Holy smokes. Today was the biggest waste of a day I've had in a good long while. I slept in a bit this morning and didn't get up to walk the dogs until almost 8. That's really late for me. Really late. Then I had to get Cole ready for his jaunt to Carmel with his dad. He left here at 10. My mom and I ran some errands and suddenly it was after 1 and I'd done practically nothing. Of course that meant that I had to take a nap. So I did. Because I rock like that.

Now? I've had dinner and opened up Word and done pretty much nothing else.

Yikes.

Oh, except that I've watched up through episode 10 of Veronica Mars season 1. That's something. I guess. I'm also edging toward finishing the book I'm reading. That shouldn't surprise anybody though.

Randomly, I have this bizarro-world iTunes playlist going that I like to crank while I'm writing my kinky werewolf novelette. It's a bunch of bands that I've recently started listening to and the songs don't really go together or anything. But they're damn fun and they make me do the writing thing.

Tomorrow's Cole's birthday. He's going to be 11. It's so weird. I'm sure he was only turning 6 last year. Or maybe it was 10. Whatever. My mom asked me what I was doing 11 years ago today and I was all "I don't know. Sweating because we were in the middle of a heat wave. And I was probably uncomfortable and swollen and just wanted the kid out." I have no idea why she asked that today. I mean, it's not like I was in labor or anything. That happened in the middle of the night. 11 years ago tonight.

I'm still in denial that it's been that many years. Surely someone calculated incorrectly and he's only 6. Or 7. Maybe 8.

Anyway. I'm going to see if Cole wants to see The Last Airbender tomorrow. Mostly because I think it looks super cool. I loved the cartoon. Cole and I watched every episode and I'm curious as to how the movie will compare.

Now I'm done.
I think.

I've re-watched through episode 8 of Veronica Mars season 1. Some of the eps aren't great, outstanding, fantabulous, but for the most part they make me damn giddy. I may not care for the main sleuthing story in every ep, but there's always these little nuggets of insight hidden away that make me sit up and take notice. Basically, anything that involves Logan and Veronica being in close proximity. Even when they're going for the jugular. They just spark off of each other so damn brightly. *sigh*

I got a teensy bit of the writing done today. Teensy. I blame it on the holiday.

Wish I could have written more today, but I'm pleased to have broken 25K.

I did finish a book amidst all the VM watching and non-writing.
Book #120 - Personal Demons (Megan Chase #1) by Stacia Kane - I picked up this book after reading [livejournal.com profile] katikat's review. It sounded fun. And different. It turned out to be both. Awesome. I liked the idea that everyone has a "devil on their shoulder", only in this universe it's a personal demon. When Dr. Megan Chase's new radio show bills her as being able to "slay your personal demons", the demons take offense and begin to wage war on her. She's being recruited by different factions within the demon realm without exactly understanding everything that's happening and suddenly a dark presence from her past is putting in it's bid to claim her for itself. She picks up a demon lover, a dogged reporter and a witch who could be a friend along the way. I've already started the second in the series.

Apparently the fireworks are about to start.

I popped season 1 of Veronica Mars in earlier just because. I forgot how much I loved the first season. Just. Wow. Wow. Wow. The pilot episode. The Logan/Veronica hatred that morphs into full on lustiness. Two thumbs up!

I also wrote a bit ...

The bulk of that was done before noon. Which is nice. However, then I did the whole VM thing and didn't get much writing done after. Whoops. Easily distracted, that's me!

I did a little reading ... can you guess who the author is?
Book #118 - Down and Dirty by Moira Rogers - Another series of short stories. Wild Card is set in a time after a great war has decimated the human population and most technology has been cast aside, the werewolves live in relative harmony with the humans. Alpha Jack Owens and independent rancher Ginny Howard clash constantly. He craves her, she doesn't want to join the pack. A night of steamy sex and a set of rogue wolves determined to push Ginny off her land, leaves Jack with no choice but to claim her. Fun, quick and a nice little journey into a wild west universe. Calling the Bluff puts Hazel, a female werewolf about to enter her first heat, up against Oliver, the lone wolf widower who doesn't quite understand why Hazel is interested in him. When they get caught out alone and she goes into full heat, Oliver vows to make sure she's taken care of. In more ways than one. I liked that the framework for this story was laid out in #1 and it played out well. Ante Up gives us the Pack Beta Thomas, solid, steady and dependable, and Lottie, proprietor of one of the local whore houses who's looking for passion. A stolen kiss shows Lottie that she might be dismissing him without giving him a chance. A fire, a missing girl and some hot loving round out this story. Sweet.

