I have a very important thing to admit here. Very.Important. Guys, I wrote my first bout of book-porn today. Not porn that could go into a book, but porn about books. It was awesome. Don't believe me?

Well, check this out!

He drew her hand away from the one she was touching and led it down a shelf. “Science Fiction?” She was using two fingers now, a slow glide across the words printed on the spine.

“Mysteries?” Back up to the first shelf where the books were stacked on top and in front.

“Classics?” It was a pitifully small collection, to be sure, but her fingers lingered on the creases and the imperfections where the spines had cracked and bent.

“Military tactics?” He coaxed her into a crouch to reach the bulk of the books that took up the bottom two shelves. Her hand was engulfed in his and he felt the bunch and release of muscles as she ran all her fingers across them. He stifled a groan when her palm dipped down and she laid her entire hand against two of the bigger hardcovers, her fingers continuing those convulsive stroking motions.

Yes, I am ridiculously pleased that I managed to make touching books kinda dirty.

I also managed to crack that 35K plateau I was working toward.

(Psst! That means I can buy the next book in the series I'm reading!)
I'm very excited about this on many levels. I think I've written more the first few months of this year than I did all of the past five years combined.

So, today's writing: recapped the sexy night that didn't involve sex and gave our girl a faint blossom of hope that maybe she'll come out of all this in one piece. Unfortunately the book porn occupied my brain and I never made it over to the bad guy. So that's on the menu for tomorrow.

I spent the bulk of the day writing, but I also finished my book last night.
Book #131 - The Devil You Know (Morgan Kingsley #2) by Jenna Black - I'm really getting into this series. I know I was a little iffy on the first book, but Lugh won me over. Apparently I have a thing for demons and werewolves. Who knew? Exorcist and unwilling demon host, Morgan Kingsley has her hands full keeping the Demon King hidden from his enemies. Now there's a sociopathic demon hunting her down and a family secret comes to light that sends her entire world into a tailspin and Morgan has to figure out how far she's willing to go to keep herself and her friends safe. I like the twist the secret brought to the entire mythology. I adore Adam and Dom. I liked that Lugh wasn't afraid to use Morgan's attraction to the two of them to get her all fired up. There was just a lot of little things I liked. Plus? I only caught a time or two where Morgan's toughness was mentioned. Thank you, Jenna Black!

And now I must do things.

Good writing day! I think it's all about the motivational goals.
Because I want the next book in that series.

Today I managed to: throw some aspirations on our guy's sexual prowess, give some hints that the bodyguard might be destined for more than she currently is, and take our guy's shirt off so he could be ogled. Nice.

Tomorrow: I need to get my bad guy back into the picture. He's decided to hide out and inflict pain where no one can see him. That jerk. I also have to make sure that the kidnap victim is still alive. I'm pretty sure she is. She's tough like that.

In the land of real life: It is seriously breezy here. Like, I might need to shut my window because it's blowing hard. Ha! I said "blowing" and "hard". Together. Ha! Yes, I do crack myself up. Thank you for noticing.

I didn't finish my new book last night. I'm trying to draw it out. I'm almost done with it, though, so I'm pretty sure it's not going to last out the night. Poor thing.

Okay. I'm done.

It's my baby's birthday! He's 11. ELEVEN! Crazy stuff. We had a family-type party for him. Dinner of his choosing, presents, cake.

I took him to the movies this afternoon. We saw The Last Airbender, which really could have been better. It seemed like all the good stuff was put in the trailer. The dialogue was HORRIBLE. Absolutely cringe worthy. As far as I can see the main issue with the movie is that they tried to cram all the info that you got in an entire season of the first series into an hour and 45 minutes. It just didn't work. There was too much exposition to keep the audience moving along with where the story was going. If I hadn't seen the cartoon (all three seasons, thank you) I doubt I would have been able to follow as well as I did.

However, when the action scenes kicked in, they were pretty cool. The entire end of the battle with the wall of water ... neat.

Still, it was poorly done. M. Night Shyamalan isn't as good as everybody seems to think he is. Because that movie could have really rocked. The sets were gorgeous and the story itself is a good one. It just fell very flat in this incarnation.

