS?!? good. Also, it's .99 right now for the Kindle. I'll even put the damn link here so can click right on over to it: Dead, Undead, or Somewhere in Between. Go forth and read it, babies. And then thank me later.

I went on and on here. Sorry about that.
I'll go now.
Later.

You know, one of the reasons I have a tendency to keep my rants on the inside is that usually after I've ranted and vented and got everything out something happens that throws me for a loop. So, yesterday I ranted about the sucktastic delivery service Amazon uses sometimes. I wasn't happy. And then. And then OnTrac trundled up at 9:30 last night and delivered my books.

*sigh*

I'm still not happy about it exactly, because I think that's way too late for deliveries. And although it holds true to what Amazon was offering as an incentive (same day new-release delivery), I still feel like I was somehow cheated. I don't think I should have to wait until 9:30 at night to receive something. Seriously, guys, I know I joke about living in the country, but it's not that far in the country. Hell, I live right off a major freeway. I'm not even up in the winding hills or anything.

I don't know. I got my books. I should be happy, but ultimately I'm not. I feel like I wasted a day waiting. And I don't really DO anything all day long so that shouldn't be a big deal. But it's how I feel and I'm not going to say that it's not a big deal because it was. Maybe in the grand scheme of things, not getting my books early in the day isn't important, but that doesn't make my feelings on it any less ... relevant? significant? I don't know. I just know that I'm not pleased.

Anyway. I'm still gearing up for NaNo. I'm ANXIOUS to get to writing. It's so hard to wait. I just want to be able to let this story unspool and tell itself.

And in bookish news:
Book #228 - Ghost Town (The Morganville Vampires #9) by Rachel Caine - I pretty much loved this book. It was fun and fast paced and I love the characters.

30 days of books... Day 45 - Cowboys? Really? Interesting.
Waiting on Wednesday - Counterfeit Magic - I missed the first novella Kelley Armstrong put out this year. I refused to miss out on this one.

Alright. I've said it all.

I officially hate the delivery service Amazon has been using lately. I liked UPS. UPS delivered my books to my house on the day they said they would. This OnTrac? SUCKS. A week ago, a mere week ago, I complained about a box being delivered either to the wrong house or a day later than the tracking said it was. I'm still leaning toward the wrong house because I can't imagine a delivery service making deliveries before 5:30 in the morning.

Now, I don't blame Amazon for this. Although I do blame them for continuing to use OnTrac's sucktastic service. But whatever. Amazon sent the books out. OnTrac fucked up the delivery.

So, I ordered the 9th Morganville Vampires book by Rachel Caine. It came out today. One of the perks that Amazon offers is that they'll do release day delivery for books. Okay. I'm in. Obviously. However, that means that I expect my FUCKING BOOK TO BE DELIVERED ON THE DAY IT'S RELEASED! Not tomorrow. Today. If I wanted it tomorrow, I could go to the bookstore. If I had known that I wasn't going to get it today, I could have gone to the bookstore. But I didn't. Now give me my fucking book before I lose what little patience I'm hanging onto and go all HULKSMASH on your website.

No, I'm not happy about this. I wanted the book. I made sure I wasn't reading anything that couldn't be interrupted. I planned for this. Which is both sad and pathetic and I don't care because you said I'd have my book and I still don't.

Fuck you, OnTrac. I hope you get some bizarre genital disease that slowly eats you away from the inside.

Okay. My rant is done. I think.

I have some book stuff to talk about.
30 days of books... Day 44 - I shouldn't do these while I'm angry. Seriously.
Teaser Tuesday - Those are fucking awesome teasers. I dare you to tell me otherwise. Really.

I'm going to take my anger and channel it into a strongly worded email to Amazon now.

Now, don't quote me on this but I think the hot weather might have passed. We had some major fog this morning. I couldn't see across the street for the bulk of the morning. I've had to wear pants for the past few days. I love it.

