soulswallo: (Stock-Book-Once upon a time)

I totally got my hair re-done today. I told my stylist that I wanted more red than last time. I swear the dye was pomegranate red when she was putting it on my hair. It was insanely cool. Anyway. The color mellowed out once it was rinsed but it is way in the red zone. I'd say dark red. The color of heart's blood. Or something. Here, you decide if I'm accurate with my descriptions ...

I made Hailey take the picture and, just for the record, I hate having pictures taken of myself. I always think I look like the world's biggest goober. So, excuse the stupid half-grin and the fact that I'm not wearing any makeup. But my hair is a cool color and it's in a funky state with a little flip (which I'm not sure if you can see). All in all, I'd consider this a good hair day.

So, I finished last night's book ...
Book #32 - The Good, the Bad, and the Undead (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows #2) by Kim Harrison - What can I say except that I'm loving this re-read. When a serial killer begins striking down the most powerful ley-line witches in Cincinnati, Rachel is brought in to help the human-run Bureau look at the case with an eye toward someone from the supernatural community. Of course, her investigation takes her within spitting distance of Trent, has her riling up a powerful vampire and getting in even deeper with the demon who holds her mark. Another solid story with enough tidbits about bigger things to come thrown in to keep it very interesting. I still don't care what anyone else says, I'm rooting for Rachel and Trent to give in to their animal passion somewhere down the line.

Umm, 18 books in 20 days, not counting the 2 that I read more than once. More than twice, if the truth is told. Why aren't I getting paid to read my way through life again?

Randomly, I tweaked the wallpaper I made yesterday because it wasn't quite right. The new wall is posted at [livejournal.com profile] bay12 (with the old one still up if you want to see the changes that were made) and I think it captures the feel I was going for a bit better. What the hell ... here it is ...

1280x1024 - 1280x960

Credit for the textures and such are over at my graphics journal, but there you have it! Ghostly goings on. Whoooooooooooo.

I've painted the toes on one foot but not the other. I have to take the dogs out soon, should I take them out first and look all weird with only one foot painted or do the other and let the dogs wait until they dry. Paint 'em first? Okay!

I'm done!

Dudes. My sister and bro-in-law invited my mom and me to the brewery tonight as a thank you for helping them out with the contractors and 2 beers and a plate of nachos later, I'm feeling the buzzzzzzzzz. Sweet.

Before the brewery visit I managed to finish up and post a wallpaper based on the mock-up book cover for my multi-chapter epic. It's at [livejournal.com profile] bay12 and can be found here. The more I look at it the more little tweaks I want to make (actually it's just one tweak) but I'm very pleased with how it turned out. The title of the wall is not the title of the story, nor do the other words have anything to do with the story itself (other than being definitions of paranormal type things). I'd be thrilled and delighted if you'd tell me what you think.

I also finished a book. Before the drinking. Boo-yah!
Book #31 - Dead Witch Walking (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows #1) by Kim Harrison - Guys, I love this series. I think the last time I read it was back in 2007, so it was long overdue for a re-read. This book effectively starts the story of Rachel Morgan, witch, ex-runner, bad-ass. After quitting her job with Inderland Security, Rachel finds herself with a price on her head; a death mark that has all the supernatural bounty hunters in the Cincinnati area gunning for her. Using her wits, her friends and a purse full of charms, Rachel has to find a way to remove the bounty and make her way independently. Did I mention that I love this series? Rachel is strong, sometimes hard headed and she handles the fall out from her bad decisions as coolly as ... something cool. A very fun start to a very fun series.

As much as I love the Otherworld series I had to take a bit of a break. I was on Otherworld overload. Which is cool, but hard to read around.

Okay. My typing sucks. My spelling's even worse. I'm a little afraid to read this tomorrow when I'm not wearing these sweet, sweet beer goggles.
Later!

I have a bad-ass headache right now. I am not enjoying it. Plus, it's making a teeny bit short tempered. Fun.

I have a bunch of things to say. I hope my achy head cooperates with me ...

I posted a wallpaper at [livejournal.com profile] bay12 this morning. I haven't made a wall in about a year so this feels like a red letter day already!

Cole has been driving me crazy lately. My short-temperedness isn't helping with this today. Let me tell you what's been going on recently - the thing that really kicked things off this morning was that I made breakfast for the kids. Cole got all bent out of shape when I not only made scrambled eggs (which I told him I'd be making) but also hash browns. It turns out that the boy only eats hash browns when he makes them. Umm ... whatever. He stomped up the stairs as soon as he saw the hash browns and slammed his bedroom door. This did not make me happy. I made him sit in the middle of the hallway on TIME OUT so I wouldn't explode into a million pieces. The kid is 10 and he had to sit on time out. His appalling lack of manners just bugged the hell out of me. He finally straightened up his act and came downstairs however he still refused to eat breakfast. I told him that he either ate what I made him or he wouldn't be eating at all. He chose not to eat. So he didn't eat until lunch.