Anyway. After getting home from the movies, Hailey and I popped in the series. I only saw two episodes before I took a little nap, but it's such a well constructed show (especially compared to the movie) that I'm going to stick with it for a bit. I'm not sure if I'm up to watching all 3 seasons, but ... we'll see.

I finished my book last night.
Book #121 - Demon Inside (Megan Chase #2) by Stacia Kane - I really like the mythology here. The demon hierarchy can be a little difficult to follow but that has more to do with the lapses into the demon tongue and me, as a reader, having to learn and remember what the different titles are and how they connect to one another. It's in no way insurmountable and by the end of the book I was doing pretty well with it. So. Three months after the events in Personal Demons, Megan is the head of her own little demon family but she'd really learned very little about her role within it. When demons begin blowing up, Megan has to start thinking like a demon to protect those she's sworn to. Meanwhile, human family issues bring her back to the hometown she left behind a dozen years before. Forced to face some very hard truths, Megan uses her new found power to deal with the Very Bad Thing that happened to her when she was 16 and put those demons to rest. Haha. Demons. With all the secrets Gray and Megan seem to try to keep from one another, I wonder how long they're going to last. Those crazy kids.

I also got some writing done last night after I did the LJ thing.

Not great, but I seem to do more writing at night than not so there might be some word-age in my near future.

I think I'm done.

I popped season 1 of Veronica Mars in earlier just because. I forgot how much I loved the first season. Just. Wow. Wow. Wow. The pilot episode. The Logan/Veronica hatred that morphs into full on lustiness. Two thumbs up!

I also wrote a bit ...

The bulk of that was done before noon. Which is nice. However, then I did the whole VM thing and didn't get much writing done after. Whoops. Easily distracted, that's me!

I did a little reading ... can you guess who the author is?
Book #118 - Down and Dirty by Moira Rogers - Another series of short stories. Wild Card is set in a time after a great war has decimated the human population and most technology has been cast aside, the werewolves live in relative harmony with the humans. Alpha Jack Owens and independent rancher Ginny Howard clash constantly. He craves her, she doesn't want to join the pack. A night of steamy sex and a set of rogue wolves determined to push Ginny off her land, leaves Jack with no choice but to claim her. Fun, quick and a nice little journey into a wild west universe. Calling the Bluff puts Hazel, a female werewolf about to enter her first heat, up against Oliver, the lone wolf widower who doesn't quite understand why Hazel is interested in him. When they get caught out alone and she goes into full heat, Oliver vows to make sure she's taken care of. In more ways than one. I liked that the framework for this story was laid out in #1 and it played out well. Ante Up gives us the Pack Beta Thomas, solid, steady and dependable, and Lottie, proprietor of one of the local whore houses who's looking for passion. A stolen kiss shows Lottie that she might be dismissing him without giving him a chance. A fire, a missing girl and some hot loving round out this story. Sweet.

-and-

Book #119 - Some Like it Haunted (Mystic Valley/Carnal Powers #2) by Moira Rogers - This book really had no relation to the first Carnal Powers book which is a pity since I really liked those crazy supernaturals. However, it did have a hot, powerful medium and a saucy, intellectual, almost magically-nil professor who are investigating a haunted house. Not bad, by any means. I was just hoping to get more face time with Lars, Claire, Kiara and Adrian.

So, there. I hope to get a little more writing done tonight. If I can just get that darn Veronica Mars off my TV.

Hey! It's Friday night! Cole has two friends spending the night and I'm upstairs with my music and books. Perfect!

Did some writing today.

A bit over 1000 words. Not terrible. I'm still playing around with closing out the scene that sets the pace for a bunch of upcoming scenes, but I feel like it's starting to wind down. Nice.

*ahem*
I read a bunch of short stories and other porny bits. Which is just one reason I love my Kindle so much. I can read books with really, really trashy covers and no one looks at me strangely because they can't see the damn cover! Brilliant. Honestly, I don't know if I'd be able to hold up the book with the girl tied up on the cover in public. I mean, maybe I could. But I just don't know. This way makes it so much less embarrassing.

Onward.

Holy smokes. That was a lot of reading and reviewing. And I still have more. I just have to finish the third story in one of the series before I can review it.

