Merry Christmas Eve and all that stuff.

The kids are frantically getting ready to go to bed (soon!) and we've done all those family things that happen around the holidays. Cooking. Dinner. Glass of wine.

Now I'm off to take the dogs out one more time and get the kiddo settled in.

Here's hoping the family stuff doesn't get to be too much.

I was all geared up to journal last night and then I got caught up reading some fanfic (old skool stuff, yo! From when the porn was HOT!) and all of a sudden it was after midnight I was like "Meh. I'll journal tomorrow and be all interesting and shit."

So. Here I am.

I ended up staying up until around 2 last night. What? I was revisiting some favorite stories and totally lost track of time. However, since I got up at 5:45 I didn't get a lot of quality sleeping time in. I'm not tired yet, but later might be a different story.

It's [livejournal.com profile] bangaboomerang's birthday! Happy Birthday, Des!! May your day be filled with sleep and a child who's on the mend! :)

I was singing the Scooby Doo theme song this morning and Hailey turns to me and gives me a v. serious look and says, "Auntie, your singing is great but you're very weird." Hahahahahahaha! I love kids. They say things that make me smile.

I just realized that I didn't watch a single Zombie movie while wrapping presents this year. Suddenly it just doesn't feel like Christmas at all. I always wrap to Zombie movies! A Christmas tradition has fallen by the wayside. Woe! This is what happens when I get deep into a marathon and let the rest of the world fall away. Thank you, Lost, for taking this away from me. *weeps silently* On the other hand, Hailey saw Michelle Rodriguez in an episode and informed me that she looked like the girl who says "She bit me. She was crazed." I laughed and told her that it was the same girl. Is it cool that my 6 year old niece can quote Resident Evil? Okay. I feel better. I've discovered a Zombie connection. All is right with the world.

You know, I could watch one of the REs tonight. Word!

Cole's been lounging around in a red plaid robe that he got from his step mom's family. He was carrying a cup of tea up the stairs while wearing it earlier and he looked so grown up. I asked him if he wanted the newspaper to go with that. He just gave me a look. I had to explain that he looked like a little grown up with his robe and coffee cup. Awwww.

I've been cleaning the house this morning. And I have a hair appointment in two hours. When am I going to find time to nap??? My hair should be easy-ish. I'm just having the color retouched. More red, please!

I'm done now.
Later!

The Annual Holiday Gathering has officially ended and it was fun. We watched Drag Me to Hell (quite the holiday movie, yes?) and ate a lot of good food and had a lot of talking. All in all, very satisfying.

I'm tired now. Which is to be expected since I didn't nap and I was running around trying to get things done this morning.

Perhaps I will watch the next episode of Lost. Perhaps I will watch some more Alice. I just don't know yet.

I have a confession to make. Are you ready? I saw how everybody who watched Alice on my flist was all abuzz about how great it was so I sat down to watch it. Here's where the confession comes in. At about the 1:30 mark I found myself so underwhelmed by it that I turned it off and didn't get back to it for a week. I couldn't figure out why everyone was gaga over it. Then I watched the rest of it. I liked it. A lot. I didn't even have the heart to delete it off my DVR yet. And that's saying a lot since I usually delete stuff as soon as I watch it.

So. Yeah. I liked it. I might even watch it again.

Cole and I had to give Ruby a bath earlier cause she had a funk to her that was rather ... unpleasant. I don't know what the little darling got into but she didn't smell good. Now she smells clean and shiny. Yay!

I'm up to disc 5 of season 2 of Lost. However, I won't be watching any tomorrow since I have my super awesome Annual Holiday Gathering. I didn't watch any eps today either because I was getting ready for my super awesome Annual Holiday Gathering. There was much shopping done. The headache I acquired midway though the day made the end of the shopping a drag. Good thing I was able to curl up with my dogs and pillows for a bit. Headaches suck.

I'm done now.

I went on a field trip with Cole's class to the Tech Museum today. It was fun. Especially since one of my three kiddos that I was supposed to be chaperoning wasn't there. Two kids? Not so hard. And when one is your own and the other barely speaks ... even easier.