*shakes head*

Besides that, he's been very needy lately. He suddenly can't go downstairs by himself. What's that about? It's not like it's the middle of the night or anything. I'm talking about the middle of the day when my mom's downstairs on the computer. I just don't.get.it.

I'm dealing with it and laying down some rules and everything, it's just frustrating that my 10 year old is acting like a kid in pre-school.

There you have it. My headache is still hanging on with claws of steel. Ouch.
I'm out.

Okay. I'm caught up on Supernatural. Well, except for the one that's on right now. But I'll watch that soon. I only have one episode of Dollhouse left to watch. This is down from the 4 I needed to watch yesterday. Yes, I watched a lot of TV today. I was really tired and didn't want to do anything. In fact, the only things I currently have on my DVR is 1 ep of Dollhouse, this week's Fringe and the shows that are on today. Considering what I had on there at the beginning of the week, that's freaking phenomenal!

By the by, Cole and I have been watching the Life After People series on the History channel and it's really, really good. It's kinda neat watching all our big cities fall and be swallowed up by nature. Anyway. If you have the chance, give it a try.

I posted a new wallpaper at [profile] bay12. Yay! I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do about my obsessive picture taking. *thinking, thinking* Yeah, I got nothing.

Well, pretty much I watched TV all day and cooked. Did I cook? No, I guess I didn't. Cutting a watermelon isn't cooking, is it?

On that note, I'm out.
Later.

Wow! Do I have a lot of stuff to talk about! Here goes ...

I added 3 new TSCC wallpapers to [livejournal.com profile] bay12. There all similar, but I liked them and had fun making them. I just wish I had more promo shots of Derek. *sigh* I really want a Derek wall.

I watched Iron Man today. Yes, I know I'm behind. Good golly, that movie is good. I might even have developed a tiny crush of Robert Downey Jr. I've never really loved him the way the rest of the world loves him (I was scarred for life by watching Less Than Zero when I was younger and have never been able to get around that mental block) so this is a little bit surprising. Cole and I had a great time talking about what was going on during the movie. I think it confused him that I knew as much about the movie as I did. I told him that I read a lot. Somehow he accepted that.

The people behind us were having a party last night. People were arriving at 2 in the afternoon. I know this because this was as my mom and I were getting home from our class yesterday. I actually hate these people. They started drinking in the evening and they were clueless about how loud they were. Imagine people jumping into a pool while screaming at the top of their lungs at 10:30 at night. My mom finally stuck her head over the fence and asked them if they could tone it down a bit. They did, but not by much.

That said, Cole woke up around midnight last night and could hear the people talking in their backyard. They were talking loudly but at least they weren't screaming in joy so it was an improvement. Anyway. He woke up, heard them talking and couldn't fall back asleep. I let him turn the TV on at 1 as I started to doze off. I woke up at 3:30 and he was still up. Yeah. I woke back up at 4:30 and I told him that he should probably try to get some sleep.

I also decided to get back to basics with the Terminator series and watched the first movie. I wanted Cole to watch it with me but he was asleep when I came in to ask him (this was at 8-ish last night, not during his insomniac hours). So, now I'm back up to episode 7 of the series. I'm impressing myself with this obsessive level of watching, I must say.

So, there you have it.
I'm out.

I added 3 new wallpapers to [livejournal.com profile] bay12. Two of them I made ages ago. One was nearly complete, I just needed to clean up a few things. *sigh* I get so lazy sometimes.

I have to stop by Cole's daycare tomorrow and talk to the director about a tiff got into with one of the other teachers. Fun.

Cole's been sucked into Avatar: The Last Airbender again. That show is pretty damn good. If I do say so myself.

Alright. I'm tapped. Later.

I posted a new (well, I made last year as a gift for [livejournal.com profile] iron_knife but never got around to giving it to him or posting it anywhere. SURPRISE!) wallpaper at [livejournal.com profile] bay12. This one's fairly tame, but we'll see about the next ones.

I fell asleep earlier ... wait. Let me back up. I had a meeting today from 8:30 to 12:30. Naturally it ran over and we didn't end up getting out of there until 1-ish. Even more naturally, I didn't go in to work after said meeting and instead came home because I have important things to do. Like nap. However, Target has their patio furniture on sale for 50-75% off. This means that my mom and I HAD to go to the big Target in Morgan Hill (conveniently located down the street from the new house) to see if they had anything good. We bought 6 chairs. They were originally $25, on clearance for $6. Rock that! We also drove by the new house and saw that they're installing the rain gutters and we have boxes of what looks to be out entryway tile, kitchen counter tile and hardwood floors in the garage. HOW EXCITING!

