Dudes. I did a whole lot of nothing today. Cole's friends were here until around noon so I holed up in my room reading. Yes. Reading.
Book #43 - A Kiss of Shadows (Meredith Gentry #1) by Laurell K. Hamilton - I decided to pick up this series as a re-read on a whim. I don't remember the last time I read it and there are now two additional books in the series that I haven't read at all, so it seemed like a win-win situation. The first thing you need to know is that one of the reasons I originally decided to give this series a chance (back in 2007 or so) was that all the reviews I read on it talked about the copious amounts of sex that Merry and her men had. Those reviews were entirely true. Let's just say that if you're at all prudish or Victorian about sex you should probably skip this series in it's entirety. There's a lot of sex. From the beginning of the book, to the middle, straight on through to the end. Lots. Lots and lots of sex. Which is probably why I like this series so damn much. There also happens to be some story in the midst of all the dirty, hot sex ... Merry Gentry is a Princess in the Unseelie Court of Faerie who's been hiding and passing herself off as a lesser Fey for the past three years. Working as a Supernatural PI in Los Angeles, her cover is blown on a case and she's summoned back to her Aunt's court for an interesting proposition - if she can bear a child before her cousin does she will become the queen of the Unseelie Court and all those under it. The catch? Her cousin is out for her blood and the penalty for losing is death.

Book #44 - A Caress of Twilight (Meredith Gentry #2) by Laurell K. Hamilton - When a powerful magic is unleashed into the world, Merry and her bodyguards have to find a way to defeat it without destroying themselves in the process. Working tirelessly to bear the next Sidhe child and earn the throne of the Unseelie Court, Merry is forced (forced!) to have creative sex with her immortal lovers. Lots and lots of creative sex. In many ways. I liked that the overall story arc isn't just about Merry sexing up all of her men, although that's good too. She's coming into her own powers while learning to deal with the wilder, ancient magic that is the very essence of Faerie. A satisfying read that doesn't tax your brain too, too much.
These aren't short books by any means (clocking in at 450+ and 350 pages), but I whipped through them. And I'm halfway through the 3rd. I thought I was going to slow down after March. Apparently not. Now I'm tempted to pick up the 7th and 8th in the series because it looks like I'm going to be getting to them sooner rather than later.
Nothing beats a good re-read.
