Today was a do-nothing day. I meant to do things. I really did, but somehow I just sat around and read and slept and ... slept. I stayed up way too late last night and for some reason the 3 hours of sleep I ended up with was absolutely not cutting it.

Oh, wait. I did dry hump the bargain books list at Amazon. Ultimately it wasn't as satisfying as the time I spend with the Kindle books at Amazon but that's only because the Kindle books download immediately. I actually have to wait for the bargain books to ship to me. Hence the dry humping.

Okay. Book stuff.
Book #219 - The Ghost Shrink, The Accidental Gigolo & The Poltergeist Accountant (Karmic Consultant #1) by Vivi Andrews - That is a damn long title for a book. I'm just saying. It's also a good book. I'm just saying.
Book #220 - Force My Hand by Em Brown - Not great by any means but still fairly interesting. I guess.

30 days of books... Day 36 - I ramble about the Poltergeist movies for some reason. It's weird.

I'm pretty sure Cole hasn't finished his homework. The kid sure does like to draw it out.

I had a really fun birthday. Today I slept in (OMG! DID YOU HEAR THAT?!?!), ate, had cake, opened presents and did all the other things that one generally does on their birthday.

But yesterday, oh yesterday. First off, I was carted off to San Francisco to see Cherie Priest at Borderlands. I'd never been to a book signing before and it was ... neat. I think there were around 30 people there so it felt small and intimate. I got 5 of my personal books singed and 2 more that I'm going to give away on my book blog. Cherie was a total sweetheart and took pictures with me while signing my pile of books. Pictorial proof:

I have other pictures but most of them were taken while she was signing so her head was down. I actually got out of line and put myself, Eric and Mal at the end of the line so that I had a few extra minutes to talk to her. It was just awesomely fun.

As a bonus, Borderlands is a used bookstore that specializes in Horror, Sci-fi and Fantasy books only. It was like walking into a store dedicated to my childhood.

After the signing we went to the bar where Mal's husband was hanging out watching teh Giants game. I got the world's biggest drink and proceeded to get my buzz on. Unintentionally, mind you. I really thought it was going to be a normal sized drink, not something big enough to pull stray planetary bodies into it's orbit. Then we went to dinner at a tiny, little seafood place where I discovered that I don't like raw oysters (they tasted like I was licking the beach. A sandy, dirty, cesspool of humanity beach. Yuck). We went to a little Italian coffee shop after and I had a delicious piece of cake while Mal and her husband sucked down espresso.

Then I came home and sat for a while eyeballing my haul of signed Cherie Priest books while I giggled to myself. It was pretty awesome.

So, that was my birthday. *fist pump*

And now onto the bookish stuff...
30 days of books... Day 35 - Free Kindle books make me smile.
In My Mailbox - Lots of books. Lots and lots of books. Love!

Okay. I'm done.

I did some major Halloween decorating today. Major. Spiderwebs. Tombstones. Skulls. Bones. Halloween colored lights. I was going to take a picture of it but then it started almost-raining and I decided to go inside. What? Almost-raining. Like, it wanted to rain and I could feel a light mist but there were no actual drops. Almost-raining. I'm sure it's in the dictionary or something. Maybe it's only the dictionary in my head. The one that tells me fifty different ways to describe man parts while writing.

Okay, I need to put all the bookish things down before I forget. Because that would be tragic. TRAGIC!
Short story - Steal Me by Tina Folsom - It's a short story. There wasn't a whole lot of room for character development, people.
Book #196 - Seventh Circle (Vampires Realm) by Felicity Heaton - I liked it. Not as much as the other book I read recently by this author, but it was fun and sexy. Score!
Book #197 - Sisters Red (Sisters Red #1) by Jackson Pearce - Okay. Jackson Pearce is doing a 30 Days of Vlogging challenge and her vlogs crack me up so bad that I had to go out and buy her book. Had.To.

Teaser Tuesday - Sisters Red, Unholy Ghosts (love, love, love this book!) and Radiance.
30 days of books... Day 23 - More free Kindle books! I'm like a ninja- sneaking and finding those free books left and right!

Speaking of which, Standoff: Cascadia Wolves Book 5 by Lauren Dane is a free ebook through Borders for a limited time. FREE BOOKS! Oh, and here's a few more free books from Borders.

