Book #65 - Conspiracy Game by Christine Feehan - In some ways Christine Feehan's Ghostwalker series seems so much like a pale echo if her Dark series. They both have extremely Alpha-male men courting (or falling madly, deeply, truly in love with) women who want to stand up to them and want to be dominated by them. I do like the Dark series better because, well, vampires, but this series is definitely growing on me. That said, I liked Jack and Briony as a couple and I like how interconnected all the Ghostwalkers have become to one another. I did think that Briony went from being a fierce, strong female lead to someone who is described as "submissive" more than once. It was sort of sudden and jarring, but I just kind of went with it. I can do that sometimes. Which leads to ...

Book #66 - Deadly Game by Christine Feehan - This is the story of Jack's twin brother, Ken, and Briony's twin sister, Mari. You know when you have a thing that gets you every fucking time you read it? One of my fool-proof kinks is when the big, strong hero is incapacitated in some way (ie, memory loss, being buried alive for 10+ years, etc) (what? People get buried alive for years. It happens. Plus, I read a lot of vampire books. Vampires can totally survive that!) and they have to work through that incapacitation to reach some degree of normalcy. Well, Ken had been captured and tortured by some enemy or another (in Conspiracy Game no less) and now he had to find a way to get back to leading a semi-normal life. Or at least get back to being a world-class, psychic sniper who runs black-ops missions and has been genetically enhanced. Anyway. That's one of my fic kinks and this book really worked for me. The only jarring part was that I felt like Mari adjusted too quickly to being free after spending her life as a lab animal/soldier for the evil and slightly insane Dr. Whitney. I think there could have been several more chapters to this book and I wouldn't have minded. Obviously there's major set-up for later books. Hell, an entire lab full of psychic, enhanced women escaped into the great unknown. Now the Ghostwalkers will have to find them and bring them in to keep them safe from Dr. Insano. Cool.

For the record, I read #65 yesterday and #66 today. I did have to work, you know. I couldn't spend all my time engrossed in my fascinating books.

My wrist has been killing me all day today. Blah.

Did I mention that I have a camera guy coming in to the branch on Wednesday to do a bit more filming? Specifically of me interacting with my tellers and other co-workers. I have been informed, in no uncertain terms, that I have to wear a suit. I'm against this. After 15 years at the same bank it makes me feel like I'm giving in to the man or something. I've always resisted wearing a suit. I have a feeling that once I do it one time I'll be hooked. I'll be wearing one forever. There goes my knee high boots and skirts. My awesome polka dot shirt and honey-beige pants. How sad. I'll try to resist. And if I do falter, I promise to use my powers for good, not evil. I swear it. With pinkies and everything. I swear!

Cole and I watched Psych earlier. So funny!

I'm off. And, wow! This is a lot longer than I thought it would be.

Good grief, woman. You read so *fast*. I only managed to get through # 52 this morning (Larklight: A Rousing Tale of Dauntless Pluck in the Farthest Reaches of Space by Philip Reeve; I think you'd like it). You are just zipping through the world's store of literature.

First off, I like that you're now referencing Firefly quotes in your comment titles. That rocks!
Secondly, I truly appreciate the fact that you just told me that I read fast because I always think of you as this uber-reader.
Also, also, I think I might need more book recs. I'm down to the last two that I haven't read (A Stirring of Dust will be my 68th book, after the one I'm reading now) and then I'm back to re-reading some of my classics. So. Dust off your rec-ing (reccing?) fingers and send me some love.

That is, if you can tear yourself away from the wonder that is Firefly.

Hee. I think there are only two things that can tear me away from ff at this point. And book recs are one of them.

Ahem.

--The Strange Adventures of Rangergirl by Tim Pratt. I loved this book. Loved it. Loooooooooooved it, so much so that I had to physically restrain myself from flipping it back over and immediately rereading it when I finished. Turns out there's a coffeehouse in Santa Cruz that's actually a portal to another world, and one of the baristas working there is Earth's last great hope. If you dislike this book, I'll eat Badger's very fine hat.

--Crimson Rogue by Liz Maverick, is the last book in a multibook series about Crimson, a fictional post-apocalypse version of Los Angeles, being fought over by werewolves, vampires, humans and demons. There was too much romance in it for me, which I think makes it right about perfect for you. I didn't miss any of the earlier books, but you might want to backtrack. *shrug*

--See for my money, I liked Perfect Dark: Initial Vector by Greg Rucka, because it's all about the futuristic heroine kicking twelve tons of ass, without the romance. YMMV.

I have next on my reading shelf Iris, Messenger (small girl meets modern-day Greek gods), Skullduggery Pleasant (orphaned Irish heiress girl is saved by skeleton detective), and Four and Twenty Blackbirds (teenage girl wanders round South Carolina being protected by the ghosts of her three aunts while talking to all the other ghosts) and a big bucket of Dirk Pitt, because really...Dirk Pitt, man.

(Dirk Pitt!)
