I wanted to journal about the awesomeness of stepping into a San Francisco bar last night and realizing that it was Flashback to the 80s night, but I feel horrible and I can't marshal my thoughts into anything resembling coherency, so I'll have to save it for another day.

Before I talk about books, though, I want to leave you with this image: A tallish guy with a porn-'stache, a tight baby blue tank top, shorty-shorts, knee socks and a headband. Now imagine me accidentally running into him when I had to step back to avoid the puffy-skirted lady who was standing in my way, turning around to say I'm sorry and being all goggle-eyed at this guy. It was hilarious and frightening all at the same time.

Yeah. So, books.
Book #104 - The Perfect Play (Play by Play #1) by Jaci Burton - This wouldn't normally be my type of book because it's a book about sports, but it was very sexy and it totally lived up to its cover. Just to refresh your memory:

Book #105 - Ink Exchange (Wicked Lovely #2) by Melissa Marr - I adore this series. It's dark and bloody and sexy. There's something about the court of the Dark Fae that I find fascinating.
In My Mailbox (03/13/11) - I bought a lot of books this week. Oops.

I'm tired and kinda grumpy. I think I'll go watch something mindless and veg out.

Oh.My.Fucking.God. Today was the longest day EVER! *cue dramatic flailing* I was computerless all day and I literally had nothing to do at work. Everything I could have done required a computer so I sat there and read. All day. I finished two books. And part of another one. I made plans with [livejournal.com profile] oddmonster to read The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook on Monday. I'm not quite sure how we're going to work the reading together thing when we're a couple of time zones apart but I believe in the power of Twitter! I do believe in Twitter! I do! I do!

Yeah. So I'm looking forward to more uninterrupted reading time tomorrow since I still won't have a computer. I already have the next 2 1/2 books picked out.

Anyway. Books.
Book #102 - Kiss Me, Kill Me anthology - Decent enough (especially for the under-a-buck price) but the story that made it all worthwhile was Impulse Control by Susan Bischoff. I'm ready to go buy the rest of that series right now.
Book #103 - How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire (Love at Stake #1) by Kerrelyn Sparks - Definitely on the fun end of the spectrum, but the thing that stood out for me were all the Highland warriors. Delish!
Book Blogger Hop, Follow Friday & Tagalong Friday - What I'd do with $80, the essential me and how many erotic books I buy a month. Once again, [livejournal.com profile] malkovich03 gets a shout out. Those that read my book blog are going to feel like they know her with all these Lacey references I'm throwing out there.

I have one more review to write and it's just not going to happen tonight. Because a day of doing nothing leaves me sleepy. For real.
I'm out.

Hey, guys! It's Eric's birthday today. I don't even think he does the LJ thing anymore but I'm such an awesome friend that I text messaged him to tell him he's a loser for not reading any books yet this year AND I'm posting it here!

Happy birthday, Dude! May your day be filled with people who don't smell like either cats or onions. At the same time or separately. I write this because I CARE! Happy non-smelling birthday!

So. Work today. It was easy. Epically so. I finished two books that I'd started the other day and read two new ones. That's four books, guys. FOUR! I get paid to read. How awesome is that?!?!

Since I'm on the subject- Books.
Book #86 - The Sevenfold Spell by Tia Nevitt - A fast, fun take on the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale. Only the heroine is a kinda trampy girl who's incredibly ordinary.
Book #87 - Reunion (Vampires Realm) by Felicity Heaton - Sexy vampires! You gotta love that. Another fast and fun read with some blood and guts thrown in for good measure.
Book #88 - Steam & Sorcery (Gaslight Chronicles) by Cindy Spencer Pape - Oh, wow. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There's steampunkery, knights, magick and supernatural critters. It was just this awesome blend of all those things with a love story about a knight and a governess as the icing on the cake.
On My Wishlist (week 23) - The Bargain Hunter's (3rd) Edition. With books (mostly) under $3.

I have one more review to write but I was starting to get a little goofy and had to step aside before I wrote crazy, crazy stuff.

And now I'm done.