I read too much.

Let's get this party started, shall we ...
Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] heather13!
May all sorts of shiny, distracting things ... distract you!

Today's going to be one of those hard and fast posts. Why? Because I've been reading and I've been writing. And that's about it.

On the writing front: I finally poked and prodded myself through the beginning of the next chapter. I knew where I needed it to go, but I had a really hard time seeing where it started. Honestly, that's not a problem I normally have. If anything, the beginnings are usually easy for me. I love finding that one line that captures the attention and drags you in, kicking and screaming.

However, I worked through it and managed several pages of things happening that I've been working towards for the past few chapters.

So.

Not a huge amount of words, but I did go back and fix a few of the things that were bugging me. Most of them were little things (how close it was to the full moon, how many people died in the opening scene, wording on one scene that read so awkwardly that I'd cringe every time I came across it) but they were things I kept telling myself I'd go back and tweak. Now, on one hand I don't want to get so obsessed with writing everything absolutely perfectly the first time around that I start tweaking and tweaking and tweaking and give up on the actual writing, but these were things I knew I'd have to go back and change eventually. These were the things that I started out writing one way and figured out halfway through that in order to move the plot forward they'd need to be altered. Sometimes slightly, sometimes a lot.

So, it's done. For the most part. Let's just say that I'm happier with it now and move along.

Onward to the books. Are you ready for this?
Book #110 - Sanctuary's Price (Red Rock Pass #3) by Moira Rogers - One thing I've found myself really enjoying with this series is that the main characters from prior books are brought back and we get to see them in a slightly different light. Dylan, the wolf who helped Abby escape the clutches of the mad Alpha in book #1, finds his relationship with Cindy, the town doctor, falling apart after the events at the end of book #2. Drawn to Sasha, an apprentice witch trying to help the Pack in their struggle against the Helena wolves, Dylan has to let go of a decade of being abused to help her overcome her terror at finding herself thrown into a full on Were-war without her mentor. This was a nice slow ride after Brynn and Joe's tumultuous coming together in the last book. Dylan's not a strong wolf, more a middle of the pack kind of guy, and Sasha is a witch who doesn't quite know the full range of her power, having lost her mentor before she was fully trained. I'm not saying it wasn't hot, because it was. I'm just saying that it was very different from Brynn's moon-crazed coming together with a highly Alpha wolf. If you can't tell, I'm seriously enjoying this series.

-and-

Book #111 - Sanctuary Unbound (Red Rock Pass #4) by Moira Rogers - We finally get to meet some vampires. Adam Dubois, the lumberjack vampire from Maine, friend of the Alpha, who Dylan, Sascha, Brynn and Joe go to recruit to their side (book #3) takes center stage when he comes to Red Rock to help the wolves with their Helena problem. He falls for Cindy, the town doctor, but he has a deep dark secret he's not thrilled to let out. She's kinda screwed up too. Apparently, being secretive means you'll have hot sex. Often. First off, did you see the part about a lumberjack vampire? Awesome. Secondly, this book gives us some pretty solid resolution on the whole Helena issue. We learn who's pulling the strings and how far their willing to go to get what they want. Although the main story arc has been resolved, I'm still hoping for more in this series. I'm not holding my breath, but I think it would be really, really nice to see how things work out down the line.

-and-

Book #112 - Short Stories from Red Rock Pass by Moira Rogers - Two short stories set in the Red Rock universe. The first was Becoming, which I read (and reviewed) the other day. It was a very good glimpse into Sam's life when she was first brought to Red Rock and how she becomes one of the forces behind allowing the town to grow into the sanctuary we see in later books. The second story was Little Things, which starts with Gavin giving young Keith some advice on courting the ladies as he prepares to ask Sam to marry him. 40 years later, Keith uses that advice to show Abby how much he loves her. Surprisingly complex for a short story, it ended up being sweet and giving you a bit more insight into the Alpha males of the Pack.

