Don't look the other way ...

Today sort of got away from me. I got a fair amount of writing done, which is always nice, but I really don't think I did anything else. I did make a random Target run this morning because I had to get gas and I missed the turn and the only place you can turn around after missing the turn is in the Target parking lot and I figured, "Hey! I have to return this stupid floor cleaner that doesn't spray, why not get it out of the way now?" So I did. I also managed to get gas despite my complete ineptitude in driving.

Speaking of which, the last time I got gas was a month ago. Now, I know I don't drive a lot, but that's ridiculous.

Okay. Writing.

Nearly 3K words today, which is awesome. The thing I've noticed is that when I use Write or Die, I consistently go over my word goal by 200-300 words in the time I allot myself. This isn't so much about writing as many words as possible as writing consistently for me.

So. Today's writing featured the night of the full moon, one stalled shift into wolf form and a sexy shower that mostly involved washing. I also finally got to bring one of the characters that's been hinted at since the first few chapters into the fold and give her a voice.

Oh, I also broke down and bought my first Kindle book in over a week. See? I do have self control. Sort of.
Book #168 - Stranger in My Bed by Julia Keaton - I'm going to be honest here and admit that I picked up this book for the cover. Well, not entirely for the cover, but it did help sway me into buying it. Now, if I didn't own a Kindle I don't think I could have comfortably held this book in public while reading it. Could you?

This cover reminds me of those really overwrought covers from romance novels in the 80's and 90's. The ones where the heroine is losing a minimum of one article of clothing and the man looks like he wants to ravish her on the spot.

Anyway. Part of what drew me into buying another historical when my heart so obviously lies with shapeshifters and aliens and badass badasses in space was the excerpt I read. It was maybe half of the first chapter and I seriously sat there afterward and I was like, "Hmm, that was good. I want to read more." So I did. Basically, resigned spinster Melantha works through her sexual frustration by writing down all her fantasies in a hidden diary. When the diary is stolen by a man searching for documents to have his ancestral home returned to him and who is bent on revenge against her brother, Melantha is forced into becoming his (initially) unwilling slave in the bedroom. The twist? The man visits her bedroom in the dark of night and Mel has no idea which of her brother's guests he might be. The author weaves interest in Mel from two of the men visiting throughout the story and there were a couple of times when I wondered if my guess as to who her midnight lover could actually be was off base. I liked the build up and the tension and I really liked that her family stepped in and supported her when she thinks everything is over. I'd have to say that I'd definitely read another book by this author.

And finally, I mentioned this over on Twitter, but I have a TON of Dreamwidth code invites if anyone has been looking for one. Seriously, I have, like, 15 or something ridiculous. So, it you want one, give me a shout. I'd be happy to share.

I do believe I'm done now.
Later.