Rough night last night, guys. Roooough night. I got a few hours of sleep before I hauled my butt off of Lacey's couch and dragged myself home. Then I slept for 3 or so hours. I took a shower first, though, so I had a serious case of bedhead from falling asleep with my hair wet. Awesome.

Anyway, since I slept most of the day away, I really don't have anything fun and exciting to write about. I didn't even do much bookish stuff today. Well, actually I finished a book, but I haven't written the review yet, so... yeah. We'll just save that for tomorrow.

Book stuff:
In My Mailbox (01/16/11) - It was a slow week on the free download front. *is sad*

I'm done.
I'm thinking about getting something to eat, but that seems like a lot of work right now.

I'm heading out in a few minutes to meet up with the BFF. The words "dive" and "bar" were used to entice me. Lol!

So, book stuff:
Book #25 - Lover Eternal (Black Dagger Brotherhood #2) by J.R. Ward - And I thought the first book was good!?! I love the characters J.R. Ward has created here. They are fantastic!
Book #26 - Lover Awakened (Black Dagger Brotherhood #3) by J.R. Ward - I stayed up until last night reading this one. I finished book 2 and literally picked the next one up and went to town on it. So to speak. And this one was even better than the 2nd!

And that's it, guys.
I do not promise not to drunken tweet tonight. Sometimes it just happens, you know. On the other hand, maybe there will be no tweeting. We'll see.

Okay. I'm out.

Okay, guys. I have a story to tell you. It's not terribly, terribly exciting unless you know how awful I am at directions. If you do know, you'll be laughing your ass off because this is so classic fucking me that it's hilarious.

Here goes: I had what you could call a job interview today. In Palo Alto. This is about 45 minutes away from where I live. My best friend (lj user="malkovich03"> happens to work in Palo Alto so I *kinda* know my way around. Oh, who am I kidding? I can find my way from the freeway to her work. If the planets align and if I'm lucky.

So I talked Eric into going with me because I really do have a horrid sense of direction and I didn't want to get lost and end up being late to an interview. We're cruising along in Palo Alto and I'm like... "LOOK! That's Lacey's bank! This is so exciting! Maybe if I flail my arms like an idiot and shriek loudly she'll know I'm nearby!" For the record, she didn't know. Apparently I didn't shriek loud enough.

I think I need to add at this point that I didn't have actual directions to the place we were trying to get to. I has the address and a page of hand scrawled directions consisting of left on El Camino, rt on whatever. I kinda figured that as long as I had my phone, which has GPS in it, everything would be fine.

Yeah. No. That's not what happened. We ended up in some janky part of town and had to turn around and the street we turned down to turn around on had some guy sleeping in the back of his truck with his legs sticking out. I'm like... "Dead body. Dead body. Dead body." It was weird and off-putting.

Anyway. I cranked up my GPS (FINALLY!) and we had to backtrack to the street that Lacey's bank is on. Because the guy's office is right down the street from the fucking bank. I kid you not. I was so excited that I recognized a landmark that I totally didn't check the street name. *face palm*

I made it there in plenty of time, in case you're wondering. I was even able to go score a cup of coffee, which was sorely needed at that point. I also got to see the delectable Lacey and she made me laugh so hard I think I almost cracked a rib. damnyouautocorrect.com ... that's all I'm going to say about that.

As for the interview. I think it went well. It's something very different than what I did before so there's that. Otherwise, I won't know anything until next week. No, I'm still not thrilled to be diving back into a normal job, but I'll get over it. I have a plan, you know. A good plan that involves working for myself eventually. I'll just have to make it happen.

After all that... Book stuff!
Book #24 - Personal Demons (Personal Demons #1) by Lisa Desrochers - I had a lot of fun writing this review. I was able to wax poetic about my love of bad boys. Yum.
Book Blogger Hop & Follow Friday (01/14/11) - I don't even know how I rambled as much as I did. *shakes head*

As a random aside, I've had several of my reviews linked by some of the authors who wrote the books and it's such a thrill to have someone I admire thank me for reading their books. It makes me giddy.