-and-

Book #112.5 - Honor Bound by Moira Rogers - I've honestly been impressed with the level of story you get with Moira Rogers' short stories. I never once felt like I was being slighted with the amount of story I was given. The characters are well developed (sometimes more so than characters in other full-length novels by other authors) and you want to know what happens to them. Amaia is a demon who betrays her people to save a child werewolf. Returning her to her Pack puts Amaia in the path of the child's brother, Orion. He agrees to help her escape the death sentence she's put herself under and ends up mating himself to her after a night of hot sex. Honestly, I would go for more in this universe. It was fun and different enough from the Red Rock universe to keep me interested.

Wow. That's a lot of books I read.

My baby is hooooommmmmme! He's been in Palm Desert with his dad's family since Sunday and I missed the little booger. Which isn't to say that I didn't enjoy my time alone (because I felt like I made some serious inroads on the writing and general mythology of my story) but I still missed him.

Speaking of the writing ...

The unfortunate side of this is that most of that was written last night. While I toiled away on my computer until 2. Oops. I did put in a few hundred words today and I'm still planning on doing some writing tonight while Cole is catching up on some of the shows that recorded while he was gone, but I thought I'd be farther along than this. Closer to 20K. It's cool. I'll cross that threshold tonight.

Things that happened in those few words: The scene I was able to set up for in my last bout of writing that will be the catalyst to bring our two mains in closer contact is halfway written. I've also come to realize that one of the secondary characters is turning into the fall guy for all the bad things that unwittingly happen to the heroine. I'm not thrilled with that, but I can't quite see how the things that need to happen would happen otherwise. On the other hand, I don't want this secondary character to be completely incompetent, which is kinda the feeling I'm starting to get from her. There might be some revising on her character in the near future. Or just the future.

I also went back and read the entire story from beginning to end today. For the most part, I'm very happy with it. There are some parts where the wording isn't quite there yet. It says what I want it to say, but in a very clunky, non-flowing manner. However, I'm not going to do any agonizing rewriting unless the words magically appear in my head and absolutely must be written down.

In news that involves neither Cole nor werewolves ... well, werewolves might be involved. Anyway. My Kindle has been shipped and according to the email that came along with the shipment confirmation, I can start downloading books immediately. Hmm. OKAY! I trolled the Kindle Store on Amazon and downloaded a bunch of freebies. I don't expect these books to be good necessarily, but I wanted something light and different to read. Cheesy ass romantic suspense stories fit the bill perfectly. Also, books about werewolves who have to fight their inner nature. Word!

Okay. I'm done.

Umm, where did my evening go? I mean, whoa. I was sitting here, innocently reading some short stories of the naughty variety before I settled in to work on my epic masterpiece and somehow I got sucked into trying to figure out some of the finer points of Word so that I could transfer some of my guilty pleasures to my new Kindle (YAY!) when it finally arrives. Suddenly it's almost 11 and I've done no writing today.

Good thing I had all that coffee earlier and don't have a problem with staying up late. Right? Right.

Speaking of the epic masterpiece (aka-The Burning Plot Bunny), I was talking about some of the names I'm using in it with Eric earlier and how I'm doing research on those names and the various ancestries and meanings. It got me thinking along a path that looks promising. Not in this story because I'm afraid this story is going to get out of control if I don't start reigning myself in a little bit. I'm looking toward the horizon with this line of thought. I'm looking at how things evolved in the Werewolf Packs that stem from different cultures. I'm thinking about how my heroine doesn't know who she is and there could be a perfect opportunity there to explore that. For the record, I know who she is. I've known since early on. I don't think I'm going to spill the beans in this story, but I do know.

Am I starting to think too big? Is the story going to become a monstrous thing that scares me and gives me nightmares? Maybe. I'm okay with that today, though. Ask me again tomorrow and we'll see if I have the same answer.

Anyway. I have to write. For serious.
Later.

The Kindle dropped $70 in price today. I'm told this is because a comparable e-reader dropped their price unexpectedly and Amazon has to keep up or get out. So. I bought my Kindle today. It was $189. I consider this a bargain since I would have paid $259 just yesterday. The good news is that I still have about $45 of my Kindle fund left since I was saving up to buy it at the higher price. Sweet! I'll get to buy a few books to go with that bad boy!

