Day 7 past the due date. Seriously, little baby? Seriously? I can only imagine that my sis is saying something similar. Now, if I were the one about to give birth and the kid decided to make me wait an extra week, I'd retaliate by giving said child a truly horrendous name. Like, Menoceus. Or Horatio. Or Tabasco Sauce. Indeed, I would.
Anyway. I wasn't feeling too great this morning. I got up at 5:30, fed myself and the kids, showered, took the kids to school, came home and tooled around on the computer for a bit, got back into bed at 9:30 and stayed there until 12:30. Ahh, what a life. Seriously, though, I had one of those headaches that nothing can cut through. It was tenacious. And painful. The sleeping helped. Mostly.
I ended up finishing up that book I was reading yesterday. It was ... well, let me just quote you from a Goodreads review that pretty much made me pee my pants:
Ahahahahahaha! I seriously laughed so hard after reading that. It made my day. Read the entire review here (currently the second review on the page).
As for my review (which is, sadly, not nearly as awesome as that one) ...
Book #77 - Dark Prince (Carpathians #1) by Christine Feehan - Oh, boy. Let me start by saying that I knew what I was getting into with this series, I've read all but the last two or three and figured that I'd revisit some of the earlier books before buckling down with those unread ones. The problem I'm having here is that the entire book is so overwrought. Every single moment is life or death. Every breath the two leads take is a burden of desire and longing and physical pain if they can't OMG! be together. I'm not saying that's always a bad thing but it gets old after a while. Let them have a few moments of normalcy before they descend into everlasting angst again. Please. That said, the series does get better as far as I remember. Maybe I've let time gentle the memories and I'll be sadly disappointed when I get around to reading them. I'm kinda hoping not, but we'll see.
Anyway. Mikhail Dubrinsky is the Prince of the Carpathian people (kinda like vampire hunters with cool supernatural powers) whose bleak existence has become unbearable. When he chances upon psychic human Raven Whitney one night he begins to believe that his life is worth living again. There are some bad guys who want to do bad things. There are a lot of misconceptions that fly back and forth between the two of them. There's a lot of sex that happens. Quickly. My biggest peeve is that Raven is not a ... I don't even know how to explain it. She's described as being incredibly strong willed and yet the moment Mikhail tells her to do something she practically drops everything to do it immediately. To top it off, while Mikhail isn't unlikable there are plenty of other characters that I like far better. As the Prince of a dying race he's autocratic and demanding.
Overall, I'd have to say that it's a decent start to the series, but it's nowhere near the pinnacle of awesomeness that I remember. However, if you've ever longed to read about "velvet wrapped steel" and "creamy heat" ... well, look no further. *blink, blink*
By the by, I watched Avatar on Blu-Ray earlier. It was goooood. Have I mentioned that Sam Worthington is totally my movie boyfriend? True story. I even liked him when he was all mangled in Terminator Salvation. Mmmm.
I think I've gone on enough. Cole's giving me the evil eye because I'm "typing too loud". Nice. Hey, here's a thought! Maybe if you went to bed in your own room every night and not MINE it wouldn't bother you! Yes, he falls asleep in my room and I have to relocate him to his room. Every night.
I love my kid. Really.
Later.

Several years back, I was working for one of the largest banks in the country. My office was about a block away from the Sears Tower in downtown Chicago, right in the middle of the financial district. One morning, I arrived at work to find two preventative maintenance men in the elevator bank. One of them was a Blue Collar God. Not even kidding. He stood out beautifully amidst all the other pasty cube-dwellers with their spare tires and beady little banker eyes. He was rough around the edges in the good way. Tattooed. Muscular. Alpha sexy. And you knew, just knew, from looking at him that he was the kind of guy who would do you from behind with no foreplay. Aaaand you’d like it.
And that’s basically how I felt about this book.