Speaking of this morning, I went to take the dogs for their morning walk at 5:30 and I had an Amazon box sitting on the doorstep. Now, I highly doubt that the delivery guys were out and about at 5:30 in the morning and I know the box wasn't there when I took the dogs out at 7:30 last night ... so was it delivered after 8 or was it delivered to the wrong house and one of my neighbors dropped it off? That is the eternal question.

Random Blogger story: My book review blog is set up on Blogger and there was a notice on the site that image uploading would be disabled for 2 hours starting at 5 PM today. I, quite naturally, freak out about this and write up all of today's posts in draft because, holy shit!, what if I'm ready to prepare them between 5 and 7 and I can't?!?!

Yeah, so all my posts were composed before 10 this morning. They weren't all posted at once, but they were ready to go.

So, books.
Book #222 - Tarnished Knight: Grimm's Circle #4 by Shiloh Walker - This was the book I received from the author yesterday. I stayed up until 12:30 last night to finish it but I was way too tired to actually write up a coherent review afterward. So I did it this morning. I loved the book, sent the review to the author and I'm feeling pretty good about myself.
Book #223 - Her Fallen Angel (Her Angel #2) by Felicity Heaton - I actually finished this book a day or two ago but I wanted to post a teaser quote from it for Teaser Tuesday so I held off on reviewing it. Angels. Who are fallen. Nice.

30 days of books... Day 38 - High fantasy! Boo-yah!

Okay. I'm determined to get through this round of editing before NaNo starts. De.Ter.Mined. Watch me.
And on that note, I'm going to go.

Today was a do-nothing day. I meant to do things. I really did, but somehow I just sat around and read and slept and ... slept. I stayed up way too late last night and for some reason the 3 hours of sleep I ended up with was absolutely not cutting it.

Oh, wait. I did dry hump the bargain books list at Amazon. Ultimately it wasn't as satisfying as the time I spend with the Kindle books at Amazon but that's only because the Kindle books download immediately. I actually have to wait for the bargain books to ship to me. Hence the dry humping.

Okay. Book stuff.
Book #219 - The Ghost Shrink, The Accidental Gigolo & The Poltergeist Accountant (Karmic Consultant #1) by Vivi Andrews - That is a damn long title for a book. I'm just saying. It's also a good book. I'm just saying.
Book #220 - Force My Hand by Em Brown - Not great by any means but still fairly interesting. I guess.

30 days of books... Day 36 - I ramble about the Poltergeist movies for some reason. It's weird.

I'm pretty sure Cole hasn't finished his homework. The kid sure does like to draw it out.

I did some major Halloween decorating today. Major. Spiderwebs. Tombstones. Skulls. Bones. Halloween colored lights. I was going to take a picture of it but then it started almost-raining and I decided to go inside. What? Almost-raining. Like, it wanted to rain and I could feel a light mist but there were no actual drops. Almost-raining. I'm sure it's in the dictionary or something. Maybe it's only the dictionary in my head. The one that tells me fifty different ways to describe man parts while writing.

Okay, I need to put all the bookish things down before I forget. Because that would be tragic. TRAGIC!
Short story - Steal Me by Tina Folsom - It's a short story. There wasn't a whole lot of room for character development, people.
Book #196 - Seventh Circle (Vampires Realm) by Felicity Heaton - I liked it. Not as much as the other book I read recently by this author, but it was fun and sexy. Score!
Book #197 - Sisters Red (Sisters Red #1) by Jackson Pearce - Okay. Jackson Pearce is doing a 30 Days of Vlogging challenge and her vlogs crack me up so bad that I had to go out and buy her book. Had.To.

Teaser Tuesday - Sisters Red, Unholy Ghosts (love, love, love this book!) and Radiance.
30 days of books... Day 23 - More free Kindle books! I'm like a ninja- sneaking and finding those free books left and right!

Speaking of which, Standoff: Cascadia Wolves Book 5 by Lauren Dane is a free ebook through Borders for a limited time. FREE BOOKS! Oh, and here's a few more free books from Borders.