So. My day came and went and I don't have a lot to show for it. I'm on disc 4 of Lost season 2 at this point. I really have no idea what episode, but I know it's the 4th disc.

Tomorrow is major shopping day. Not Christmas shopping, mind you, but food shopping for my Christmas party. My party's on Sunday. It's time to get this done!

Back to Lost. I'm having way too much fun watching this all over again. I had forgotten so much that it's almost like seeing them for the first time. The only thing I'm going to throw in there is that I agree with [livejournal.com profile] iron_knife that there should be a "flashback skip" button. Some of those flashbacks are ... not fun to re-watch. Kinda boring, in fact.

I'm out.

I feel horrible today ... no, let me rephrase that. I can't breathe at all. I thought I was at the tail end of my cold and today it seems to be kicking my ass with a vengeance. Damn cold. I'm seriously going to crawl back into bed in a few minutes and completely relax. I don't plan on moving for a few hours. I did plan to clean the house this morning, but that's not going to happen. No way, no how.

Hopefully I'll perk up later and can get my Christmas party food shopping done. Otherwise Saturday will be the kill screen day. Word.

I'm going back to bed.

Cole was in a class play this morning about the states and capitals and I went to it and it was so funny. Cole played the game show host, complete with cheesy voice and everything. He did such a good job.

And that is all I have planned for today! Awesome. I've freed up my day to watch copious amounts of Lost season 2 episodes and read a book. Oh, wait. I just remembered that I have to buy a few more things to round out my Christmas shopping. *sigh* Every time I think I'm done with that, another thing pops up that I have to get. Something for Cole's school, something for his baby sister. I really should have remembered that last one, but I didn't until yesterday. Whoops.

Is it mean to dress your dog in Christmas clothes? Specifically a Santa suit. You decided ...

Holy smokes! The dogs are racing around upstairs (where I am, mind you) like speed racers and they're kinda starting to drive me crazy. *blink, blink* Plus, I have so much stuff that I feel like I need to get done immediately, right now, can't wait, yes NOW! that I don't know where to start. Seriously, I'm sitting here surfing around online because I don't want to do anything that's not fun.

As a random aside, the vampire game I play on Facebook is all crazed and I think I might have lost pages and pages of comments that I neeeeed so that I can vote for people and get refills and make friends and blah blah blah and be an awesome vampire. *sigh* My life is just so difficult sometimes.

On the shiny side of things, I managed to get the evite out last night for my party that's this coming weekend. I probably should have sent that out sooner, but I didn't. And I can't apologize for it because the fact that I'm a slacker is moderately well documented at this point. Actually I can apologize for it. Sorry, ladies. Sorry.

I plan on finishing season 1 of Lost today. No, that's not one of the uber important things that needs to get done right now, but it's all part of my plan. Part of my diabolical plan to take over the world. Or whatever.

I'm done now. My typing sucks, my laundry's almost done and my dogs are still driving me crazy. Good times, people. Good times.

Like a dumbass, I had to mention yesterday that I hadn't had a cold yet since the weather had turned. Guess what? I have a cold. Stuffy nose, snotty grossness and a sore throat that feels a bit like broken glass. Wonderful. That'll teach me. I'm not sure what it'll teach me, but I'm sure I'll get something out of all this.

To top it off, today has been declared (by Heather and myself) as "Get our Christmas shopping done" day. Awesome. I'd best stock my pockets with tissues while I'm thinking about it.

In Lost news, I'm up to episode ... actually, I have no idea. I think the last one I watched was the one with Boone and Shannon (Hearts and Minds, maybe) but I might have watched one more after that. I do love that Season Play option on the discs. It keeps track of where I am for me! LOVE!

For those that like themselves a little Supernatural fic, [livejournal.com profile] tlace has posted a lovely Sam/Cara piece over at [livejournal.com profile] just_scribbles. I had the good fortune to read the first few chapters a while back in beta and it's a very good story.