Look at me! Promoting literacy like a fiend. Read! Read like the wind! Read like a mad thing! Just read! Oh, and visit my book review site and leave me comments! I love comments.

See, I told you I had a lot of book stuff I had to get out before I forgot.
Pictures of the awesome Halloween decorating tomorrow. I promise. Mostly.

Today I got up early, cursed on Twitter (Fuck you, 6:30!), went to Hailey's soccer game, went to the new Halloween store, finished a book, wrote up some bookish things, napped, got dinner for Cole and his friend, went to two more Halloween stores and checked out the costumes at WalMart. Whoa. That was a lot of Halloweening.

Now Cole, Hailey and I are watching Resident Evil 3.

Randomly, after using LJ for so many years where I put in my own coding for italics and such, Blogger kills me because I automatically do the < > tags while typing without thinking about it.

Bookish stuff:
On my wishlist (week 2) - Zombies, Werewolves and Alien Princes
30 days of books... Day 6 - It's a red letter day!
Book #184 - Guns Will Keep Us Together (Bombay Assassins #2) by Leslie Langtry - Where I liken finishing that book to Frodo's quest for the ring. My precious ....

I haven't picked out my celebratory Kindle book yet (for finishing my novel by the deadline I gave myself) but I did start reading The Hunger Games. I'm only a couple of chapters in but I can already see why people are so enraptured of it.

Success! Of a sort. I finished my novel. I did. However, I'm supremely unhappy with a few things in the final couple of pages. The problem is that I can't think of another way to write it. So, I'm going to put it aside for a few days and come back to it on Monday and hopefully have a bit of inspiration when I re-read the last few chapters.

That said:

Like I said, I pretty much hate the ending. It feels rushed and yet I can't figure out how to rewrite it. Yet.

Anyway, did you read that part where I finished writing my first novel? True story. It took longer than I thought it would and this is only for the first draft. *sigh* I need to have better writing discipline. I will have better discipline.

Btw, if you're not following me on Twitter, you've been missing out on some great fashion photos.
Example:
I take pictures of my legs/feet A LOT. It's ridiculous.

Bookish stuff:
30 days of books... Day 5
I've been trolling Amazon for the last hour or so to get the images and stuff together for tomorrow's wishlist post. Books ...Mmm.
Randomly, I won some ebooks in a contest and I know I won them because it was posted on the site and it says I'll be getting the email shortly, but I haven't heard from them yet. *whining* I want my books.

Okay. I've said enough.

I have one more day to finish my epic werewolf novel before I lose the chance to treat myself to a Kindle book. ONE DAY! I've written a few hundred words today but I refuse to post my word count until tomorrow. I refuse.

Anyway. Bookish stuff that is not the one I'm attempting to write:
30 days of books... day 4

And...
Book #182 - Compromising Positions by Jenna Bayley-Burke
Book #183 - Her Dark Angel (Her Angel #1) by Felicity Heaton

As a random tidbit, while browsing through Amazon last night I was checking out the top free Kindle books (which I do often since I had to stop actually PAYING for books) and there were a ton of new books on there. Books that looked good. I went on a downloading spree. I think I nabbed 11 new books. Sweet! Here ... Free stuff is good. You have to wade through some of the later pages, but FREE BOOKS!

Okay. I'm off to finish that damn novel. Then I get to take a small break and read The Hunger Games series. Then I get to go back to the novel and make it better. Then I die slowly when I send it out to be looked over by a trusted friend. Then I do it all again.

Umm, when did it get to be night? Seriously. How did that happen? Besides the rotation of the earth and all that. Gosh, I feel like I've had a spectacularly uneventful day. I didn't write, although I did open up Word. That must count for something. I played around on my book review site, but I really didn't do much. Interesting.

Anyway.
Book #179 - City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments #2) by Cassandra Clare.

I'm 200 and some pages into book 3. Which pretty much sums up how I wasted my day. Not that reading is ever a waste, but ... oh, forget I said that. I spent my day at Hailey's soccer game and reading. There you have it.

Oh, I also put up a post for books on my wishlist. This is the secret Kindle wishlist that I won't let anyone see because (a) you can't gift Kindle books so what's the point in making it public and (b) some of those books are so trashy they make me blush. This way my embarrassment doesn't go beyond what I choose to share.