Look at me! Promoting literacy like a fiend. Read! Read like the wind! Read like a mad thing! Just read! Oh, and visit my book review site and leave me comments! I love comments.

See, I told you I had a lot of book stuff I had to get out before I forgot.
Pictures of the awesome Halloween decorating tomorrow. I promise. Mostly.

Success! Of a sort. I finished my novel. I did. However, I'm supremely unhappy with a few things in the final couple of pages. The problem is that I can't think of another way to write it. So, I'm going to put it aside for a few days and come back to it on Monday and hopefully have a bit of inspiration when I re-read the last few chapters.

That said:

Like I said, I pretty much hate the ending. It feels rushed and yet I can't figure out how to rewrite it. Yet.

Anyway, did you read that part where I finished writing my first novel? True story. It took longer than I thought it would and this is only for the first draft. *sigh* I need to have better writing discipline. I will have better discipline.

Btw, if you're not following me on Twitter, you've been missing out on some great fashion photos.
Example:
I take pictures of my legs/feet A LOT. It's ridiculous.

Bookish stuff:
30 days of books... Day 5
I've been trolling Amazon for the last hour or so to get the images and stuff together for tomorrow's wishlist post. Books ...Mmm.
Randomly, I won some ebooks in a contest and I know I won them because it was posted on the site and it says I'll be getting the email shortly, but I haven't heard from them yet. *whining* I want my books.

Okay. I've said enough.

I have one more day to finish my epic werewolf novel before I lose the chance to treat myself to a Kindle book. ONE DAY! I've written a few hundred words today but I refuse to post my word count until tomorrow. I refuse.

Anyway. Bookish stuff that is not the one I'm attempting to write:
30 days of books... day 4

And...
Book #182 - Compromising Positions by Jenna Bayley-Burke
Book #183 - Her Dark Angel (Her Angel #1) by Felicity Heaton

As a random tidbit, while browsing through Amazon last night I was checking out the top free Kindle books (which I do often since I had to stop actually PAYING for books) and there were a ton of new books on there. Books that looked good. I went on a downloading spree. I think I nabbed 11 new books. Sweet! Here ... Free stuff is good. You have to wade through some of the later pages, but FREE BOOKS!

Okay. I'm off to finish that damn novel. Then I get to take a small break and read The Hunger Games series. Then I get to go back to the novel and make it better. Then I die slowly when I send it out to be looked over by a trusted friend. Then I do it all again.

Umm, when did it get to be night? Seriously. How did that happen? Besides the rotation of the earth and all that. Gosh, I feel like I've had a spectacularly uneventful day. I didn't write, although I did open up Word. That must count for something. I played around on my book review site, but I really didn't do much. Interesting.

Anyway.
Book #179 - City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments #2) by Cassandra Clare.

I'm 200 and some pages into book 3. Which pretty much sums up how I wasted my day. Not that reading is ever a waste, but ... oh, forget I said that. I spent my day at Hailey's soccer game and reading. There you have it.

Oh, I also put up a post for books on my wishlist. This is the secret Kindle wishlist that I won't let anyone see because (a) you can't gift Kindle books so what's the point in making it public and (b) some of those books are so trashy they make me blush. This way my embarrassment doesn't go beyond what I choose to share.

On My Wishlist (week 1)
Now with snarky commentary about why I'd read such books. Ha! Yes, I do read terribly smutty FILTH! Thank you for noticing.

I must go read now.

Happy writing day! I hit my word goal and I told myself that if I did it in a timely manner I could buy myself a few books in the $2 range for my Kindle. Guess who's feeling good tonight? And guess who's going to be heading over to Amazon when she's done here? Yes, it is me! How did you know?!?!

So.

Today: I pushed the story forward a few days, which puts us ever closer to our climactic end scene. I had a fun little back-and-forth between two minor characters that I loved. If I could find a way to get those two together more often, I totally would. The spy with the bad guys is getting antsy to finish his job and get home, but he knows he has one more thing to do before he can get out of there.

