I have this huge mother of a post to put up because I couldn't get online yesterday and I just have so much to talk about. FYI, my wireless network crapped out on me early yesterday morning. I tried everything I could think of to get it back up and nothing worked. Finally, in a disgusted fit, I let it be. Mysteriously this morning eveyrthing worked perfectly. I must have angered the internet gods. Fortunately, human sacrifice* still seems to appease them. Woot!
Anyway. A brief wrap up of my day.
I finished book #1 for the year. This all ties in with resolution #2, read more. I've decided on a nice placid number to shoot for. I'm going to try to read 50 books this year. If you break it down that's only a book a week (give or take) and I can totally do that. I'm actually leaning a little higher than 50 but I wanted to keep things do-able. So, 1 out of 50 books have been completed. I'm a bit undecided on what book to read next. I'm sorely tempted by Stephen King's The Dark Tower series, but that would be a re-read. I almost feel like I should read some of the books I haven't read yet. Oh, the pain of decision making.
I watched a bunch of movies yesterday after not being able to decide on my next book to read.
Deep Blue Sea - Why have I never watched this movie before? It was awesome. There was this part where Samuel L. Jackson was giving this moving speech about how the survivors of the shark attacks had to stick together if they were going to get out of this alive and I was all ... "Wow! He's totally their leader now! There's no way he won't survive! ... Umm, did he just get eaten by a shark after giving that super-awesome speech? I didn't see that coming." Seriously, I totally thought he was going to live. But no.
Snakes on a Plane - Not half as bad as I was led to believe by all the horrible reviews. Let's look at this logically ... it's about a ton of exotic snakes on a freaking plane. If you can't suspend your disbelief regarding snakes being on a plane, why are you watching the movie? It was fun. And Samuel L. Jackson got to give another moving speech about how the survivors had to stick together if they wanted to get out of this alive ... only this time he lived. Plus, I now officially have enough movies to have a Julianna Margulies-a-thon. Awesome!
Beowolf and Grendel - Incredibly slow at parts, but it more than makes up for it with the Gerard Butler eye-candy. I'm not sure if it's going to be one of those that I watch over and over, but it wasn't as horrible as, say, Alexander. I actually wanted to gouge my own eyes out halfway through that one just so I didn't have to watch any more. So, B&G ... not great, but not terrible.
The Covenant - I was contemplating watching either An American Haunting (I decided it was too scary for late at night by myself. I have to be in a certain mood for scary movies when there's nobody else in the room.), The Devil Wears Prada (I found myself in the mood for something a little mroe supernatural) or The Covenant. Obviously, The Covenant won out. Surprising good. I find myself a little enamoured of the lovely actor who played Caleb. Yum. My only problem with the movie were some of the sound effects. When they were throwing energy balls at each other in the climactic fight scene it sounded like a bad video game. Distracting? A bit. I personally think the sound effects should have been a little more subtle in that arena. That aside, I really, really liked the movie. It was fun to watch. What more can a girl ask for?
And that was my gloriously relaxing day. *wallows in the memory*
Here's to no more bad internet connections!