Then I came home and took a nap.

So, there you go. A bunch of my eBay auctions are ending within the next 24 hours. If anyone is DYING to own some Buffy graphic novels, now is the time. Down here it's our time. It's our time down here. Whoa. Goonies flashback.

I'm done now.

Cole wanted me to stay up all night to "watch over him". I'm not quite sure why. So, I've watched The Covenant 3 times today (I slept through most of one time during my afternoon nap) and made wallpapers. I also had that doozy of a journal earlier. I think my fingers went partially numb from all that typing. I know this is terribly exciting. Just go with it.

Warning: I feel like this is going to be a long-ass, rambling post. I have a lot to say. Some of it is fandom related (FNL!YAY!) and some is about the DRAMA that's been going on at my house. Also, I got an awesome email from a friend I haven't heard from practically since we got out of high school. I just might talk about that also.

FANDOM!
I finished watching Friday Night Lights last night. Good Golly! That show is gorgeous and well written. I completely see what all the love is about. I want to write about some of my reactions, but first I decided that I needed a FNL wallpaper for my desktop. So, I made one. It's not great, but it puts those pretty, pretty people on my computer. And that's exactly what I wanted.

>>Clear eyes. Full hearts. Can't lose.

I've been trying to get Hailey to say "Can't lose." after I say "Clear Eyes. Full Hearts." Sometimes she forgets what to say. It's so damn funny.

Now, reactions. Which I will cut because otherwise this post will be mondo-huge.
Can't lose )

Real life
And now for the drama. Which I will also cut because it's long. And angsty. And I'm pretty sure that I might use harsh language.
There might even be adult content )

And in other real-life news, getting an email from a high school friend that you haven't spoken to in years is all sorts of awesome. Sometimes I forget that there's life outside of my little bubble. People grow up and move on and put families together.

It's like there's a whole world out there that's just beyond my fingertips.

I might have more to say, but I'm feeling a little drained. Feel free to comment about the wonderful-ness of Friday Night Lights. I need to roll around in all the FNL love.

Also? Have an awesome day tomorrow.

Oh, yeah. My branch is having it's annual audit tomorrow. I did so much work today that my brain hurts. It.Hurts. I will be at work at 7 in the morning tomorrow. That's early. Especially since I need to drop Cole off by 6:30 to get to work by 7. Suck.

I'm afraid that I'm going to have work dreams. You know, the ones where you get buried by a mound of work-related paper or have to yell at customers or show up in your underwear. Yeah, one of those. Fun.

I think I've become a Peter/Claire shipper. I didn't mean to. Especially after finding out their relation to one another. Still, they have some damn fine chemistry onscreen. Damn fine.

Anyway. I have them both in widescreen [1280x800] but they're not uploaded. So, if you want them you gotta shout it out.

Lastly, since [livejournal.com profile] oddmonster asked with such enthusiasm, the books I recently bought from Amazon are ...
In the Company of Ogres by A. Lee Martinez
Agents of Light and Darkness, Hex and the City, and Nightingale's Lament by Simon R. Green
The Dark Flight Down by Marcus Sedgwick
Un Lun Dun by China Mieville (ps, there's a little accent over the first "e")

I also bought (recced by the lovely and talented Sepra) Eat to Live by Dr. Fuhrman because I've been looking for a good book to buy on how to eat better and she recced it at the perfect time. Serendipity, my friends. Serendipity.

I've seriously gone on long enough.

Yes, I am aware that my latest walls all have a similar look. I really like the clean lines and starkness of the white background against the color of the banner. Eventually, I'll get tired of this and turn my attention to something else. 'Tis the way of the world, I'm afraid.

My best friend is visiting with her son from Washington state (that would be BF1 for those keeping track) and Cole and I are going to meet them tomorrow morning for breakfast. Yay! Pancakes! Or maybe eggs! Or bacon! Who knows!

Once again, I also made this in widescreen [1280x800] for myself, but I'd be happy to share if anybody's looking for widescreen.

So, on top of the sick kid and the making of the art, my mom and I found time to go out and buy a 50 inch plasma TV. It was massively discounted and we honestly couldn't pass it up. The damn thing was so heavy, we could barely get it from the car to the house. And by "the house" I mean the garage. Then I announced that I couldn't carry it anymore and we'd have to wait for one of the sisters (my sisters, not a nun) to get home/stop by before it could go any farther. That said, it's now sitting pretty in the living room. And it's big. So big. So big and pretty.

Sicky McSickerson is coughing behind me. And he looks flushed again. Poor boy.