My dog is snoring. Ha!

Okay. I'm done now.

Oh, [livejournal.com profile] bangaboomerang, I wanted to wish you a happy belated birthday! I'm sorry I'm late. Forgive me?

It's Christmas Eve and Cole's playing his video games while I wander aimlessly around the web looking for something to keep me awake. What? I didn't get my nap today. It was tragic.

The fam went to Amber and Phil's for dinner. We honestly didn't do much. I had a drink. We played with the baby. We ate. We came home. That's the most unexciting thing to write ever. Boring.

Anyway. One last thing before I drag Cole in here to watch a movie with me.
Book #281 - Bloodfever (Fever #2) by Karen Marie Moning - Holy Hannah! This is a good series.

And now I'm done.
Sleep well. Keep an eye out for that red-clad guy who likes to sneak into houses!

I did a big fat lot of nothing today. Seriously. I made a run out to the mall with Amber to help her with the rest of her Christmas shopping. I finished a book, read another and picked up an ARC for review. I actually finished the ARC but I don't want to review it until the cover is finalized. Hopefully that'll be soon, but if not I'll just have to read this delightfully naughty book again.

So, yeah. A whole lotta nothing. I have oodles of wrapping to do and absolutely no urge to do it. I have a few movies I want to watch. I should really, really get back to looking for a job or finding a writing job that makes me money. The second one is the one I'm leaning toward, in case you're wondering. Because holding down a real job makes my insides quiver in a nauseous debilitating way. Not cool.

So. Books.
Book #273 - Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble (Jolie Wilkins #1) by H.P. Mallory - Total shout out to [livejournal.com profile] malkovich03 half way down. Because I'm cool like that.
Book #274 - Club Shadowlands (Masters of the Shadowlands #1) by Cherise Sinclair - While I'll be the first to admit that I like books that explore the kinkier side of sex, especially the Dom/sub relationship, I thought this book was absolutely outstanding. Sexy and full of heart. Wonderful!

Okay. I have things to do. Like hunt down another candy cane.

Today was the Annual Holiday Party hosted by myself with the lovely [livejournal.com profile] jenah, [livejournal.com profile] kimbrchick and [livejournal.com profile] malkovich03 putting in an appearance. The power went out at my house this morning due to the torrential rain and wind that we were getting. I was a little afraid that we were going to be powerless all day, but everything righted itself and the power came on about 20 minutes before the ladies got there.

We went to lunch at a sports pub and I had the onion rings that make your taste buds sing. They are so freakishly good. I never order onion rings but I just can't resist those beauties. We drank mimosas and watched Inception afterward which was pretty cool but convoluted enough that I feel like I need to watch it again. Jenn, Kim and I also watched a few episodes of Vampire Diaries since Jenn was way behind on that.

So. Cool stuff. Plus I have some book stuff.
Book #272 - Arctic Shift (Denali Shifters #1) by Lissa Matthews - A book without conflict isn't terribly interesting.
In My Mailbox - Free books from Amazon, free books from All Romance, free books from Carina press, books I won, and books I bought. Pretty much an awesome week.

Okay. I'm off to nudge my boy off to bed.

Okay. Cole and I met up with Bff #1 and her husband to see Tron last night. I liked the movie. I'm going to say that first off. I liked it. However, I did think that it was a little too long. Maybe that was just because we saw a 10:15 showing and we didn't get out of the theater until 12:30. I was tired at that point. There were some slow talky-parts in the movie that really dragged it down. Once again, that might just have been the lateness of the evening talking. I loved the light cycle/light flyer scenes. Those were just fun. I thought the ending was LAME. If I was going to see my first sunrise, I hope it would look better than that piece of crap one there. Over all, I liked the movie. They could have edited out a good 20 minutes of it to keep me a little more engaged but I'm not complaining too much. I was also happy that I didn't get a headache watching the 3D stuff. Always a bonus.

Anyway. Book stuff.
Book #271 - Ill Wind (Weather Warden #1) by Rachel Caine - It took me a while to get into it, but I ended up enjoying it.
On My Wishlist (week 15) - Liz Maverick's Crimson City series and Gini Koch's Katherine "Kitty" Katt series.