Next up: I have to catch us up with our resident psycho and the girl he's attempting to kidnap. Maybe he'll have already nabbed her, maybe it'll be about to happen. It's hard to tell with him. Plus, an impromptu shopping trip is about to going horribly wrong and the hero's going to go batshit crazy over it.

Amazon, here I come!

This is going to be one of those nothing posts that people look at years later and go "Why? Why did you even bother firing up the computer if all you're going to write about is nothing?" The upside of this scenario is that people are looking at my journal years in the future and it's making them ask the tough questions. The downside? It's still a journal about nothing.

Yeah. Anyway. I finished the book that I've been belly-crawling over for the past few days.
Book #167 - Forsaken by Shadow by Kait Nolan - I ended up liking it, but I had a hard time connecting to the characters which is probably why it took me FOREVER to get through. Maybe it was the lack of explanation going in as to what paranormal/supernatural powers they had because once we hit the part where the other paranormals were teaming up with our mains and kicking ass, I found myself becoming much more interested. Cade has been living the last ten years of his life with a big fat hole in his memories. In fact, he remembers nothing prior to waking up in a hotel room with burned hands. For the past ten years, Embry believes the man she loved is dead and it isn't until her father is kidnapped and she has to mount a rescue mission that she finds out the truth. Finding him, giving him back his memories and convincing him to infiltrate a secure military base are just the beginning of her problems. Like I said, I ended up liking it, I just had a hard time plodding through the first half.

I'm putting myself on a strict "no new Kindle books that I have to pay for" regime for the next week. I seriously went a little out of control there for a while. Yeah. 100 books later. Oops. However, my one saving grave here is that Amazon does offer quite a few free reads that change often. Therefore I won't be totally hurting for new shapeshifting material. Awesome!

I'm off to do things that require very little brainpower. Or possibly to write, which requires large amounts of brainpower and a small, hand cranked generator to kick start my muse when she decides to lie down and take a nap.

I'm expecting a fist pump for this! Are you ready?

I broke my 30K plateau! Which means that I can buy that Kindle book I've had my eye on. Love!

In my imaginary world, I've now given my girl a bodyguard (although she's young and not terribly strong, but strength comes in many guises) and had my guy find out that she doesn't wear panties. Good times.

Next up: napping with the heroes, giving my bad guy a bad day and learning that shapeshifting isn't in the cards for all parties.

Oh, I also finished my book.
Book #130 - Wolfen by Madelaine Montague - Okay. This book? Was good. There was good plot progression, well laid out mythology and it didn't feel as forced as some of the other books by this author. In other words, I liked it. Yes, we're still in the multiple partner genre and there's claiming and marking and hot sex. I'm enjoying this set of books I've been reading. Why mess with a good thing? Danika Whitney has been sent to a small town to study a pack of wolves that have been acting outside the norm. She's noticed some hostility from the natives, but that's small potatoes when a biker gang rolls into town and turns Danika's life upside down. Renting the cabin next to her puts her in close proximity to the five hot, dangerous men and she's having a hard time choosing between them. Admittedly, there are grammatical editorial errors that pepper the book, but I DIDN'T CARE. The book was just that fun. Now I can only hope that Madelaine Montague decides to put out another book in this universe.

Time to troll Amazon for my booooook.

My Kindle is here. I have read a book. There are a few kinks I need to work out of the thing, but I think that's more on my end than on the Kindle's end. I guess that means I'll have to read the user manual to get the most out of this bad boy.

Presently, I want to figure out if I can delete bookmarks (I was playing around with that feature and I really don't need three bookmarked pages on one book) and if I can shelve books in any sort of order (because I plan on filling this pretty little thing up and don't want to scroll through 1600 books at a later date looking for one I bought 6 months prior).