-and-

Book #119 - Some Like it Haunted (Mystic Valley/Carnal Powers #2) by Moira Rogers - This book really had no relation to the first Carnal Powers book which is a pity since I really liked those crazy supernaturals. However, it did have a hot, powerful medium and a saucy, intellectual, almost magically-nil professor who are investigating a haunted house. Not bad, by any means. I was just hoping to get more face time with Lars, Claire, Kiara and Adrian.

So, there. I hope to get a little more writing done tonight. If I can just get that darn Veronica Mars off my TV.
Later.

I'm in kinda a bitchy mood this morning and I don't know why. Anyone? Anyone? Yeah. It'll pass.

Bailey barfed in the middle of my bed this morning. It was gross. There is much blanket washing currently going on.

I'm too grumpy to journal right now. Really, you'd think I'd know better than to try this when I'm feeling a wee bit murderous.

I'm out. Later.

PS - Firefly or season 1 of Veronica Mars? I can't decide what I'm in the mood for.

I had a urge today. An urge to watch Veronica Mars season 1. So I went with it. I watched the first 4 eps. Hee! FUN! I started the 5th ep but my TV has been hijacked by the boy. However, I'm about to stage a coup and take it back. You know, once I finish this.

Working on Saturday really kills my weekend. I didn't get to sleep in any day this week. I'd like to mention that sleeping in in my family means sleeping until 7:30. I swear to you that I was up before 7 everyday this week except today. And today I was up by 7:20. Ye, Gods! I'd like some rest. Please.

Okay. Time to take my TV back. :)

Holy crap! I hadn't finished a single book thus far this month. That's terrible. Terrible! However ...
Book #30 - Morgawr (The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara Book 3) by Terry Brooks - As a general rule I've enjoyed all the books in the Shannara series. This one was no different. I probably should have gone back and read the first 2 in this particular series before jumping in with both feet (especially considering I read them more than a year ago ... more like 2 years ago), but I liked it. Even though it took me a bit before I remembered who was who. Shannara! Woot!

I spent a whole lot of quality time today with my mom and grandma. We went shopping at Costco and Trader Joe's and had a nice lunch at Eric's Deli. Nice. Speaking of Costco. I scored Supernatural season 2 for a mere $18.99. Sweet. I also picked up Veronica Mars season 3 (also for $18.99), I Am Legend (2 disc collector edition!) and The Abyss (love that movie!). All in all, a pretty good shopping day.

Of course, all that movie buying means that I had to rearrange my dvds. Honestly, I look for any excuse to do that. I also had 3 books that were hanging out without a permanent home and I did some minor rearranging of the new bookcase to get them where they needed to be. I'm obsessed with that bookcase.

I'm done now. I'm going to read my 31st book tonight. Just kidding. It'll take me a day or two. :)

I watched the season premiere of Chuck earlier. Yes, I'm a little behind. I didn't actually plan on starting to watch it but I kept hearing positive flist buzz so I gave it a try. I like it. *nods* It reminds me (totally, absolutely, completely) of Jake 2.0. Okay, not totally, but close enough. I still like it.

I'm going to take a moment to talk about Moonlight. Well, I liked the main character guy and I liked Sophia Myles, but Jason Dohring's character... blech. He was so annoying. You know, he was cute when he did the same shtick on VM but it completely didn't fit here. Sadly, I think he's an awesome actor and they didn't give him much to work with. Plus, what's with his extreme paranoia and yet he has a bimbo whore chick that he randomly drinks from. As someone who truly enjoys the vampire genre and is willing to overlook a lot, that just didn't work for me. In conclusion, they're going to have to do something radical to bring me back from the brink here. Something where JD gets to act and that cute main character guy hooks up with Sophia Myles. Is it bad that I didn't bother to learn anyone's name? Wait. Mick, Beth and Joseph. See, I have skills.

I still feel yucky, but not like the grim hand of death is reaching for me anymore. Good thing, too. I was sick of being sick. Admittedly, my head was killing me today and I'm so stuffed up that I think breathing through the nose is a fairy tale, but I don't have full body aches today. That's good. The really funny thing is that my ears are all cottony because my nose is stuffed up and I couldn't understand a thing that people were saying to me on the phone at work. I think I asked people to repeat things more today than ever before in the HISTORY OF MAN. True story.

Wow. I just sneezed a lot. Many, many times. I think that's a sign that it's time to go to bed. *nods* Surely it is.

Book #40 - Un Lun Dun by China Mieville - First off, China Mieville is a man not a woman, as I erroneously concluded from his name. Sorry, Mr. Mieville. In my head, China is a girl's name. Okay. This book is wonderful. It's very ... I'm not sure how to describe it. It has the weirdness of Alice in Wonderland but it's less fantastical without being less fantastical. Wait. That didn't make any sense. It's more modern. It's more fascinating. It's strange and wonderful. I'm kinda hoping that although the main plotline was tied up this world is revisited. I mean, it was left very open for a sequel and I'd definitely be first in line if one was written. You know what? The book's good. End of story. But not the end of the story. I hope. I mean ...