I'm sleepy. Perhaps I will go bust out my yummy coffee so I don't conk out too early.

Oh, man. I got my hair cut and colored today and my stylist always blows it out and puts all this crap in it. It looked fine until I laid down for a nap. Now I have a huge bubble of hair clinging oddly to the top of my head. Hahaha! I'm so glad no one can see me right now.

My sisters and I are planning out our time to finish up our Christmas shopping. It looks like Amb has claimed a few hours from me on Friday and a large portion of the day on Monday. Friday night I'm meeting my BFF Megan at the movies. Cole's tagging along for that. We're seeing Tron Legacy. I saw the original in the theater although there are some people who refuse to believe me when I say that. Saturday, Heather and I are heading out to get those last few things we need to pick up together.

Hopefully I can get it done over those 3 days and not have to think about buying things any more!

Books stuff:
Book #265 - Lord of Devil Isle by Connie Mason - I get to talk about scurvy and how seamen (ha!) always have all their teeth in historical romances.
Book #266 - Sweet Disgrace by Cherrie Lynn - Blistering sex doesn't mean literal blisters. I'm just sayin'. Also, sexy demons who lust after sweet angels are kinda hot.
Book #267 - Fated (Doomsday Brethren #1.5) by Shayla Black - A short story that pulls the Doomsday arc along.

And now I'm done.

Things of note: I did not have a wardrobe fail today. In fact, I dressed completely (including ALL my underwear) and went out to do some Christmas shopping. I even wore shoes. Guys, this is like the most epic thing ever. I wore shoes and underwear AT THE SAME TIME! No, no, hell didn't freeze over. I checked.

I also managed to fire off an email to [livejournal.com profile] jenah, [livejournal.com profile] kimbrchick and [livejournal.com profile] malkovich03 about our annual holiday gathering. WHICH IS THIS SUNDAY AND I WAS SO DAMN SLOW GETTING THE EMAIL OUT THAT I FEEL LIKE A TOOL! So, uhh, guys, if you haven't checked ye olde email yet, you might want to do that. Okay? Thanks.

I have a little bit of the book stuff:
Book #264 - The Ghost Hunter by Lori Brighton - I really liked this book and yet my review is so short. I don't get it. I liked it. I promise.
I finished another book this morning but I'm not feeling the snark at the moment and the review was like reading bad fanfic. You know, stilted and wooden. So I saved it to finish tomorrow. I am all about being flexible. Or something.
Teaser Tuesday - Ghosts and Witches (a book I'm not 100% behind at this point), Magic (read 2 pages so don't yet have an opinion) and Djinn (I think I like it).

So, yeah. I've been way tired lately and I'm trying to keep myself awake just a tiny bit longer. Although I don't know why. It's not like I'm doing anything tonight that I need to stay up for. I confuse myself sometimes.

Right. So I'm off to bed.

Oops. I missed a day yesterday. I have an excuse though. I took [livejournal.com profile] malkovich03 out to dinner. Except that we drank more than we ate. *thumbs up*

Randomly, yesterday morning, Heather and I had decided that we were going to go up to San Jose to an actual mall instead of just the stores we have in Morgan Hill. We did some marathon Christmas shopping. It was epic. We got a huge chunk of our shopping done. Honestly, I didn't know I had that much shopping in me. I'm not a big shopper when it's not, you know, online. But we triumphed at the mall. TRIUMPHED!

Today, Cole had his football game and it was freeeeeeezing because the wind was whipping across the damn field as we were sitting there. Don't worry, though. I survived.

Okay. I have some book stuff.
Book #249 - Darkfever (Fever #1) by Karen Marie Moning - I was hesitant to start this series, but the sexy fae took that hesitation from me.

In My Mailbox - I bought a lot of books this last week. In my defense, I had an Amazon giftcard. *blink, blink*
On My Wishlist (week 13) - Cool giftsets I'd love to get my hands on.