And things I like... I love the size of the Kindle. I love how easy it is to hold. I love the navigation buttons. I really like how easy it is to buy books and have them downloaded directly to the device. This could turn out to be a bad thing at a later date if I don't keep a tight rein on that. I just see my credit card bill. Yikes! For the most part I like the sleep mode screen saver that pops up. Right now I have a gorgeous one that looks like a page from the Book of Kells. On the other hand, there was one of an author that scared the pants off of me earlier. It was just downright spooooky. And the screen savers seem to be random so I'm a little frightened that it might pop up again when my eyes are closed and I'll be traumatized for life. I don't even know what author it was. It was just scary. *shudder*

Unfortunately, I didn't hit the 20K goal for my writing that I was planning on before my precious arrived. In fact, I don't think I wrote anything after updating the word count yesterday. Oops.

But I did read a book ...
Book #103 - His Lady Mistress by Elizabeth Rolls - Okay. It was free. I want to start by saying that. It was a free download through the Kindle store and it sounded promising. It wasn't terrible, exactly, but it was terribly contrived. Genteel, impoverished Verity falls in love with the Earl of somewhere when she was 15 and he showed her an inkling of kindness after her father died. 5 years later, she's being used as a servant by her uncaring guardians/Aunt and Uncle when the Earl shows up at their house. A series of half-truths, lies and misunderstandings have the two of them winding up in bed and when the Earl learns who she is, he agrees to marry her. Cue dramatic music. Seriously, the bulk of the problems between the two of them arise from hurt feelings and a complete lack of communication. Talk. That's all you have to do, people, and then you won't spend half the book moping and pining over the love that you've screwed up beyond redemption. But don't worry, I'm sure the two of you will find a way to overcome all of this. Maybe by talking. No, it's not terrible. It's decently written, it's just not absolutely fabulous.

Okay. I have things to do.

My baby is hooooommmmmme! He's been in Palm Desert with his dad's family since Sunday and I missed the little booger. Which isn't to say that I didn't enjoy my time alone (because I felt like I made some serious inroads on the writing and general mythology of my story) but I still missed him.

Speaking of the writing ...

The unfortunate side of this is that most of that was written last night. While I toiled away on my computer until 2. Oops. I did put in a few hundred words today and I'm still planning on doing some writing tonight while Cole is catching up on some of the shows that recorded while he was gone, but I thought I'd be farther along than this. Closer to 20K. It's cool. I'll cross that threshold tonight.

Things that happened in those few words: The scene I was able to set up for in my last bout of writing that will be the catalyst to bring our two mains in closer contact is halfway written. I've also come to realize that one of the secondary characters is turning into the fall guy for all the bad things that unwittingly happen to the heroine. I'm not thrilled with that, but I can't quite see how the things that need to happen would happen otherwise. On the other hand, I don't want this secondary character to be completely incompetent, which is kinda the feeling I'm starting to get from her. There might be some revising on her character in the near future. Or just the future.

I also went back and read the entire story from beginning to end today. For the most part, I'm very happy with it. There are some parts where the wording isn't quite there yet. It says what I want it to say, but in a very clunky, non-flowing manner. However, I'm not going to do any agonizing rewriting unless the words magically appear in my head and absolutely must be written down.

In news that involves neither Cole nor werewolves ... well, werewolves might be involved. Anyway. My Kindle has been shipped and according to the email that came along with the shipment confirmation, I can start downloading books immediately. Hmm. OKAY! I trolled the Kindle Store on Amazon and downloaded a bunch of freebies. I don't expect these books to be good necessarily, but I wanted something light and different to read. Cheesy ass romantic suspense stories fit the bill perfectly. Also, books about werewolves who have to fight their inner nature. Word!

Okay. I'm done.

The Kindle dropped $70 in price today. I'm told this is because a comparable e-reader dropped their price unexpectedly and Amazon has to keep up or get out. So. I bought my Kindle today. It was $189. I consider this a bargain since I would have paid $259 just yesterday. The good news is that I still have about $45 of my Kindle fund left since I was saving up to buy it at the higher price. Sweet! I'll get to buy a few books to go with that bad boy!