On My Wishlist (week 1)
Now with snarky commentary about why I'd read such books. Ha! Yes, I do read terribly smutty FILTH! Thank you for noticing.

I must go read now.

Happy writing day! I hit my word goal and I told myself that if I did it in a timely manner I could buy myself a few books in the $2 range for my Kindle. Guess who's feeling good tonight? And guess who's going to be heading over to Amazon when she's done here? Yes, it is me! How did you know?!?!

So.

Today: I pushed the story forward a few days, which puts us ever closer to our climactic end scene. I had a fun little back-and-forth between two minor characters that I loved. If I could find a way to get those two together more often, I totally would. The spy with the bad guys is getting antsy to finish his job and get home, but he knows he has one more thing to do before he can get out of there.

Next up: I have to catch us up with our resident psycho and the girl he's attempting to kidnap. Maybe he'll have already nabbed her, maybe it'll be about to happen. It's hard to tell with him. Plus, an impromptu shopping trip is about to going horribly wrong and the hero's going to go batshit crazy over it.

Amazon, here I come!

This is going to be one of those nothing posts that people look at years later and go "Why? Why did you even bother firing up the computer if all you're going to write about is nothing?" The upside of this scenario is that people are looking at my journal years in the future and it's making them ask the tough questions. The downside? It's still a journal about nothing.

Yeah. Anyway. I finished the book that I've been belly-crawling over for the past few days.
Book #167 - Forsaken by Shadow by Kait Nolan - I ended up liking it, but I had a hard time connecting to the characters which is probably why it took me FOREVER to get through. Maybe it was the lack of explanation going in as to what paranormal/supernatural powers they had because once we hit the part where the other paranormals were teaming up with our mains and kicking ass, I found myself becoming much more interested. Cade has been living the last ten years of his life with a big fat hole in his memories. In fact, he remembers nothing prior to waking up in a hotel room with burned hands. For the past ten years, Embry believes the man she loved is dead and it isn't until her father is kidnapped and she has to mount a rescue mission that she finds out the truth. Finding him, giving him back his memories and convincing him to infiltrate a secure military base are just the beginning of her problems. Like I said, I ended up liking it, I just had a hard time plodding through the first half.

I'm putting myself on a strict "no new Kindle books that I have to pay for" regime for the next week. I seriously went a little out of control there for a while. Yeah. 100 books later. Oops. However, my one saving grave here is that Amazon does offer quite a few free reads that change often. Therefore I won't be totally hurting for new shapeshifting material. Awesome!

I'm off to do things that require very little brainpower. Or possibly to write, which requires large amounts of brainpower and a small, hand cranked generator to kick start my muse when she decides to lie down and take a nap.
Later.

I've always been one of those people who wakes up disgustingly early. Like, crack of dawn early. Like, what the hell's wrong with you? early. All of a sudden I've been sleeping in every day. It started with me sleeping until 7 and it sort of plateaued with me getting up at 7:45 every morning. Today? 8:45. I feel like the apocalypse is nigh!

You might be thinking, "No one wants to hear about how you can keep your unemployed ass in bed until normal people get up!" While that might be technically true, I actually had a reason for mentioning it. See, Heather has been off work since her knee surgery and she goes back to work next Monday. Uggh. That means I'll be back to getting up at 5:45-ish so she can drop Hailey-bug off before heading out. Add that to the fact that the kids go back to school the following day and you can probably guess that I'm going to have a bitch of a time getting back into the swing of things.

Plus, there's that whole job thing where I'll probably have to get up early for. Which I'm still not looking forward to. I mean, really! Who needs to work? I mean, besides needing money for such basics as food and my mortgage and my disturbingly overwhelming book addiction, who needs it? WHO? I ASK YOU!