In news that does not have to do with my spending an extravagant amount of money ... I did a good bit of writing earlier. I'm just the tiniest bit shy of the 18K mark that I was trying to hit, but I'm pleased with today's writing.

I got to set up for the scene that will maneuver our girl into a compromising position, breathe a bit more life into one of the secondary characters, expand the landscape and scenery, and provide a pivot point for a break between tradition and survival of the Werewolf Packs. I also managed to end one chapter and start the next. Yay!

Next: Let the compromising scene play out, put the leads together, check in with our bad guy and try not to kill anyone. I make no promises on the last part.

My Kindle will be here on Thursday. I hope to hit 20K (more like 22K-24K) before that happens. Simply because I have a bad feeling that I might get sucked away by the pretty.

Also, my now phone is here! I'm all technological again! Awe.Some.

After journaling last night I tooled around on my story. At that point I had written maybe 300 words for the day. Maybe. I went back and re-read some of the parts that I've been mulling over as being either too rough or needing a little tweaking because of things that came later. Then I sat down and actually wrote. I think I turned the computer off around midnight.

Amazingly, I turned out nearly 2000 words total yesterday. More, if you count the changes I noodled around with.
So.

I added another 200-300 words today and I'm still seeing the path this story is taking. I finished off chapter 5 and got a good start on chapter 6. I'm still contemplating killing someone, but it kinda depends on whether my bad guy is as bad as I think he is. It also depends on whether the victim has to guts to keep going in the face of adversity. I've laid the groundwork for some scenes between the two mains that I knew were going to happen from the beginning. Some of these scenes were the ones that tipped the scales in favor of me trying to write this story. Once I saw them I wanted to know how they ended. I wanted to know how my heroine worked her way out of the hole she'd been thrown into. Metaphorically. I wanted to see if my hero had the foresight to fight for the things worth fighting for.

Thus far, they haven't disappointed me.

*happy sigh*

Yes, this story feels all-consuming sometimes, but it's so worth it. I love the feeling I get when the words I'm writing go from a jumble of ideas to a cohesive story.

Enough writing talk. I went to Verizon today to have them take a look at my phone. The tech did a few things and told me that it was all fixed and shouldn't freeze up again. I'm like, hmm, let me see. I opened up the Twitter app, flipped the phone and handed it right back to him when the funky lines that should not be appeared. His response? "Wow. I've never seen that happen before." Yeah, yeah, buddy. Whatever. I'm having a new phone shipped to me. It should be here no later than Monday, although probably Saturday. As a plus, my phone is working now. It just randomly gives me the squiggly lines of DOOM every so often and then it gets over itself. Yay?

Since we were down in San Jose doing the Verizon thing I asked Cole if he wanted to go up to the bookstore at the mall. We went, I bought a book. I dragged Cole into Hot Topic because I love the clothes that store carries and have only actually shopped there online. 3 t-shirts for Cole (Halo, Star Wars and Deadliest Warrior), a new pair of fingerless gloves (for me), a new pair of over the knee socks (for me) and a mini skirt (obviously for me) later we managed to make our way out.

I'll be wearing that mini skirt tomorrow. Maybe with my completely awesome Fangtasia shirt. Don't be jealous, you can't all be as wickedly goth as me!
Ha!
Okay. I have things to do.

So. We went berry picking today. It was hot but the breeze was nice. The berries we originally went to pick were ... let's just say that they were seriously picked over (ha! a little play on words). After an hour or so of not-so-great berry finding, we switched over to the boysenberry patch. Holy Toledo! Those bad boys were dripping from the bushes. I felt like we got twice as many berries picked over there in half the time. It was awesome!

Here's the part that makes my face sad: I took pictures of the kids picking. I even posted the one of Hailey on Twitter. After we got home I tried to post the one of Cole. Alas, my phone froze the fuck up and now the touch screen won't turn on at all. I know the phone itself is on because it rings when I get a call but I can't answer the call because it's a fucking touch screen and I have no idea where I need to be touching it.

ANNOYING!

Needless to say, it looks like I'm going to be making a trip to Verizon tomorrow. I'm hoping it's something easily fixable and doesn't require getting a replacement phone because I don't want to download my apps again. Yes, I am lazy. L-A-Z-Y. I accept this about myself.