Alright. I have things to do. Which mostly involve blowing my nose. And killing vampires. :)

Holy smokes! Lost on Blu-Ray is very pretty. My favorite thing on the discs is that they have this thing called "season play" that keeps track of where I am on the episodes for me. This is awesome because I often forget what episode I'm up to, especially when I'm marathoning. So I'm up to episode 7 and I'm loving it.

I had this whole post planned this morning about how I haven't had a snotty gross cold so far this cold season. Of course I woke up this morning slightly stuffed up. Nice. It's cleared up now, I just thought it was funny.

Heather gave me a very important task today. One which I will take care of as soon as this journal is done. She told me that I must write down all the Christmas shopping we still need to get done so that we can go out tomorrow (on her day off) and polish it off. I'm on it. I'm on it.

I might even do some wrapping after this. Or not. We'll see how the dogs are. If they're in the mood to walk all over the paper, it's a no go. If they're content to stay up on the bed and be good little girls ... I can do it!

Alright. I must do my duty!

I have been having the most amazingly bizarre dreams lately. In one of them, I was kidnapped and taken to the woods and forced to dig holes so that heads could be buried. Weird, right? Yeah. Except there's more. Once I was free I found a way to lead the good guys to the place where the heads had been buried even though I was blindfolded and didn't see exactly where we were going. Seriously, it was creepy and yet amazing at the same time because it was chock full of plot. And it played out so much like a movie in my head that I can still see parts of it. i wish I could remember the one I had last night. It was as weird as that one.

Anyway. We have snow here. Up in the hills, but we get very very very little snow in Morgan Hill so this is a major event. It's pretty. Cold and pretty. We also have rain. Lots of wet on the ground and cold in the air. It definitely feels like Christmas is on the way.

Speaking of which, a have a good chunk of my Christmas shopping done. I went out with both Amber and Heather yesterday (at different times, mind you) and got a lot done. Now I just have to wrap and pick up those last few elusive presents.

Well, I was going to put a picture of my two sweet puppies up, but I don't like any of the pictures I have. Besides which, it just took me 20 minutes to transfer the damn pictures from my camera to my computer. My comp decided it didn't want to read my memory card and just ignored me when I spoke to it sternly. Very sad.

I think I'm going to go do some stuffs. Fun stuffs. Or not.

I feel like I haven't sat down at all today. Which is ridiculous. Because I did sit down. I sat down while my hair was being done. I sat down while I was at Hailey's awards ceremony (perfect attendance, something Cole has never never had). I'm sitting down now. I think.

Yeah. I had a busy day. Awards, hair, food, outside lights. Which look awesome, I might say. No nap. NOOOOOOO! Terrible. I got a few pages read on the book Cole wants me to read while my hair was processing.

Anyway. [livejournal.com profile] jenah and her son are coming over for a bit tomorrow. Which reminds me! I think I know what we're going to have for our main food dish at our Annual Holiday Gathering! I was having a hard time picking something that would appeal to everyone. But I think I've hit upon something that will be a hit. Yes, I'm being purposfully vague until I'm sure it's what I want to serve.

I'm tired. I'm making a lot of spelling errors. That means it's time to go.

I went shopping today with the idea that I'd get the bulk of my Christmas shopping done and out of the way. I bought ONE present. That was not what I had in mind. I think I'm going to aim for having it finished early next week. On the other hand, it's supposed to rain, rain, rain next week. Maybe I'll give myself until the beginning of the following week.

I don't want to overdo it, you know.

I'm tired. I have a movie review to put up at [livejournal.com profile] blabapalooza. Oh, and I got our monthly wrap-up done over there yesterday. Yay, me! I've kinda lost the train of thought that was chugging along here, but I think I meant to mention that the review isn't going to be done tonight. Tomorrow. At the earliest. I make no promises.

Time to cart the kiddo off to his room and shuffle the dogs around.
Night!

I was going to get a bunch of stuff done today. You know, like ... putting up the outside Christmas lights and maybe doing some shopping. Then I looked outside. It's cold and foggy and I'm not sure I want to do anything that involves leaving the house. Even to step out onto the patio. For the love of Pete, it's 10 now and the fog's still so thick that I can't see across the street. This might be a good day for a The Fog double header. Original first, naturally.