Guys, it's Friday. Yeah, that pretty much means absolutely nothing to me except that my sister wants to go shopping tomorrow and the kids are underfoot for the next two days.

Have I mentioned that I need to finish my NaNo novel? Because I do. I hit that 50K plateau and immediately slacked off. This is despite vowing that I would finish the entire novel by the end of November. I suck. But I still have great plans for it and my read through a week or so ago convinced me that it's actually very good. Or at least I think so. But I wrote it, so I'm a little biased.

Hey! Do you guys remember when I was reviewing the Vampire Academy books for that re-read challenge at the end of November? Well, I won the grand prize for that which is ABSOLUTELY FUCKING AWESOME! I won a copy of Last Sacrifice (the last VA book), the Soul Screamers series by Rachel Vincent, some other books, bookmarks, and VA inspired jewelry. I'm sure I'll take pictures once I get it.

I also won another book through another contest earlier in the week that I forgot to mention. Is this is best book week ever or what?!?!

Tomorrow, I'm dragging the lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] malkovich03 out to the tree lighting ceremony for my little town. Apparently it's big deal. There's a parade and everything. We're going to either go to dinner, lunch or drinking at some point. All I know is that I want a Snakebite at some point. Mmm. Snakebite.

Okay. Book stuff.
Book #247 - Sons of Lyra: Slave Princess by Felicity Heaton - A nice, sexy sci-fi romance. I've been digging Felicity Heaton's books lately. Part of it is the extremely attractive price ($1-$3) and part of it is just the sexy. Yum.
Book #248 - The Vampire Queen's Servant (Vampire Queen #1) by Joey W. Hill - Oddly, it isn't the type of book I would have normally picked up, but I'm very glad I did.

Book Blogger Hop & Follow Friday - My answer to both parts of the post cracked me up. And they're all true. That's the funny part.

Okay. I'm out. I have to watch those Winchester boys heat up my screen.

I had a very Harry Potter day. And let me just say that HP7 was very, very good although there were a few points where I wondered when it was going to end. That's one long movie. It didn't help that Hailey was getting antsy and kept asking me how much longer it was. Or as she put it "how many more hours is this going to be on, Auntie?" Cute kiddo.

Anyway. [livejournal.com profile] jenah and [livejournal.com profile] kimbrchick journeyed to good old Morgan Hill for the viewing. We had breakfast before hand and then hit the theater. I ate a lot of popcorn. It was good.

Afterward we watched Serenity. Good movie watching day, if I do say so myself.

Book stuff:
Book Blogger Hop & Follow Friday - Pretty covers. Lots of pretty covers. yum.
30 days of books... Day 74 - Matchmaking faeries. Love it!

I'm reading a book right now that's only available online for a few more days. Basically I feel like I have to haul ass to gt it read so that I don't lose this window of opportunity.

Happy birthday, darlings!

I'm trying to finish up the 4th Vampire Academy book. And by trying I mean that I'll have it done tonight. The point in me mentioning this is that I didn't do a whole lot of anything today. I opened up Word and re-read the first 20 pages of my novel. I pretty much love it! Of course, that means I didn't do any actual writing but I can work around that.

The epic weekend in San Francisco has come to an end. I was hungover as all get today which made driving home pretty sucktastic. In fact, I'd wager that I was still drunk this morning when I woke up...but I'm getting ahead of myself.

It's my best friend [livejournal.com profile] malkovich03's birthday tomorrow. She's awesome, btw. Absolutely one of the most outstanding people ever. EVER! She's the reason I sat down and wrote novel #1 earlier this year. She pushed and pushed and pushed in the way that awesome best friends do and suddenly I was writing.

Anyway. Mal wanted to have dinner in San Francisco. So we did. It was an Italian place and the food was good. From what I remember. See, Mal ordered a bottle of wine and we split it. Have you ever tried twirling fettuccine when you're seriously tipsy? IT CAN'T BE DONE!

After dinner we went to a bar. It was super crowded. I didn't order a drink. Then most of our group went home and the four of us left went to another bar. Actually, it was just three of us. Mal went back to the hotel for a bit and joined us later.