Have I mentioned how easy it is to buy books for my Kindle? TOO EASY! It's like, oh, I haven't read a book today about shapeshifters who have a space ship and need to have copious amounts of sex while navigating an asteroid belt. Let me browse the Kindle store ... Look! A book about shapeshifters in space! How fortuitous! *click* *buy* *too easy*

Speaking of books ...
Book #163 - In The Warrior's Bed by Mary Wine - It's been a long time since I read a full length historical. I liked the overall feel of the book, the writing was good, the characters were well developed, but I've been immersed in shapeshifters and their ilk for a while now and it was hard for me to change gears and jump into something so mundane. That said, I'm not sorry I picked the book up and I could easily see myself re-reading at when I'm more in a brawny Scotsman sort of mood. Story? When Cullen McJames is accused of defiling a rival clansman's daughter in the King's court, he takes the high road and decides to kidnap her and marry her to protect both of their names. High jinks and sexing ensue.

Book #164 - The Diamond Heartstone by Leila Brown - A very uneven story, with a heroine that acts one way in one scene and then has a complete turnaround in the next. If it had been expanded and better plotted, I could see it being a worthwhile read, but as is it really didn't do anything for me.

Book #165 - A Chance Encounter (Fae Encounters) by Leila Brown - Laid out better than the last book I read by this same author, it still stuttered a bit with the introduction of some concepts that weren't fully explored. Admittedly, this feels like the beginning of a larger story, so that could be addressed at a later date. A sex Fae meets twins who have the ability to control air. She's fleeing from those that would use her unique talent to enslave her, they're looking for a mate. Explosive sex occurs.

I'm currently reading 3 books. One is the next in the Carpathians series and it's taking me FOREVER to get through. One is a novella that's a follow-up to Boneshaker and I feel like I need to reacquaint myself with those characters before I can really dig into it. The third is this story that looks good on the outside but every time I sit down to read it my brain freezes up and I end up reading a chapter or two before setting it down. *sigh* I also have the 11th book in Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series sitting here staring me in the face.

I need to lay off the 99 cent Kindle reads for a while and get back to the good stuff.

Okay. I've rambled and babbled and spewed my awesomeness across the internet enough today.

I'm expecting a fist pump for this! Are you ready?

I broke my 30K plateau! Which means that I can buy that Kindle book I've had my eye on. Love!

In my imaginary world, I've now given my girl a bodyguard (although she's young and not terribly strong, but strength comes in many guises) and had my guy find out that she doesn't wear panties. Good times.

Next up: napping with the heroes, giving my bad guy a bad day and learning that shapeshifting isn't in the cards for all parties.

Oh, I also finished my book.
Book #130 - Wolfen by Madelaine Montague - Okay. This book? Was good. There was good plot progression, well laid out mythology and it didn't feel as forced as some of the other books by this author. In other words, I liked it. Yes, we're still in the multiple partner genre and there's claiming and marking and hot sex. I'm enjoying this set of books I've been reading. Why mess with a good thing? Danika Whitney has been sent to a small town to study a pack of wolves that have been acting outside the norm. She's noticed some hostility from the natives, but that's small potatoes when a biker gang rolls into town and turns Danika's life upside down. Renting the cabin next to her puts her in close proximity to the five hot, dangerous men and she's having a hard time choosing between them. Admittedly, there are grammatical editorial errors that pepper the book, but I DIDN'T CARE. The book was just that fun. Now I can only hope that Madelaine Montague decides to put out another book in this universe.

Time to troll Amazon for my booooook.

Cole's having his friends over tonight for his birthday. 4 boys, a bunch of snacks and the X-Box 360. Yikes.

Naturally, I decided that today was the day I was going to buckle down and get back into the writing groove after taking a day or two to veg. It worked out better than I anticipated (what with the 4 boys, the snacks and the 360 downstairs) and I managed close to 1500 words. Nearly 4 pages. I'm happy with that. More or less.

To keep myself properly motivated towards my goal, I'm giving myself plateaus to reach. At 30K words I can order that book for the Kindle that I've been agonizing over. The one that costs more than 99 cents. The one that isn't free. At 35K ... well, probably another book. This is kinda a two-fold plan. One, I won't be spending money willy-nilly on those Kindle books that are far, far too easy to purchase (which means I'll be saving myself some dollars!). Two, I'll be working on writing this story which is going to be written, dammit!

So. Today's numbers:

I finally got the guy to admit that there's something about the girl that he finds interesting. I also got to set up some stuff that isn't going to happen for a few thousand more words but which will throw our guy into a tailspin. The girl will be able to take it because she's cool like that, but the guy? He'll totally be saying WTF?