In news that does not have to do with my spending an extravagant amount of money ... I did a good bit of writing earlier. I'm just the tiniest bit shy of the 18K mark that I was trying to hit, but I'm pleased with today's writing.

I got to set up for the scene that will maneuver our girl into a compromising position, breathe a bit more life into one of the secondary characters, expand the landscape and scenery, and provide a pivot point for a break between tradition and survival of the Werewolf Packs. I also managed to end one chapter and start the next. Yay!

Next: Let the compromising scene play out, put the leads together, check in with our bad guy and try not to kill anyone. I make no promises on the last part.

My Kindle will be here on Thursday. I hope to hit 20K (more like 22K-24K) before that happens. Simply because I have a bad feeling that I might get sucked away by the pretty.

Also, my now phone is here! I'm all technological again! Awe.Some.

Things that I've done today. And some things that I didn't do but which happened anyway. In no particular order ...

1. Hailey's Dance Recital - It was good. I need to start with that. It was a fun little rendition of The Little Mermaid for Act 1. Act 2 had a bunch of dances that the dance company does for competition and whatnot. For the love of Pete, it was too long. They could have ended it after the first act and it would have been satisfying. Seriously, it clocked in at almost 3 hours. And my mom and Heather had to stay for the second performance. Yikes!

However, the competition dancing is amazing. Absolutely amazing. So I guess I'm glad I got to see it. Even though it was too long.

2. Cole's away for a few days with his dad's side of the family. He went to his step mom's brother's wedding today and then they're meeting the rest of his family in Palm Desert tomorrow. I've been home alone the whole damn afternoon. It's kinda creepy.

3. I decided to watch some of those movies that I've borrowed and ignored. Let the Right One In. A Swedish film about vampires. I loved the ending. It was creepy and dark and just worked perfectly. The rest of the movie? A little too artsy for my tastes. Those long, lingering shots of an empty table don't do it for me. Although the falling snow was very pretty. Movie #2 for the evening was 2012 which was fucking amazing because it had CITIES BLOWING UP AND DOING OTHER VASTLY CATASTROPHIC STUFF! Seriously, I could totally suspend all my disbelief after that first citywide destruction shot. I do so love my broken cities.

4. I did not open Word at all today. I feel like I should. But I'm not going too unless something pops into my head that must be written down on the spot. That said, I'm expecting to break 18K words tomorrow since I'm taking a break today. Brain, don't fail me now!

5. I did not receive my replacement phone today. This is bad because the temporary fix the technician performed on my old phone has worn off and, once again, the touchscreen isn't working at all. So, for those of you considering calling and/or texting me: Don't. I won't be able to answer or even see that you called until then. Sad. Very sad.

6. I purchased a bunch of free music downloads off of Amazon this morning. I guess "purchased" isn't the right word. All I'm going to say is that if you want to try out new music/bands/labels and possibly find something you can really sink your teeth into, check the Amazon MP3 page. They are always offering free singles and sampler albums that aren't half bad. I mean, most of the ones I choose aren't bad. I'm sure some of them aren't my cup of tea, but I ignore those for the most part.

What was I talking about again?
You know, maybe that second iced coffee I downed about half an hour ago wasn't the best idea.
I don't know. I'm done with the babblefest.
Later.

Another day, another journal. Another day past my sister's due date. I know that she will have the baby by the weekend (simply because she'll be induced either Thursday or Friday if she hasn't had him by then) by I think it's time. Get it done, Amb!

Since I finished off the Dark-Hunter series yesterday (boo) I'm having a hard time figuring out what to read next. I did read book 7 of The Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine earlier simply because book 8 is released tomorrow and I've already pre-ordered it (and it's on its way to me) and will be reading it once it's in my hot little hands. However, that's a book I can't count since I read it once already this year (see: Kelly's Rules for Book Counting in the New Millenium). You know how it goes: My journal, my rules.