I'm just going to move along.

I vaguely remember a week or two ago announcing in a very snooty voice that I was all caught up on my TV watching. Yeah. I'm not anymore. Not by a long shot. I have episodes of Veronica Mars (3) which I'm not sure I'm going to be watching for a while. I'm ... I don't know what I am anymore in regards to VM. I have the season finale for Blood Ties. I have ... stuff. Lots of stuff.

And I think I'm proud of it.

Finally, I'm hot. Not sexy-hot, hot-hot. The house refuses to cool down. It's gross.

Cole wants to play on the computer. :)

PS - My sister is annoying me with all her phone-talking lately. Get off the phone!

Hmm ... I appear to have missed another day of journalling. Oops. I was planning on jumping online last night after VM, but I have no shame when it comes to fanfic )

Anyway. I finished Night Games by Christine Feehan which brings my total for the year up to 9/50. Not too shabby. I'm going to sneak another book in before the end of my vacation, also. Why? Because I totally can.

In the land of fandom, I'm all caught up on Jericho (which is good since it comes back tonight) and I've started watching Bones season 2. Bones = endless love! Seriously, so good. For the record, I'm not talking about that Brooke Shields movie. (And, yes, I just IMDB-ed it.)

I made banana bread last night. My banana bread is so wonderfully awesome it could stop traffic and make the world a better place. Alas, I am unable to let it's super-awesomeness into the general public because the world just isn't ready for it yet. *sigh* So yummy.

And finally ... I had a meeting I had to go to this morning. Yes, I am so dedicated to my job that I went to a meeting while on vacation. Cole had to tag along since I had no one to watch him. I'm sure he was thrilled and excited to be there. Yeah.

And that is all.

Good golly. It's been a long week. And it's only Wednesday. *laments* I kinda sorta missed the last 5 minutes of Veronica Mars and I feel a little out of sorts because of it. I was dealing with a work issue and was a wee bit distracted. I'm also so tired right now it's funny. I guess it a good thing that I don't watch any shows live tonight. My brain stopped functioning while Cole was reading to me. Which is no reflection on his reading itself, but rather a statement about how tired I am. *nods*

Anyway. I may have to work six days this week. Suck.

This journal is all over the place. I'm also making a lot of stupid spelling errors. Funny.

Oh, and my iPod was acting up this morning. It froze up on me. How annoying. I couldn't listen to my music while driving to work. I had to listen to some morning show on the radio. Gag me.

I'm seriously tired.
Out.

So, Cole ended up being way sick. Gross sick. Throwing up repeatedly sick. It wasn't as fun as you might think. I was doing laundry at 11 last night. While trying not to gag. Yeah, the glamorous life of a mom. The good news is that he's better today. I guess he threw up all the bad stuff. *shrug* I also dosed him with the old standby of tea and toast. Seriously, that combo cures nearly all ills.

All this doing nothing has wiped me out. Toodles.

I had to stay at work late. Yuck.

Today on my lunch, [livejournal.com profile] ebarnon and I went to the giant Best Buy at Santana Row. It was ... awesomely huge. Yes, I've been there before but it was lovely and so close to the new branch. Tee-hee. Eric also poured a bucket of cheese grease out of his bean burrito. Gross. Ha! I finally get to use my "bean burrito" tag again. I've been waiting for so long.

I watched the second episode of Heroes last night (I kinda/sorta/not really watched the first episode last week but ended up slightly lost due to the kinda/sorta/not watching) and thought it was very good. I'm downloading the first two eps so that I can get all caught up.

Somebody ask me what I ate for dinner! Okay! Bacon and avocado and ice cream. Not all at the same time. In fact, none were at the same time. That's what happens when I work late. Weird dinners.

Veronica Mars is on in a few. Yes, I did already watch the ep, but I'm excited to watch it on the big TV screen.
Toodles.

*waves wildly* I watched the Veronica Mars season 3 premiere last night. I liked it, but I'm really looking forward to watching it on the TV. It wasn't even full computer screen size, so it was teeeeeennnnnnny-tiny. Teeny.

Also, the new layout on Bay 12 uses caps from the opening credits, so if you're avoiding anything that has to do with VM until it actually airs, don't look. Seriously.

Cole and I are going to pizza with my branch tonight. It's kinda a going away party for me and some of the others that will be leaving shortly. Oh, and one of my tellers made me a thank you card where she DREW Coco from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. So awesome!

I have things to do and people to kill. What? I didn't say that. Really.

I was so insanely hungry earlier that I HAD to go to Burger King and get a Whopper Jr. Damn, that was a good burger. It filled me up and made me happy. :P Of course, this means that I won't be hungry for lunch but that happen more than I like to admit so we'll just move along ... okay? Okay.