I also finished a book. Not that anyone should be shocked by that.
Book #126 - Feline Heat by Madelaine Montague - I liked the idea behind this book more than anything else. The writing was good for the most part, the plot felt a bit thin in some places, the characters were a little on the one dimensional side, but at the same time I read the book in one sitting. Beginning to end. That has to say something. Right? Pressed into what amounts to slavery with a Russian mobster to pay off her boyfriend's debt, Kate is forced to dance as a stripper. One night her boss puts her onstage with a Siberian tiger and a lion as part of her show, expecting her to simulate the mating act with them while dancing. Afraid for her life, Kate helps the animals escape, never guessing that the two are really shifters. A flight through the forest, a few hot bouts of sex and Kate can't imagine her life without the boys. Like I said, the plot was a little thin in some places, but overall the story was a fun little romp. Nothing earth shattering, but not terrible either.

Yep. That's enough out of me.

Ooh! Another day of nonstop reading with a little writing thrown in. Awesome. I'd say that this Kindle is destroying my social life, but I didn't have much of one to begin with. I did take a few breaks from reading to do a couple of loads of laundry (the last of which is still in the dryer but since it's only socks I don't really care if they end up all wrinkly and stuff. Plus, I don't really wear socks, except for my awesome over the knee socks and those don't get washed with the normal socks because they're just that spectacular) and take the dogs for a walk or two. I'm pretty sure I ate at least two of the three square meals recommended.

*shrug*

Anyway.

Another not-great word count day, but I like what I managed to write. I'm just so happy that I managed to write past that block I was having on the opening for this chapter. It was painful. I must have started that damn chapter 15 times before I saw where it needed to come from. Annoying.

Things that have happened in those few hundred words: The guy and the girl will be spending time in close proximity to each other for the foreseeable future. A low ranking Pack member begins to see that not all things are as they appear to be.

Things that are going to happen when I get back to writing (aka: as soon as this post is finished): Bitchy Omega gets her ass handed to her by the low ranking Pack member. The bad guy gets to twirl his mustache. The kidnapped girl might make an appearance. Or she might stay chained up in the basement. It's hard to tell with her.

And then we have the books.
Book #113 - Last Hope (Mystic Valley/Carnal Powers #1) by Moira Rogers - Yes, I have been devouring all the books by this author. I really like the dynamic she gives her characters and the different worlds she creates with each new series. They're all close enough that you can see similar themes running through each, but they have enough differences that you're always on the lookout for what's coming next. So. In this series universe, shifters, psychics and spellcasters all live more or less out in the open. Kiara is an empathic nurse who gets involved with an Alpha wolf after a group of supernatural haters start attacking supernaturals in their small town. Adrian finds himself protecting Kiara when she becomes the group's next target. Once again, solid characters and an interesting story line kept me reading.

-and-

Book #114 - Tales from Mystic Valley (Mystic Valley/Carnal Powers) by Moira Rogers - Three short stories set in the Mystic Valley universe. The first, Moonshine, hooked me from the start. It was really the entire reason I picked up book 1. Claire is a dominant female coyote shapeshifter who's tired of acting human. On a whim, she heads out to the local supernatural bar and ends up going home with Lars, a dominant male coyote. The two battle it out in the bedroom and end up finding a balance between them. Both Claire and Lars play fairly pivotal roles in book #1. The second story, That Old Black Magic, was good but not quite as compelling as the first. Max is a shapeshifter who's goal in life is to bring down dark wizards. Polly is the professional thief he runs into during a job one night. Cue sexy music when they get locked in a closet together and have to give into their explosive passion. Not a bad story, it was just left very open ended and I'd like to know where it's ultimately going. The third story, The 13th Step, was a big departure from the previous stories in that there's not a whole lot of romance. Lots of heaving and thrusting, but it ends on a downer note that I found a little jarring. Once again, if the story of Black and Ella is going to be explored further, it could out to be a very interesting ride. What? I like to know what's going to happen to characters that I find interesting. Overall, it was a great introduction to this series and I hope some of the dangling threads get picked up in later books so that my curiosity won't be left unfulfilled.

I also read another short story, but I'll put that up tomorrow. Or not.
I'm done. My werewolves are calling to me.

