I really wasn't going to write about this, but the more I think about it the more it bugs me. So ... I'm writing. WARNING: I'm ranting about a religious experience that I was forced to have. And by "religious experience" I don't mean anything dirty.

So, I went to a bridal shower on Sunday for one of our family friends. We've known the family since before Jamie (the one getting married) was born and Amb is the maid of honor in her wedding. It was a luncheon. Outside. Very nice. Until te hostess stood up and said, "As soon as everyone gets their food, I'm going to say a prayer." Umm ... Okay. Except, I don't believe in your god. No, it's not all about me, but I feel that I respect other's beliefs by not forcing mine on them. By that same token, I expect others to so the same. So, she prayed. H and I looked at each other in disbelief. We ate.

Cut to ... Jamie has finished opening all the gifts. The hostess stands up again and says, "We're all going to take a few minutes now to pray for Jamie. If anybody wishes to say something, please do so." We had to listen to 15 minutes of prayer. This is after the hostess went on and on about the daily prayer book she was giving Jamie as a gift and how if Jamie started each day by letting the Lord into her life her marriage and life would be so much better.

I have a problem with this. People have to make their own decisions about what the believe in. It can't be forced on them. It took me a long time to find something that worked for me. Something that made sense. To have to sit through what essentially felt like a church sermon was something that I could have done without.

There's more, but I have to work.