This would be the point in the evening where my drinking downfall began. I had something with coffee, kahlua and tequila in it. What was I thinking there? I don't know. And then the Tropical Storms began. I think I had 3. Mal said 4. But since she missed the beginning of the bar part, I don't know how accurate her counting was. Anyway. We moved to the bar next door and met our waitress from the first bar. That wasn't planned. Some chick had to pound on the bathroom door to roust the three or four girls in there out so the rest of us could actually pee. That was kinda awesome. Mal made me dance with some guy. 2 o'clock rolled around. We left.

At this point I was feeling pretty good. Not falling down drunk, but definitely blurred enough that I wasn't feeling any pain. Mal decided that she wanted to go to Denny's nearly as soon as we got to our room. It rained on us as we walked over. I fell asleep on Mal's friend. I woke up and they were ready to go. *blink, blink* Yes, I did say "fell asleep".

It was 4-ish by the time we got back to the room. There was some sleeping. And by some, I mean very little because I woke up at 7:30. Now that's just wrong. That's when I realized that I was still drunk from the night before. Dude. I had to sleep in the car while Mal and her friend (we dropped Mal's husband off at the Niners game) had lunch. I felt better after sleeping a little.

Now I'm home. I've showered again, slept a little more and eaten actual food. *thumbs up*

I'm going to chalk this entire weekend up in the WIN column. I figured it was a celebration for both Mal's birthday and for me FINALLY hitting my NaNo goal after years of trying.

Anyway. Book stuff.

The Egypt project was successfully delivered to school and Cole breathed a big sigh of relief. I'm just glad it made it there in one piece. Dealing with a hysterical child over a destroyed project is nothing to laugh about. Fortunately it wasn't an issue.

Call of Duty: Black Ops comes out tomorrow. Or tonight at midnight if you're a die-hard. Cole wanted to go to the midnight release at Game Stop but I told him no. For the record, the sweet boy was asleep before 9. I have no idea how he thought he was going to stay awake until midnight. I mean, please.

Before I post my NaNo stats, here's an excerpt from an email I sent to the talented and hilarious [livejournal.com profile] oddmonster:
LOOK AT THE WAY WE HAMMER OUT THE DETAILS ON THIS! Fear us, internet and people of the publishing world, for we shall rattle your puny cages and make you QUAKE!

Why do I find that so damn funny? Why?

Okay, NaNo stats:

I didn't hit the 25K I was aiming for (I kinda thought I was aiming high, but I figured better high than low. Or something like that.) but I'll totally get it tomorrow. Totally.

I also posted a recap of the first week of NaNo, which was really more like the last two days of NaNo. Whatever. I've written a lot today. My brain is starting to do weird things.
NaNo Update: Looking back on week 1

And book stuff:
First off, I won the book Bluebeard's Machine by Mari Fee from Moira Rogers through her website. It's a steampunk novel that I thought looked amazing when it popped up on my radar a few months back and I'm so, so excited to have the chance to read it. I've been in the hugest naughty steampunk mood lately. Since I didn't even know there was such a thing as naughty steampunk until recently, this is a very fortuitous win.

And second, 30 days of books... Day 57 - I thought this book was going to be totally post-apocalyptic until I read the synopsis. Now I think it's pre-apocalypse. I think I'm a little saddened.

Okay. I'm getting tired. I have to get my sleep so that I can write my fingers to the bone tomorrow.

I've got the whole Halloween party thing going on today. I shanghaied [livejournal.com profile] jenah, [livejournal.com profile] kimbrchick and [livejournal.com profile] malkovich03 for an afternoon/evening of food, movies and fun. We watched Predators and Predator because after watching the Adrien Brody movie, we had a hankering for the original. Plus, Kim had never seen the original and, well, it's just a good movie. Now we're watching Paranormal Activity. Now, this isn't my favorite movie but it definitely has its moments. Also, I think it's scaring the pants off of the ladies. Ha! I love it when that happens.

Before the festivities, the kids carved pumpkins. Which means that I have pictures.