On the writing front, I sat down to finish up that chapter last night and it just wasn't happening. Today? I was a little bit tired after the berry picking experience and took a long-ass nap. So. Not so much writing done since yesterday's word count. A couple hundred words at best.

It's cool, though, because I finished a book.
Book #101 - Infinity (Chronicles of Nick #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon - I pretty much loved this book. Let's see - it had Zombies, Dark-Hunters, Demons, and Gods. What more do you need in life? This book follows Nick Gautier at age 14 with the twist that it's an alternate reality from the events that we've learned about in previous Dark-Hunter books. At least, I assume it's an alternate reality. If things go as planned, will Nick's destiny take a turn in the regular DH books? Or is all this a "what if" story line? I don't know! I.Don't.Know. However, I'm extremely curious to find out. Here's the thing, there's a lot of DH mythology that you see in bits and pieces here. Would it make sense to the uninitiated? I'm not 100% certain. Does it enhance the DH books? Definitely yes. If you're looking at this book as a starting point, I'm going to have to say that you'll get more out of the book as a whole if you read the entire series. That said, don't let that scare you. The book is downright fun.

You know, I noticed that I slow down on reading a lot when I'm writing. And I feel itchy when I'm sitting down to read. Like, I should be doing something else. Darn it, those werewolves are burrowing deep into my brain. Not that I'm complaining. I'm just pointing out that I haven't been reading nearly as much as I was for a while there. However, since I've hit my 100 book goal for the year, I'm not stressing about it. In fact, I'm more pleased with the writing than I can express.

Wow. I really went on here, didn't I? I think it's time to go now.

Today's writing fun!

Chapter 5 is nearly complete. We got some mythology behind the Werewolves, a full-on shift, and the girl is finally out of her injury-induced sleep.

Next up: Close out chapter 5 with a meeting between wolf and girl. Send our hero out into the big, bad world to hunt some more baddies. Decide whether the kidnap victim survives.

I plan on finishing out that chapter tonight.

On top of the random writing I've been doing, I'm helping a certain lovely someone edit her novel. It's rather fun, if I do say so. Except that sometimes I have to go back and re-read becasue I forget the actual editing part. :) That's a good thing, though, because it means that THE STORY IS A GOOD ONE!

Cole, Hailey and I have a date with Amber, Phil, and Ryan to go berry picking tomorrow morning. Two cars, berry-stained fingers, hours of fun!

Wow. I might have to shut my window. It's getting a little chilly. Annnnd. I still have to take the dogs out. I guess I'd better find my sweater.

We had kinda a nothing day today due to Cole's career ending toe injury. When we took off the band-aid earlier I wasn't nearly as disgusted as I thought I'd be. It's bloody. The nail is probably going to fall off at some point in the near future. But. It wasn't vomit inducing gross. Awe.some.

I watched the season premiere of True Blood. Alexander Skargard is my new TV boyfriend. My panties have decreed it and I must listen. He looked absolutely amazing. Stunning. Beyond compare. The episode wasn't half bad either. In all seriousness, I actually watched the entire episode with no fast forwarding. Even the Tara scenes. I think that happened in ONE episode for season two. Whoa.

And on the writing front ...

Not a humongous word count day, but I introduced a bad-ass bad guy and finished off a chapter. The good guys have been given a concrete purpose that they're moving toward and some more hints as to our heroine's past were dropped.

Next up: I have to get the girl out of the infirmary, kidnap an unsuspecting young lady, and have the Pack Beta come to some harsh realizations.

Amb, Phil and I are trying to plan a berry picking day later in the week. I'm going to buy a pie. A delicious, delicious pie. Yum. And we'll pick some berries. I want to make more blackberry jam. That would be the best thing ever.

Now I'm hungry.

[livejournal.com profile] jenah and her son come over for the day. Jenn and I watched the 5 aired episodes of Happy Town. I know that show only has 3 more eps to go, but I'm really, really hoping they tie up the ongoing storyline. Sadly, I don't know if that was in done before it was canceled, but I like the damn thing. I'll be a little sad to see it go. Boo.