Another day of doing nothing. Cole had a friend spend the night last night so we did a lot of hanging around the house and being slug-like today. We were also expecting it to be blazingly hot, which it wasn't, so we didn't plan on doing anything today just so we could beat the heat.

However, I did read the hell out of my Kindle. Seriously, it's hell free at the moment.
e-books - one of the things in life worth drooling over.
Book #105 - Kiss Me Deadly by Michele Hauf - This book took me far too long to read. Like, days. And it wasn't because it was OMG! So Deeeeeep! or anything. No, it was simply because it was a decent enough idea, poorly executed. There was way too much information and supernatural mythology for the amount of book we were given. The premise behind it was ... weak. It goes something like this: Vampires, Werewolves, and witches all exist. The blood of the witches is deadly to vampires. One vampire, however, has survived the death cocktail and risen as a Phoenix Vampire, which makes him super strong, immune to sunlight, blah, blah, blah. Going after the witch who tried to kill him, Nikolaus ends up bespelled by a love spell she had been cooking up. He falls madly in love with the witch and follows her around like an overgrown puppy. I can accept this part. The part that rubs me wrong is that the witch, his mortal enemy who has already tried to kill him and his entire tribe once, doesn't attempt to kill him on the spot and instead also falls in love with him. Without the help of her bad ass spell. What? Things just keep going from there. There are deals with the devil, vampire politics, more deals with the devil ... it gets to be too much. My suggestion? Skip this one and find something a little more cohesive to read.

-and-

Book #106 - Kept (Blood Lust #1) by Zoe Winters - Here we delve into a supernatural world of were-animals, vampires, and sorcerers who live in hiding alongside humans. The mythology of this series worked well, maybe because we were introduced to the different subspecies of supernaturals in bits and pieces instead of in one fell swoop. When were-cat Greta finds out she's to be sacrificed by her pack, she flees to the one person who can possibly protect her, Sorcerer and all around bad-ass, Dayne. Engaging writing and a set of circumstances that don't seem as vastly contrived as the last book I read, made this one a lot of fun. Several of the supporting characters come back in the 2nd and 3rd books, and the events in those books build directly off of what happens in this one. I liked it. I've already read the next in the series.

-and-

Book #107 - Claimed (Blood Lust #2) by Zoe Winters - Picking up from the closing events in Kept, we drawn from the world of the Were-cats and Sorcerers into the decidedly darker world of the vampires. After helping Greta and Dayne combat the effects of the drug Greta was given, Anthony attacks and nearly drains Charlee. Hating the fear he sees in her eyes after the attack, Anthony attempts to wipe her memory of his visit and instead wipes all her memories. Greta and Dayne step in and try to help, but ultimately she becomes Anthony's responsibility and ends up living with him in his apartment. While all this is going on, Anthony is involved in a tournament to decide who will be the next Vampire King. Confused? Don't be. It's pretty straight forward. Along the way we meet Jane, who happens to be our heroine in book #3. Which I'm halfway through. Awesome.

Good golly! I read a lot today.

First:
Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] jenah!
May your day be filled with shiny, happy things!

Second: I love my Kindle. It's ... practically perfect in every way. *sigh*

I can't say I did a whole lot today because I really didn't. There was a brief run to Home Depot this morning to buy a ceiling fan for the living room and Cole's room. For the record, we have three ceiling fans currently in our house. None of them are installed. Kinda defeats the purpose, doesn't it? The good news is that my uncle will be coming by at some point to help us install them. The bad news is that we have no idea when that will be. Boo.

Anyway. I did read a book-ish today. More of a short story than a book, really.
Book #104.5 - Becoming (Red Rock Pass #0) by Moira Rogers - A short story based 40 years before the events in Cry Sanctuary. It turned out to be a pretty complex read. Considering that I felt that book #1 was a little unsatisfying, I'm going to chalk this into the win category. Taking the Alpha that abused Abby in book #1 and some hints he dropped that Sam (Gavin's mate) had once been under his control, this story actually starts once Sam has broken free of his clutches. Rescued and brought to Red Rock Pass, Sam has to face the fact that not all Alphas are as twisted as her abuser. She learns to trust herself around Gavin and what it means to be a werewolf. Honestly, it was much better than I expected it to be. It doesn't tie up all the loose ends but it gives you a bit of insight into why Gavin and Sam were so ready to jump in to help when Abby was trying to free herself from Alan (Book #1).