On the list of things that are kinda dumb, I was watching Terminator Salvation last night and I was all jazzed up about the "Director's Cut" (or whatever it's called) and when I got to the end of the movie and put in the second disc to watch the Special Features (thinking the whole time that I didn't remember any extra scenes) I realized that I had put the Theatrical Version in and the Director's Cut was on the second disc. *face palm* I'm laughing at myself because I assumed that the second disc was all the special, extra stuff, not that it was the actual movie. The lesson I learned from this? Read the discs before you put them in the player.

My hands are freezing. It's getting hard to type. Perhaps I'll go curl up on the bed with my blankets and my dogs and watch those fog-themed movies.

Lo! I was decorating outside today. There's a whole silver and red candy cane theme going on in the front of my house. It's kinda cool. I haven't managed to get the lights up yet but hopefully that will get done tomorrow. It all depends on whether or not I want to do some shopping or some decorating.

I did not wrap presents today.

I did get the book I won through that Goodreads contest in the mail. It looks pretty cool and I'm excited to start reading it. Once I finish decorating the house, that is.

I finally got my camera working and I've been taking a ridiculous amount of pictures of my girls. And by "got my camera working" I mean that I put new batteries in. *blink, blink* I'm crazy good like that. Oh, and my dogs are super cute but I need to take a good picture of them before I can post it. The lack is in my picture taking skills, not the girls.

I'm tired.

I watched Terminator Salvation on Blu-ray earlier. Lovely. For the record, I liked the movie. I got the feeling that a lot of people were disappointed with it, but it hit all my movie watching kinks. Hot robot guy? check. Gravelly voiced hero? check. Post-apocalyptic future? check. That kid who played Chekov? check. Okay, that last one wasn't actually a kink, just something I found amusing.

I'm going to bed. My brain is sleepy and it's telling me to call it a night.

I was almost not going to post tonight because it's getting late (didn't I once have a plan to post in the morning just so this wouldn't happen?) and I don't have much to say ... but I suddenly remembered something so incredibly stupid that I had to share it.

When we got our Christmas tree home on Saturday and finally got it standing in a nominally upright position, Heather noticed that one of the branches was broken in a fairly prominent place on the front of the tree. My mom suggested cutting it off and just dealing with the (slight) empty spot. Heather said no to that. She went out and got our freaking Gorilla Glue (amazing stuff, if you've never heard of it. I could probably glue the space shuttle to the Empire State Building with no problem) and set out to GLUE OUR CHRISTMAS TREE BACK TOGETHER! Now, it was only one branch that was broken, so when she ultimately failed at her (insane) endeavor it didn't destroy the overall lines of the tree. I put a heavy ornament on the branch above the broken one and the weight pulled the upper branch down enough to hide our little bare spot.

The point of all this is that my sister tried to glue our Christmas tree together. AWESOME!

I think I might wrap some presents tomorrow. It'll be December, it's allowed.

And now I'm off to battle Vampires and ... stuff.

My mom made a full on Thanksgiving dinner today. We had our actual Thanksgiving with family in Gilroy and it was great but my mom has a deep seated need to make her own turkey. So my sisters, Hailey, grandma, and Amb's mother- and brother-in-law joined us for dinner with the works. It was so good. I totally made the gravy. It was deeply amazing. You would have wept. Seriously.

In a nutshell, I'm exhausted now. I stayed up way too late last night and got up far too early. I was "helping" my mom get stuff ready this morning. I guess I was just getting in the way because I was given garbage duty a couple of times. Underfoot much? Anyway. I didn't really nap and we all know that I need my nap. Plus, I was on Bailey desensitization duty since she goes crazy with the barking whenever Amber's mother-in-law comes over. It's weird. She does that very rarely, but she just barks and barks and barks when she's here. So I had to do the meet and greet between her and Bailey. Again. Let Bailey feel safe and do some sniffing. Then everything's fine and dandy. With turkey.