Burning Plot Bunny update: Wrote a page or two of character/back story sketches since I didn't have actual computer time. According to Word, I have 24 pages written. I think I have 9 pages of notes. o_O If I'm not careful, my notes are going to overtake the written pages soon. It'll be anarchy! There will be rioting in the streets! Looting! Screaming! Never-before-seen shenanigans! It'll be downright wild.

And that pretty much sums up my day. Cole has ensconced himself downstairs for the evening since (in his words) "it's just cooler down there". I don't think it's all that much cooler. It does get a bit of a breeze, however. I don't know. My room is grotesquely hot. Blech.

I'm outta here.

Does anybody know where you can get that cool little stat bar that tracks how many words/books/whatever you're trying to track? For example: 10,000 words/60,000 words with the cute little bar that shows your progress. I've used it before but I completely do NOT remember either what it's actually called nor where to get it. I've googled such terms as "stat bar", "word count bar", "word count" and many, many permutations of those... oh, never fucking mind. I just found it.

So. I did a wee bit of the writing today. Nothing fantabulous or anything, but I did break the 10K word mark on the story. I'm not sure how many words I'm aiming for altogether, so I'm going to say 50K at the moment (in honor of NaNoWriMo).

Look!

This is a very exciting moment for me. Plus, I like the visual representation of my writing with that little bar.

So, the scene that pushed my words over 10K? A sex scene. A fast and dirty sex scene between two people who are not my main characters. I will say that they have a pretty substantial part in the story, but they are not the mains. Next up, we wander over to our bad guys and see how depraved and bothersome they really are. Well, after our two sexy werewolves have a little post coital chat.

Why, yes. I have decided to embrace the fact that I think about sex-type stuff way too much and turn it into something that works for me. Writing porn, ftw!

The boy is driving me crazy. How can you be bored? How? You have all these things inn the house to do and play with and DO. No boredom allowed!

I'm done.
Back to the writing.

I haven't written anything on my story in the past two days. Wait. No. That's not correct. I've written things on it, it just hasn't been of the plot variety. Basically, I have these unconnected scenes that are flipping through my head. For the most part, I can see where they're going to go in the overall plot-line so I started thinking, Hmmm, I'd better get the bare bones of these ideas down on paper before I can't remember all the bits and pieces. Five pages of notes later ...

Guys, I've never been this organized when it comes to writing. NEVER. And this story keeps humping other parts of itself and spawning new ideas and I almost can't keep up.

Trust me when I say that I'm not complaining in any way, shape or form. I love how this story is evolving. I love how it's falling out of my head. I'm simply stunned and amazed at how quickly it's growing.

So, those pages of notes would be why I didn't journal yesterday. I lose track of time like crazy. The other day I even put off eating so I could get those last few sentences down. Yeah. An hour later I realized that I was starving and it was time to eat. The end. No excuses. It was kinda awesome.

My manic glee at my current writing project aside, I ordered the newest book by Sherrilyn Kenyon the other day. It's set in her Dark-Hunter universe but it's in the Young Adult genre. I loved the last book I read that followed this formula (The Darkest Powers trilogy by Kelley Armstrong which is set in her Otherworld universe) so I have pretty high hopes for this book. That might not make sense since they're written by different authors, but Kelley Armstrong set the bar high with Chloe's story and I fully expect Sherrilyn Kenyon to do her part in keeping me happy on the reading front.

Well, I got a decent nap in today in preparation for a late night writing. Yes, my world revolves around when I can get a few hundred words down in Word. You know, I'm okay with that.

Things I have done today (in no particular order except how they pop into my head...):
1. I ended up writing 1100 words last night on the burning plot bunny. Closed out a chapter, jumped into the next. Got help for the girl, gave the guy a big dose of guilt. Next up: Get the girl fixed up and out into the world, have some deep, dark misunderstandings between her and everyone else and make the big guy angry that he wasn't more observant.

Okay, so technically, this didn't happen today, but ... it's my writing. I can write about it.

2. Went with H to her first round of off-site physical therapy. It was more for emotional support than anything else. You know, because she didn't know where she was going (literally) and I have such a fabulous sense of direction. There was a heap of sarcasm as I wrote that last part. Because I GET LOST EVERYWHERE! FOR SERIOUS! However, in this instance we didn't get lost and I even directed us in the mostly correct direction. Rock on!