One of the freebie books I downloaded is a dud. Not just a dud, but a painful dud. Like, ridiculous characterization, a plot full of holes. Just ... uggh. I'm having a hard time finishing it. I can stomach about a chapter before I have to put it down and walk away. Bad.

Okay. I'm off to watch my hot Viking Vampire.
Later.

Okay. I'm in the middle of writing but I had to take a break for a bit because ... well, I do.

Kindle. Love it.
Book #104 - Cry Sanctuary (Red Rock Pass #1) by Moira Rogers - Another Kindle freebie. I liked this one, I just thought there could have been ... more. More story. more resolution to the story. Sure, they tied up one part of the story line but they didn't give us the satisfaction of seeing Abby make peace with her wolf. Seriously, I got to the end and I kept looking for more. However, it was an intriguing premise and the writing was decent and I've already been checking out the others in the series. The plot? Strong Beta wolf helps strong female Beta after she escapes from the sadistic Alpha who forcibly turned her. Abby finds a measure of peace in Red Rock Pass, a sanctuary for werewolves, but her peace is quickly shattered when the Alpha she escaped from takes her sister hostage in a bid to get her back. Keith is drawn to Abby from the start and he can't bear the thought of her sacrificing herself for her sister. So, he helps her. After they have blistering sex. I guess the thing that bothers me is that I can see the bones of good werewolf mythology here, but it felt like it didn't get explored. Heck, for a book about werewolves, there was very little wolfish goings on. Like I said, though, I'm still intrigued enough to pick up the next books in the series.

Werewolves are my new thing. Can you tell?
Back to writing.

My Kindle is here. I have read a book. There are a few kinks I need to work out of the thing, but I think that's more on my end than on the Kindle's end. I guess that means I'll have to read the user manual to get the most out of this bad boy.

Presently, I want to figure out if I can delete bookmarks (I was playing around with that feature and I really don't need three bookmarked pages on one book) and if I can shelve books in any sort of order (because I plan on filling this pretty little thing up and don't want to scroll through 1600 books at a later date looking for one I bought 6 months prior).

And things I like... I love the size of the Kindle. I love how easy it is to hold. I love the navigation buttons. I really like how easy it is to buy books and have them downloaded directly to the device. This could turn out to be a bad thing at a later date if I don't keep a tight rein on that. I just see my credit card bill. Yikes! For the most part I like the sleep mode screen saver that pops up. Right now I have a gorgeous one that looks like a page from the Book of Kells. On the other hand, there was one of an author that scared the pants off of me earlier. It was just downright spooooky. And the screen savers seem to be random so I'm a little frightened that it might pop up again when my eyes are closed and I'll be traumatized for life. I don't even know what author it was. It was just scary. *shudder*

Unfortunately, I didn't hit the 20K goal for my writing that I was planning on before my precious arrived. In fact, I don't think I wrote anything after updating the word count yesterday. Oops.

But I did read a book ...
Book #103 - His Lady Mistress by Elizabeth Rolls - Okay. It was free. I want to start by saying that. It was a free download through the Kindle store and it sounded promising. It wasn't terrible, exactly, but it was terribly contrived. Genteel, impoverished Verity falls in love with the Earl of somewhere when she was 15 and he showed her an inkling of kindness after her father died. 5 years later, she's being used as a servant by her uncaring guardians/Aunt and Uncle when the Earl shows up at their house. A series of half-truths, lies and misunderstandings have the two of them winding up in bed and when the Earl learns who she is, he agrees to marry her. Cue dramatic music. Seriously, the bulk of the problems between the two of them arise from hurt feelings and a complete lack of communication. Talk. That's all you have to do, people, and then you won't spend half the book moping and pining over the love that you've screwed up beyond redemption. But don't worry, I'm sure the two of you will find a way to overcome all of this. Maybe by talking. No, it's not terrible. It's decently written, it's just not absolutely fabulous.

Okay. I have things to do.
Later.

My baby is hooooommmmmme! He's been in Palm Desert with his dad's family since Sunday and I missed the little booger. Which isn't to say that I didn't enjoy my time alone (because I felt like I made some serious inroads on the writing and general mythology of my story) but I still missed him.