Now I've picked up the first book in Christine Feehan's Carpathians series but I'm not really feeling it yet. It doesn't feel as epic as the DH series and I'm in the mood for something terribly epic and grand and bold and ... hot. Ehh, I'll give it a few more chapters before I decide one way or the other.

Have I mentioned how much I'd really like to own a Kindle recently? No? A lot. An awful, awful lot. I'm saving up my pennies. I think I'm about halfway there. Maybe a little less. Look, I'm totally being responsible and it's killing me! Killing me. Ouch.

Alright. I'm done. I have very important things to so. Very important. Or something.
Later.

Amb came over for dinner (Phil's up in the Santa Cruz mountains with his school for science camp and wouldn't be home until around 7 or so) and I think she was having the beginning pangs of labor. Poor thing. She was having back pain and I remember what that feels like. It's awful and horrible and you feel like you're going to crack in half. But YOU DON'T and it hurts so much you just want to cry. Anyway. It's possible I might have a new nephew to spoil rotten tomorrow. Or the next day. Or the next day. I'm sure it'll be soon.

It rained today. Something fierce. I really, really didn't expect as much rain as we got. In fact, I didn't know it was going to rain at all. Weird.

Book #69 - The Dream-Hunter (Dark-Hunter #11 and/or Dream-Hunters #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon - I remember reading this book a couple of years ago and not being terribly impressed by it. Huh. It just goes to show you that people can change because I ended up liking it quite a bit this time around. Set in the world of the Immortals who control and monitor dreams the story still draws liberally from the mythology Sherrilyn Kenyon has created in her other books. Arik is a Skoti, drifting through mortal dreams to siphon off emotion (which has been stripped from all of their kind) and pleasure. Drawn to Geary and her amazingly vivid dreams, Arik bargains to become human and experience the pleasure he feels with her in the flesh. The problem is that Geary is close to uncovering the final resting place of Atlantis and Apollymi, the Goddess of Destruction who once nearly destroyed the Earth. With the Gods meddling in her affairs, she and Arik will be lucky to make it out alive at all.

Book #69.5 - Fear the Darkness (Dark-Hunter #12) by Sherrilyn Kenyon - This is definitely a short story. It's not bad, but it's nowhere near the story I want told for Nick. The good news is that Sherriyn Kenyon has said that Nick will eventually get his own book. Yay. This story is little more than a snippet, looking into Nick's life as he returns to New Orleans for the first time since his mother's death. He's devastated by what Hurricane Katrina has done to his city and he's still so angry at Ash that he's working with the Spathi Daimons to try to bring Ash down. You can find this story on Sherrilyn Kenyon's website here.

-and-

Book #70 - Upon the Midnight Clear (Dark-Hunter #14 and/or Dream Hunters #2) by Sherrilyn Kenyon - I guess I skipped right over book 13. Which is weird because I have it sitting next to me! Whatever. This was more a novelette than an actual novel. Being shorter than normal, the action moved very quickly. Girl meets guy, girl and guy fight, girl melts guy's frozen heart, girl and guy make sweet love, girl and guy fight the bad guys. Done! No, really. It wasn't a bad book, by any means, it was just not as well developed as previous installments. Delving back into the world of the Dream-Hunters, Leta is an Oneroi who been asleep for the past two thousand years. When a dark god is summoned to earth, Leta is awakened to follow him down and stop him from killing the man he's been summoned to kill, Aidan O'Connor, former Academy Award winning actor and present-day recluse. Good, but not the best in the series by far.

You might not have been able to tell, but the books I ordered through Amazon came today. I almost lost my cool with Amazon, though. I had to talk to their help center because the tracking page said my order was delivered last night and NO IT WASN'T, YOU JERKS. All I'm going to say about this is that if the tracking says it was delivered to the front door on Tuesday at 7 pm, it damn well better be. Not Wednesday at 4 pm. Tuesday. 7 pm. That's not difficult. And if it is, they need to either get better tracking software or train their people better as to how to input the freaking tracking data.