I finished watching The Chronicles of Narnia last night. I enjoyed it quite a bit, despite [livejournal.com profile] ebarnon's scathing comments about how bad it was going to be. Well, pfft, Eric. Pfft. I liked it. The boy who played Edmund was very good. He could do things with a look that most adult actors can't do with full body movement and well-written lines. Now, I'm not trying to imply that none of the other children where good, but Edmund (is that how you spell it?) stood out. Oh, and Tilda Swinton? She's freaky looking in every movie I've seen her in. Every.Single.One.

Also, Veronica Mars was very fun to watch. random comments ahead )

I guess I need to work.

I haven't been online today. Wow. I think I logged on this morning (very, very briefly) and then wandered away to play pick-up-stix in my own little world. *shrug* One day away from the internet won't make my brain scream in denial and pain (because of the withdrawal, you know) so I'll ignore it and maybe it'll go away. What? It doesn't make sense? Yeah, it doesn't really make sense to me either.

I went to Best Buy* today. My credit card is quietly weeping in the corner because of the way I abused it. But I had things to buy. Cool things. Neat things. Things that make me smile. Too bad nothing I bought is for me.
*please note that I have finally broken down and added a 'best buy' tag.

I have a cool, new, animated (the first animated icon ever added to my user icons) Veronica Mars icon made by [livejournal.com profile] heather13. Mmmm ... pretty. Plus, Veronica and Logan sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G. Or, not kissing but cute arm punching. Whee!

I think I'll peruse my flist tomorrow. I'm feeling sassy tonight. Plus, I want to watch the second half of last night's The Triangle before I tape tonight's. Alternately, I'd like to watch Weevil and Logan beat the crap out of one another.

Oh, yeah. I woke up at 5:30 this morning. Like, ZING - I'm wide awake. It was weird.

Now, I'm going to turn to my trusty flist to HELP ME! I really, really want the version of Crimson and Clover that played during Logan's sad scene on the boat at the end of M.A.D. I can't find it. I looked at iTunes and they have soem kooky Dolly Parton version (thank you, but no) and a couple of other versions but those didn't sound quite right to me. So, help. Please. Anyone? I'll offer up a couple of songs in trade. *smiles quite becomingly*

Dammit! My plan to watch Veronica Mars has been foiled by my old DVD player (which I gave to my mom a while back because it pulls shit like this without warning!). It simply refuses to play certain discs. Without rhyme or reason.
DVD player - "Oh, I'll play disc 3 for you, Kel. But don't even think about putting in the 4th."
me (whining very unbecomingly) - "But I wanna watch disc 4!"
DVD player - "Life's tough. Suck it up. I'm in charge. No disc 4."
me - "Fucker."
DVD player - "You kiss your mother with that mouth?"
me - "No."
DVD player - "Good. And I'm still not playing that disc."
me - "This is why I got rid of you, you know! It's because you suck! You suck! I'm going to my room. That DVD player is good! It wasn't spawned in the fiery pits of HELL!"
DVD player - "Whatever."
me - "Arggggh!"
In conclusion, I'll be sequestered in my room for the rest of the day (until I have to pick up Cole from school) watching VM.

Take that, evil DVD player.

Peppermintini? Check.
A house that's the same relative temperature as Hoth? Check.
6 episodes of Veronica Mars today? Check.
Raining like a son of a gun outside? Check.

Seriously, I don't think I did much of anything after 10:30 today. Although I did do a lot prior to 10:30. Anyone up for a recap? Well, okay! I got up, showered, dressed myself and the two kids, got the kids some breakfast, took Cole to school, took Hailey to school, went to Target and was at work by 8:30. I stayed there for 2 hours and came home wherein I proceeded to veg out. Wait. I did do some fun computer stuff. Actually, I don't think I'd call it "fun". It was more along the lines of getting rid of our old power strip for something newer, shinier and much bigger. I did get to plug a lot of things in. Let's face it, that's always fun. Always. Oh, and I wrapped some Christmas presents. Wow. I did do a lot today. Even if you don't count those 6 episodes of VM.

A question was put to me today by one of my coworkers. He said, "Kel, did you write anything in the month of November?" My reply ... "Umm, no. Wait. I did write a completely senseless page of nothing one day. So, yes. Yes, I did." I don't think he believed me. This would of course be referring to NaNoWriMo and the novel that wasn't.

Damn. I think that Peppermintini is making me a little tipsy. Wooooo. It's going to be a fun night! What with the drunken Prison Break watching and all. Hee!

Hey! Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] lady_m2835. I hope you had a wonderful and eventful day. *sloppy, slightly tipsy kisses to you*
Okay. This is me saying 'bye!

Psst. This is a new icon I made. I like it.