Speaking of the writing ...

The unfortunate side of this is that most of that was written last night. While I toiled away on my computer until 2. Oops. I did put in a few hundred words today and I'm still planning on doing some writing tonight while Cole is catching up on some of the shows that recorded while he was gone, but I thought I'd be farther along than this. Closer to 20K. It's cool. I'll cross that threshold tonight.

Things that happened in those few words: The scene I was able to set up for in my last bout of writing that will be the catalyst to bring our two mains in closer contact is halfway written. I've also come to realize that one of the secondary characters is turning into the fall guy for all the bad things that unwittingly happen to the heroine. I'm not thrilled with that, but I can't quite see how the things that need to happen would happen otherwise. On the other hand, I don't want this secondary character to be completely incompetent, which is kinda the feeling I'm starting to get from her. There might be some revising on her character in the near future. Or just the future.

I also went back and read the entire story from beginning to end today. For the most part, I'm very happy with it. There are some parts where the wording isn't quite there yet. It says what I want it to say, but in a very clunky, non-flowing manner. However, I'm not going to do any agonizing rewriting unless the words magically appear in my head and absolutely must be written down.

In news that involves neither Cole nor werewolves ... well, werewolves might be involved. Anyway. My Kindle has been shipped and according to the email that came along with the shipment confirmation, I can start downloading books immediately. Hmm. OKAY! I trolled the Kindle Store on Amazon and downloaded a bunch of freebies. I don't expect these books to be good necessarily, but I wanted something light and different to read. Cheesy ass romantic suspense stories fit the bill perfectly. Also, books about werewolves who have to fight their inner nature. Word!

Okay. I'm done.

Umm, where did my evening go? I mean, whoa. I was sitting here, innocently reading some short stories of the naughty variety before I settled in to work on my epic masterpiece and somehow I got sucked into trying to figure out some of the finer points of Word so that I could transfer some of my guilty pleasures to my new Kindle (YAY!) when it finally arrives. Suddenly it's almost 11 and I've done no writing today.

Good thing I had all that coffee earlier and don't have a problem with staying up late. Right? Right.

Speaking of the epic masterpiece (aka-The Burning Plot Bunny), I was talking about some of the names I'm using in it with Eric earlier and how I'm doing research on those names and the various ancestries and meanings. It got me thinking along a path that looks promising. Not in this story because I'm afraid this story is going to get out of control if I don't start reigning myself in a little bit. I'm looking toward the horizon with this line of thought. I'm looking at how things evolved in the Werewolf Packs that stem from different cultures. I'm thinking about how my heroine doesn't know who she is and there could be a perfect opportunity there to explore that. For the record, I know who she is. I've known since early on. I don't think I'm going to spill the beans in this story, but I do know.

Am I starting to think too big? Is the story going to become a monstrous thing that scares me and gives me nightmares? Maybe. I'm okay with that today, though. Ask me again tomorrow and we'll see if I have the same answer.

Anyway. I have to write. For serious.
Later.

The Kindle dropped $70 in price today. I'm told this is because a comparable e-reader dropped their price unexpectedly and Amazon has to keep up or get out. So. I bought my Kindle today. It was $189. I consider this a bargain since I would have paid $259 just yesterday. The good news is that I still have about $45 of my Kindle fund left since I was saving up to buy it at the higher price. Sweet! I'll get to buy a few books to go with that bad boy!

In news that does not have to do with my spending an extravagant amount of money ... I did a good bit of writing earlier. I'm just the tiniest bit shy of the 18K mark that I was trying to hit, but I'm pleased with today's writing.

I got to set up for the scene that will maneuver our girl into a compromising position, breathe a bit more life into one of the secondary characters, expand the landscape and scenery, and provide a pivot point for a break between tradition and survival of the Werewolf Packs. I also managed to end one chapter and start the next. Yay!

Next: Let the compromising scene play out, put the leads together, check in with our bad guy and try not to kill anyone. I make no promises on the last part.

My Kindle will be here on Thursday. I hope to hit 20K (more like 22K-24K) before that happens. Simply because I have a bad feeling that I might get sucked away by the pretty.

Also, my now phone is here! I'm all technological again! Awe.Some.