For the record, I know it wasn't Amazon that had the issue. It was the delivery people. The delivery people who were not UPS. UPS doesn't have this problem with my Amazon packages. NO ONE SHOULD HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH MY AMAZON PACKAGES! THEY ARE SACRED AND SHOULD BE TREATED ACCORDINGLY! In conclusion, OnTrac can suck it.

I think I'm done now. Maybe.

Wow. I got nothing done around the house that I was planning on doing today. Nothing. Wait. I did make a delicious breakfast. It wasn't technically on my list, but it should have been. It was just that good. I also did about 15 minutes of yoga this morning and I'm planning on doing another session (or whatever you call it) once I'm done here. That's a good thing. Still, I didn't do any of those other things. Like cleaning. Oops.

In baby news, Amb is still hanging in there. She's feeling a bit off this evening, though, and I have a funny feeling that the wee lad is about to make his grand entrance. I'm getting a little excited to find out what they're actually going to call the kiddo. Plus, once I meet him I can give him his own nickname. Hailey is 'Bug' and Cole is 'CoCo'. Sometimes he's Coley Guacamole. Family members can be so darn mean to their kids. Ha!

I might have read a book or two...
Book #65 - Seize the Night (Dark-Hunter #7) by Sherrilyn Kenyon - I feel like sometimes I say the same things over and over again in my reviews but one of the most impressive things (for me at least) is how the issues that each of the main characters face aren't recycled book by book. Yes, the Dark-Hunters are all emotional wrecks for the most part but they have to overcome their particular phobias each in their own ways. Plus, the outcome isn't always the outcome I'd expect. I mean, they don't all just *poof* become human (as in book #2) and live happily ever after. Sometimes they become Gods. Or whatever. I like it. So. Here we have Valerius and Tabitha. Tabby is the twin sister of Amanda, Kyrian's wife from book #2. Valerius is the Roman General who is the grandson of the man who executed Kyrian in ancient Greece. Needless to say, this makes things tough during family reunions. To top it off, Desiderius (the half-God Daimon who tried to kill Tabby, Amanda and Kyrian) is trying to reform himself and make a comeback by teaming up with Stryker to control the fate of the world. We receive more info on Ash and his mysterious past. We see a lot of the Dark-Hunters from previous books. Thumbs up, baby!

-and-

Book #66 - Sins of the Night (Dark-Hunter #8) by Sherrilyn Kenyon - Now we jump over to see more of Ash when he's not acting all Dark-Hunter-esque. Although the story itself revolves around Alexion (a Dark-Hunter killed 9,000 years ago who Ash rescued from unrelenting torment as a Shade) and Danger (a Dark-Huntress), there's a bit of back story given on Ash and Simi and more hints dropped as to what Ash really is. Alexion's story is decent, but I was honestly in it for the Ash bits. Once again, Sherrilyn Kenyon took the ending where I wouldn't have expected it to go but she made it a good ride.

Apparently, I'm five books behind in this series. That would be five books that I don't own. I have another two that have been sitting on my shelf for quite a while that I've been putting off reading because it's been so long since I read the beginning of the series. Which, as you can see, is no longer a problem since I've been burning through these books with the power of the SUN! Anyway. I bought the five I'm missing today. I think the series is up to 18 books or something. AWESOME! I even bought three from the sub-series that I'm not thrilled with but I had to have because OMG! I'm reading the whole damn series. Yes, I am!

Yeah, I have a tendency to throw myself whole-heartedly into reading a series. I can't get enough of them. I even reach the point where I scour the author's website for free short story downloads or anything else that will feed the fucking addiction.

Fear me.
Okay. Now that I've shown the frightening stalkerish side of my personality, I'm going to go browbeat Cole into getting ready for bed.
Later.