In other news, tomorrow's the last day of November and, hence, the last day of NaNoWriMo and I think I clocked in at roughly 1000 words. That would make me 49,000 short. Oops. I do this every year. Part of it is that November is one of the worst months for me to completely clear my calendar. I have the kids out of school nearly more than they're in it. I have family stuff. I used to have work. Thank goodness that's not a concern this year. So, yeah. I didn't write 50,000 words. Maybe I can do it in December. Maybe.

However, I did manage to finally send out emails for the Holiday Gathering. I think we have our date set. Now I just need to send out the evites and decide what we're eating so I can hand out food assignments. We're kinda doing a potluck this year. Kinda. Okay. Fine. It's exactly like a potluck. Whatever! I think having a theme for the movies we're going to watch would be fun but I haven't come up with any great themes yet. Nothing tops the year we watched the entire Lord of the Rings extended cut trilogy. That was a ridiculous amount of movie watching. 12 hours or something insane like that. 12 hours. Yikes.

There you have it. The kids are back to a couple of weeks of a normal school schedule before being out for two weeks. The dogs are more or less on a schedule. Well, Bailey is. Ruby just pees when ever she feels the urge. Usually in the middle of my floor. Woe. Sometimes she goes into the bathroom and pees in there. Sadly, it's not on the toilet, just on the floor. Or maybe I don't mean "sadly". I guess if she did use the toilet it would be weird.

I have no idea what I'm talking about anymore.
I'm done.

Obviously Cole had a fun sleep over last night and stayed up way too late because he's already asleep and has been for at least half an hour. I'd say closer to 45 minutes. Which means that I get to watch the most ridiculously bad movie(s) imaginable because the kiddo won't be hogging the TV. Awe.some.

I will admit that we had a fairly busy day on top of his friend spending the night. We got our tree this morning and spent until about noon decorating it. That means that we are fully decorated. No, wait. We haven't put up any outside stuff. That might be tomorrow. Another friend of Cole's came over in the afternoon and the three of them (plus Hailey) had a rip-roaring good time playing video games. It was so loud that I had to forgo my nap.

So, yeah. Busy day. Busy, but remarkably mellow. I like that.

My feet are cold right now. Maybe that's a sign that I should shut my window. *blink, blink* Or maybe I should extract one of my blankets from under the dogs and wrap myself up. Hmm. It might be easier to just shut the window.

I'm going to go dig an old movie out and watch it. Something that I haven't seen in many a moon. I have no idea what at this point, but something mindless and fun.

Later!

Geez, this week has flown by. I haven't done much with it, but it's almost gone. Interesting.

Not much going on here. [livejournal.com profile] jenah and her son came over for a visit today. Jenn and I watched Star Trek in gorgeous, gorgeous Blu-Ray. That's something that just needs to be experienced to be believed. It's very, very pretty. We also watched half of Watchmen but we had to stop midway because it was just too much. Too long, not too much of a movie. Or plot. Or whatever I'm trying to say. We'll pick it up next time they visit.

I hope all my American friends had a nice holiday and a nice weekend and that you're all gearing up toward that crazy Christmas stuff. *sigh* We've already decorated. We'll get the tree tomorrow and get that up and running and then it's just finishing shopping and wrapping gifts and baking. I'm going to be doing a lot of baking this year. I can feel it.

I'm done now. My brain is sleepy.

The other day Cole was watching the edited version of Aliens on TBS or TNT or one of those channels. He was asking me all sorts of questions about it and seeing as it was the first movie I bought on DVD and that I can quote it like it's nobody's business ... well, we put it in tonight. The unedited version. Gods, I love that movie. The carnage, the destruction, the acid blood! Be still my beating heart! Ripley when she's torching the nest! I might swoon! "They mostly come at night. Mostly." LOVE!

So, yeah. Aliens is love. It always has been and it always shall be.

Bailey just burrowed under my pillows. It's a little funny to watch. One minute she's there and the next she's buried. Sometimes she'll hear something and stick her head out to investigate. Hi-larious!

I still have to send out emails for the Annual Holiday Gathering. I'm terrible. I have to get it done. I have to. Tomorrow. I'll write myself a note.

I'm done now.