3. Finished reading the coveted 100th book for the year. Which means that I've reached my goal. What am I going to do over the next 6+ months?
Book #100 - Black Hills by Nora Roberts - If you have nothing nice to say about Nora Roberts' books you can at least mention that they're well written. They're engaging. They're fun. You get into the swing of reading one and have a hard time putting it down. And this is a very, very good thing.

Fortunately for me, this was a good book. Lil and Coop were dynamic. They both had issues to work through and they both did exactly that. Plot? Childhood friends Lil and Coop grew up and fell in love in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Time and pride and the different paths their lives were heading made them part ways, but neither has forgotten the other. When Coop settles back into the old homestead to help his grandparents out, he and Lil begin to rekindle the feelings they've never let go of. To make things super exciting, a serial killer is targeting Lil and the animals she protects at her wildlife refuge. Because working through a decade of broken hearts and bruised feelings isn't hard enough. Two thumbs up.

4. Shipped Cole off to his friend's house for the night. That means I can put in a late night writing session without bitching at the boy to turn down the TV, dammit, because I can't concentrate.

5. I did end up watching Iron Man last night, btw. Loved it! I'm totally looking forward to having an IM/IM2 marathon once the second comes to DVD. That will completely blow my mind. With explosions. And shiny things. And Tony Stark. Yum.

And that is all.
Move along. Move along.

I have the funniest piece of dialog running through my head right now. If I could find a way to work it into the burning plot bunny that's eating a hole through my brain I TOTALLY WOULD! It's all about what exactly constitutes sex in different cultures. I'll cut this so as not to offend delicate eyes, although it's not really explicit, but still ... )

And this just proves that I'm going to end up writing porn, oops, erotica in the near future. It was all those bodice ripping romance novels I read in my youth! They warped my fragile mind and make me think of things in terms of literary sex. AWESOME!

In news that does not involve talks about boy parts, I totally saw Iron Man 2 today and I think I kinda love it! I'm planning on watching the first movie tonight. I have to say that IM2 was completely what I was expecting it to be. It was loud, shiny, pretty, fast, and Tony Stark was perfect. Loved it!

In the land of the aforementioned burning plot bunny, I've written over 8000 words and I'm only half way through chapter 3. Holy crap! No, I haven't written anything today. Yet. The night's still young. Or maybe it's not even night yet. Whatever. I have time. I plan on writing. After I watch Iron Man. Excellent.

Alright. I've got things to do. Very, very important things.
Later.

I am currently making plans to see Iron Man 2 tomorrow. *high five* I'm a teeny, tiny bit excited because I have a little bit of love with the trailer when Tony sticks his hands in the portable suit and it crawls up his arms and body and he's all IRON MAN! Yes, I know that sometimes I need to get out more. Whatever. I'm cool with myself.

Speaking of getting out more, I wrote a measly 500+ words on the burning plot bunny today. I really meant to get more writing done over the weekend but it didn't happen. However, I'm happy to say that I've written every day since the burning plot bunny forced me to start writing it. That makes me happy.

Cole and I went up the pool for a bit today. I did some serious sunscreen slathering. I am committed to making sure I stay pale this summer.

Okay. I'm done. I have some writing to do. :)

I went with [livejournal.com profile] malkovich03 to her mom's house for a barbecue today and I might (or might not) have done some drunken tweeting. I'm just saying. Once again, I'm not actually saying this happened, but here's the proof on both my twitter and Mal's (the latter was when I totally stole her phone and tweeted without her knowledge).

I'm extremely tired right now, so this is probably going to be short.

I wrote another 500 or so words this morning on the burning plot bunny. It's definitely moving forward with leaps and bounds. Hopefully tomorrow I'll close out chapter 3 and get a start on chapter 4. Lacey was given the first half of chapter 1 to read just because I needed someone to share it with. Hopefully she'll remember that it's in her car.

*blink, blink*

Tiredness setting in with a vengeance. My fingers are beginning to refuse to hit the correct keys. That's never good.
I'm out.
