Fade to black ...
I've done something that makes me very, very happy. Are you ready for this? Okay!

Yep! I totally signed up for NaNoWriMo this year. I did it a couple of years ago ... let me rephrase that. I signed up for it a couple of years ago and didn't write a single thing the entire month. Not a thing. It was kinda funny, in a sad, pathetic sort of way. However, this year is going to be different. I'm going to WRITE! I have no idea on what, but I'm going to WRITE! An entire month of hardcore writing. If I wrote some porn there'd be a double entendre there. Word!
I'm pretty excited about it. Now I just have to continue my daily non-journal writing to get myself to that place in my head where everything spills out of my like so much literary vomit. Nice mental picture that brings to mind. I also still want to write a bunch of horror movie reviews for
blabapalooza. Because it's October!
Now here's the funny part ... my writing resolve is already going to be tested. I signed up to go with Hailey on her class field trip to an apple farm. Tomorrow. My prime writing time is while the kids are at school. It's quiet. Nobody's asking me to get them things and do things with them. It turns out that this is also my prime napping time. Weird how that works. Sometimes it's a real Battle Royale between the need to nap and the need to write.
It turns out that I often have to remind myself that just because I'm trying to establish a schedule for myself regarding writing, it doesn't mean I always have to stick to it. Just because I usually only write in the morning doesn't mean that I can't write in the evening if the muse gets all fired up. That may seem like a funny thing to say, but I also had to teach myself that I didn't always need to be doing something after I quit my job. It's okay to have some serious downtime. It's okay to read two books in one day and forget to eat lunch. It's okay to take a nap at 9 in the morning. I try not to do that last one too often. It seems to decadent.
I think it's a sad comment on our society when we don't know how to slow down. Or am I the only one this happens to? Is everyone else perfectly well adjusted? Maybe I don't want to know the answer to those questions.
Okay. I wrote a lot more than I was originally planning on. That's a good thing.
Later.
